Why isn't there a Zero Rating? - Review by Art Leerskov submitted on June 28, 2002
Customer's web site: www.leerskov.com
Length of time hosted by this company: 1 year - 3 years
Date when last hosted by this company (as of June 28, 2002): 1 year - 3 years ago

I have had two low-use sites on addr.com for the last couple of years.
Even with my minimal needs, their servers go down WAY too often and during the last year you can forget any sort of human contact -- even in billing and sales.
I have called and called and called. You get busy signals, you get dead air and you get automatically and unceremoniously disconnect you but you don't get customer service.
I have been trying to make a small change in the service and pay for the account since late 2001. Emails don't work either. One sent on June 7 was just answered today (June 28, 2002) as they blocked the site. Numerous emails since June 7 have not been answered at all.
Today I called in on two lines waiting some 40 minutes on hold before I got a person.
I have had it with these guys. Must I say, I'm moving my sites elsewhere ASAP.

This host has had my email down for the 3rd time this month. Call and you always get a recording which states that they are having a "higher than normal call volume" and to email them. Emailing brings slow response assumin that it is not your email that is down.

I would not use this company again and am looking for a better one as we speak.

My site goes down almost every single month. It was down for 4 hours the other day; now I can't get into FTP. I emailed them 3 days ago about the downtime and have gotten no response. They've only responded to 2 of my many emails. I don't believe they really exist anymore. I'm ditching ADDR as soon as my stupid contract is up. Bastards!

These people take your money but then fail to give any service -- No one answers the phone. Any problem will last for weeks as you can not get help. Their system is down often and they do not give refunds or credit. Stay away from this aggrevation.

Words cannot begin to describe this experience... - Review by Jason Badger submitted on June 13, 2002

I recently discovered that there is no longer any way to contact a live person at ADDR via phone. Their phone menu directs you to email your inquiries to them. This alone is exasperating beyond belief. I mean, they have my money, and now I can't contact them to cancel, let alone get support.

There's no way I would ever do business with a company that I can't contact in person, so I initiated the process of closing my accounts. That's when I learned that they also don't respond to our emails.

I thought I had a minor victory when I threatened legal action and they directed me to a "close account" url, but they still have not contacted me in response to my submission. So now I'm still trying to actually get my unused balance refunded to my credit card.

If anybody wants the url it's:

http://www.addr.com/close_account.htm

If anyone has any advice or suggestions or has successfully gotten through to cancel and can share your strategy, please contact me at jbadgers@yahoo.com.

Final words: Whatever you do, do not give this company any money.

Today the website came up with a forbidden 403 error for about 6 hours, also no access by ftp was available, when it came back on line the data in the directories was at least 4 months old, programs missing from the cgi-bin.
ADDR said they where not responsible. If this is the case something is terribly wrong at ADDR. All this follows 2 weeks downtime in May without explanation and a previous deterioration in service since last October.
It does not matter how cheap they are, if you getting bad service they are to expensive. Steer well clear till they are organised again.

I've been hosting with addr.com since october 2001 and all went well until january 2002, when they had their first outages. They said it was maintenance.
But then may 2002 came and my site scored an availability of only 93,3%! Since we offer free online gaming (with Settlers of Catan, Lines, Stratego coming up), our members were moaning and groaning all over us.
We are now looking to leave as soon as possible, even if this means we loose our prepaid dollars.

Tip: never ever prepay a year - these few bucks saved tie you up and make you loose money when your host turns out to be a scam ... or another addr.com.

P.S. When they are up, it's really running fast and smooth. They're just down too frequently.

My site has been down for 11 days and I have no idea why.  My current bank statement shows they have been paid for this month.

I write an email each day to their support staff and have not received a single response.  Phone calls (long distance) are ineffective.  I wait about a half hour in their "support queue" each day to no avail.  I have even written them by letter.

My only guess is that they were hacked again (They were hacked in April and didn’t tell their customers.) and are trying to deal with it.  Even so, this is no excuse for the lack of response.  I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau [http://www.bbb.org] and urge others who are experiencing trouble with Addr.com to do the same.  This kind of bad business should not be tolerated!

I was very satisfied with addr - low cost hosting with servlet/jsp support and mysql db.  Then I recommended them to a client.  We needed an answer to a simple question and COULD NOT get a response.  I called them probably 10 times waiting up to an hour (not toll-free). We both tried emailing, I faxed - NOTHING!! After several weeks I got a response to an email.  So if you need ANY support at all I would go somewhere else.

I have been with addr for over a year now, the my site has mostly been available, but my email is usually down at least once every 4-5 weeks.  Tech support is at a snail's pace (and lately I've had to call tech support on the phone with no help whatsoever).  I am embarassed that I've recommended them to my friends, and mortified that I've recommended them to my clients.
Stay away, there are better web hosting options out there.
I'm currently hunting for a new provider.

I was using this hosting company pretty successfully.  Then all of the sudden my MySQL database wouldn't work anymore.  I emailed tech support.  No response after 5 days! I called their tech support phone # 3 times and was on hold over 30 min each time before giving up.  I finally called the sales line and was again on hold over 15 minutes before someone answered and I was finally able to talk to a human being about my problem.  They said, "Oh yeah we made a change to correct a problem and figured it might screw some customers up, but we weren't sure who all was using MySQL databases so we knew they'd call when they had problems".  That's pretty sucky customer service if you ask me! If you do anything beyond basic plain-vanilla web pages DO NOT use these guys because when you need to talk to them, it'll be impossible!

I've been with addr.com since 1999.  However, for the last year, there have been points in time when my site has been down.  I emailed the tech support about it and their answer was to change my admin. password, but they didn't tell me what it is.  They have not gotten back to me after several emails over the last week.  They started out great, but they are really going downhill and I plan to move as soon as my plan is up.

The prices are good, but once you've run into a problem, good luck.  I've been waiting for 5 days now to hear back from them regarding my down website.  Just last week, when I called their tech support about down email, after 2:30 wait, someone picked up the phone and said the following: "It's your damn fault you picked ADDR... too bad you're having problems, but who cares, go figure it out yourself" then hung up without allowing me to say even 'hello'.  I am thinking of getting some other angry customers and taking them to court.

You are not going to get a perfect web hosting service with ultimate speed and support for $9 to $10 a month.  You get what you pay for.  But for the money, they are really good.  My site is rarely down.  I was having problems with slow FTP transfers and they acknowledged the problem, and worked to resolve it.  FTP transfer is fairly fast now.

Before trying Addr.com, I had HostPro.com as my web host.  However, when they went out of business, I wasn't too thrilled with the idea of going with Interland (another review), so I went to Addr.com (hey, it looked alright).  NOTHING worked! All the links in my site wouldn't work, my email wouldn't work, none of my graphics showed up, even PAGE COLORS were changed!!! I tried talking with customer support to no avail (they were of no help, it Should work???).  After a Month, I gave up and went back to Interland.  Speed was horrible too, there were several times the page just timed out instead of waiting for it to load.

I have 4 sites there now and would love to move them ASAP. Humans never answer the phones. The phone system hangs up on customers after saying "Sorry you are having trouble. Goodbye." Sometimes they respond to email requesting support and sometimes they never do. Lots of problems with the billing department, too.  The MIVA shopping cart they offer has never worked and they do not offer any support for it. Their server constantly times out before you can possibly upload or update your database and they cannot fix it.

They have overbilled my credit card.  I have made over 80 attempts to contact them via telephone, e-mail, fax, and snail mail, and they never answered their phones or returned e-mails.  My page is only up about 80% of the time.  I'd cancel my service if they would let me, but since they won't return my messages, I'm going to just have to close my credit card account to keep them from charging more to it whenever they feel like it.  Maybe they'll actually return my mesages when they stop getting paid.  Somehow, I doubt they're smart enough figure it out.

I have my own domain as well as several for which I am the webmaster hosted with Addr.com and they have proven themselves to be utterly useless...you wait on hold for over an hour and still have no tech support and that's only when the system doesn't just bump you off.  Do yourself a favor and go with a company that will at least talk to you!

I have been with Addr.com for almost a year. While their service is fine when it works (which is most of the time), when it doesn't work, getting support is a nightmare. When I called their support phone, I was placed into their phone system, then hung up on after waiting ten minutes! As for their email support, it took at least five days each of the four times I had a problem for them to get back to me. Once they did get back to me, they always fixed the problem. Of course, I only paid $8.95/month. As always, you get what you pay for. I will be moving on at the end of my year, in April, because I hope someday I won't be able to afford for my site to go down for an entire week!

As a web designer, I use Addr for all my clients due to their low pricing. (I use it for my company's site as well.)
Not sure what you all are fussing about, hosting isn't the most complicated thing in the world!

I signed up with addr.com to get shell access, and their machines are so slow it's worthless. The machine I'm on regularly is in the 20s and 30s. A well loaded machine should rarely go over 1. I'm leaving them as soon as my year is up.

Customer service was at least good about getting back to me and letting me know there's nothing they can do.

Whenever there were any problems, their "Excellect 24/7" support was nowhere to be found. Emails were not answered for days and their phone was almost never answered.  They claimed that my credit card info was invalid and after I tried to update it twice, they claimed I had been unresponsive to their requests.  This is not a site for anyone who needs even the smallest amount of support. Definitely a host to avoid.

Once you sign up with them you are totally on your own.  Absolutely horrendous customer service.  They have a phone number but no one ever answers.  When I used them my site went down and I couldn't get anyone to respond via e-mail or phone for more than a WEEK! This one's bad.  Stay far, far away!!!

I cancelled my account, and now 10 months later they send me a bill for the last 10 months! Plus they will NEVER answer the phone and it takes 2-3 weeks for an email reply. If they are truthfully so busy that they can not answer the phone and delay emails for weeks than they must be making a ton of money, maybe they should hire someone to answer the phones. ? VERY UPSETTING!
Also, in their email they state that they will take action with credit reporting agencies if not paid. POOR SERVICE to say the least.

This company provides 0 support.  You can call and be put on hold 24 hours a day, but don't expect to get through.  After five attempts trying to cancel I am still being billed.  Avoid at all costs.

Their email server had frequent down time and they lost many of our emails.  We could never get ahold of anyone over there either.  When we finally got to ask someone about our missing emails they basically told us to have our email hosted else where because they weren't compentent enough.
