I recently took over the web design of a site that is hosted by AveHost, and I am sorry to say that this is the worst webhost I have ever worked with.
Among other things, the customer service is awful, and their FAQ pages and online help are absolutely useless. I will be promptly moving the site to a different host.

If my potential clients wanted to see my web site Idon't know how they would find it because when Ido a search I can't find my web site. And Idoubt anyone is gonna read this letter. Ihave sent two emails telling them about my web-- hits counter and not even a response. So Idont think anyone will respond to this letter. Talked to the wife last night and it is just a matter of time until we go to someone who really cares about there clients.

For some reason their servers routinely fail to update the IP address associated with my domain name. So, very often people send me e-mail and it is rejected saying the domain does not exist. I tell them and they fix it. Then it happens again in about 3 months.

Be careful with their billing practices. They will sign you up and charge for extra services that you did not agree to.

Avehost was always helpful and/or quick to respond when I had difficulties (I'm not much of a web designer - I use Frontpage). The chat help desk was especially useful.

I have one caveat:
a shopping cart package that has been used on many other sites with many other hosting firms could not be run on my site, as Avehost refused to allow me to write to the www directory of my site. They offered to sell me their own shopping cart for use on their site. Unfortunately, I had already invested in some competing software.
As such, I was forced to move my site to another host.

Features advertised did not work.  Front page extensions had to be enabled individually, broke easily, and had to be manually tweaked at the server end, often taking several calls, over a few days.

Actually, the customer would mess-up his website's FrontPage extensions by publishing with FTP and other publishing tools then blame us--it is unfortunate, but this happens when customers using FrontPage and their extensions do not understand the use of same adequately.

This site arbitrarily, and without notice stopped all my incoming email, permanently destroying some of it (e.g. a cbuilder@topica.com newsletter about C++Builder.) The disturbance is almost two weeks old this time.  Fourteen or fifteen months ago, they did this, also. 
The previous time, I had just gotten my Ph.D.  the economy had gotten ugly, and my email stopped.  Dead.
This time, when I first called, they said "None of our other customers has had any problems." Later, after it became painfully obviously that I couldn't even send email to myself, they suggested that I use Yahoo.com for email.  That is really the kind of technical support that nobody needs.

We have recently implemented for all AveHost.com-based email servers, spam control that prevents our servers and customers from receiving spam email from well-known and industry-regarded spam email sending servers; this customer is known to me and I am aware that his beef is that we blocked email from passing through our email servers when we implemented this spam-control and email-antivirus system that I refer to herein--yes, that is correct, we did because the senders of the email he refers to are known widespread senders of spam and we have an obligation and duty to protect our email servers. Let it be known that the overwhelming majority of our clients are very pleased with the reduced spam in their inbox and our servers are better protected from the unneccessary burden of delivering spam-laden email. When we are notified that non-spam email might be blocked by our spam-blocking and email-virus blocking system, we will review the sender of the email to determine if the email address or even complete domain of the sender can be "whitelisted". We did exactly the foregoing in Dr. Spees case and determined that the sender was such and abusive spammer that it would endanger our email servers and their performance to allow it to pass through. We regret this incident but our own posted service policy, that Dr. Spees agreed to when he signed-up, states that "...Our servers may not be the source, intermediary, or destination address involved in the transmission of spam, flames, or mail bombs...". Now, anyone that goes to http://www.dnsstuff.com can lookup topica.com and see that that domain is listed in at least 3 different, major, spam lists which is the reason our email system blocked email originating from that domain, and properly so. In conclusion, you could say that Dr. Spees violated our policy by putting as a destination his email address or account that resided on our system from a known spamming service.

with Ave Host you don't get any of the pop's up like AOL or the other Internet com.All you get is good reliable web access.

In the beginning, these guys were good, and decently priced. But HOPE that you never have problems, because they will always point the finger of blame to you.  I have PROVED on many ocasions that problems I have had were on their end. Usually, they fix the problem several days to weeks later and then claim there never was a problem.  Or maybe they just waited for the problem to go away on its own! My most recent problem is in getting my email from their domain.  They say its me, but all my other emails work just fine.  I am switching.

I give Avehost a nine rating because their plan was over 79% cheaper than what I was paying for before, and has more services with it; also, they have a link on their front page that connects you immediately with a sysop on-site via chat, and their response times have been great.  The only caveat I have is that their system has been down more than I'd like- that "99.81%" rating here seems way too high, I haven't been able to get my email for hours at a time twice in the last 2 days, and had some trouble setting up my account at first to get email.  Overall I'm happy but it could be better.

Don't hesitate yourself.. stop messing and messing around about what hosting company you take to host your site(s). AveHost.com it's great, I really love it! :-)
Great support service, chat on-line, 24 hrs. my site it's always UP and running perfectly! You'll be working with professionals but you'll feel like a "good baby". :-)

Generally excellent tech support available very quickly.  Quick setup.  "Live" tech support system often available, followed by ticket support system.  I have often been pleasantly surprised at the hours they are available to assist.  During unscheduled down times, they have been on top of fixing things as fast as possible.  Sites also come with many user-controlled admin functions to do some of your own tech-support. Tremendous value of services for the price.  Cold Fusion available very reasonably, hard to find elsewhere. Only down-side is that for Front Page generated forms, if you want to use e-mail results - they state that you must use an e-mail address based on the domain name being hosted with them.  This isn't always the case with all sites I've hosted with them, but is the position they are now taking.  Other than that small "grumble" they are a great bang for the buck, and provide excellent customer service.

I would like to thank Greg for his comments and appreciate his continued business with AveHost.com. I would just like to point-out for the record that Greg's only complaint (regarding email-sending using FrontPage forms) has to with the fact that we changed the way our email servers send email, since he first signed-up, and that change was announced via email to all AveHost.com customers. We had to tighten the security regarding the sending of email and this added the requirement to use a return-email address that was "local" to the server for the sending of email via forms which included FrontPage-based forms. This was neccessary to keep malicious browsers/visitors from sending email to whomever they wanted using fact reply email addresses which would in-effect allow and open-relay for use by spammers to exist on our servers--we certainly must prevent such and have with our posted email policies.
