Like the title says, I've had good up time and I've had good luck with the minimal tech support I've needed. There are better ones out there, but this ones satisfactory!

I would say that Avid has a good record I was with them for over a year with little or no downtime!

It's a shame Avid Hosting doesn't spend as much time and energy taking care of their current customers, as they do trying to refute the complaints of ex-customers! I agree 100% with Azureash.  David from Avid Hosting is clearly lying when he states that they have wonderful support.  Seriously, they will not give you their phone number for support! They will call you back in response to an email, but are totally unreliable about when they call.  They ARE disorganized and umprofessional, and their "real-time" (ya, right) online support staff is completely untrained.  And value??? They are at least 100% more expensive than most other comparable services.  We were paying $39.99/month and getting terrible hosting; now we pay $9.95/month and the hosting is wonderful (at OLM, which I can't recommend highly enough.) Take my advice and check out OLM.com, or Verio, or anyone but Avid Hosting.  What a misnomer!

PS. Their control panel IS awful.

Avid does a creditable job of hosting. There have been some issues but they have been resolved satisfactorily without undo delay. One billing problem cropped up recently but it was corrected quickly. I have two sites with them and have no plans to change to another company.

Here’s a real review from a real business that really (unfortunately) hosted with Avidhosting for one year.  Here’s a breakdown of our experience:

Support

1. No phone support.  That’s right, NONE WHATSOEVER.  You can email a request for a callback, but if they get your voice mail they will not leave a return number.

2. Unprofessional personnel.  Many times I’ve had to wait 2 days for a scheduled callback (which is usually in a 2+ hour window) only to have them call at a completely different time, like 7 p.m when (surprise!) I’m out eating.  The message they leave contains no helpful information and I’m forced to email them a request for another callback, which takes several more days.

3. Disorganized support department.  Email support only works when the correspondence is tracked and every support person has access to prior emails on the account.  Unfortunately, there is no continuity when emailing their support staff.  Every email is treated like a new issue, which is UNBELIEVABLY frustrating when it takes a week or more for each response.

4. Slow responses.  An email from a human being can take over 3 business days.  A call back can take a week.  Since the support department is so disorganized, and issues are not tracked properly, simple problems can take weeks to fix.  For example, root owned files in our account that we needed to modify.  I sent a simple request for them to chown the files to our user name, and it took 3 WEEKS, 6 EMAILS, and 3 CALL BACKS to do it.

5. Stupid personnel.  Several times I’ve had the support staff and/or the support supervisor tell me to chmod files and directories to 666 to work around limitations caused by their server being improperly configured.  And forget about their “real-time” support - one staff member couldn’t tell me what operating system they were running.

6. Rude personnel.  The staff is almost always confrontational.  The online support person will often ignore you when you have a serious technical problem or complaint.

Reliability

Our site has been down or seriously slow (5 minutes a page, and I’m on DSL) for the past 4 days.  They are blaming a router on one of their backbone providers, and can give no time estimate for a resolution.  But wait? Doesn’t their web site say that they use several providers to avoid this very problem? Don’t they have a “99.9% uptime guarantee”? (http://www.avidhosting.com/whyavidhosting.htm) Uhh…what exactly is the guarantee for? What do I get for having my site down for 4 days? The answer: one sizeable headache and four days of NO REVENUE! Forget about any sort of refund from Avidhosting.  Oh, and just in case anyone from Avidhosting is reading this- it’s grossly unprofessional to know of pending downtime, and not email your customers to let them know.

Also, the secure server has been unreliable from the start and frequently drops packets, resulting in error messages and broken sessions for our shoppers.

Billing

Every month we have the exact same billing problem, and every month we have to spend hours getting them to fix it the EXACT SAME WAY!

Features

1. The previous review complementing the control panel must be either sarcastic or written by one of their staff members.  In reality, the control panel is sub-par.  Some feature function tolerably well, but others are either useless or don’t work.  The whole thing looks like it was created as a student project for a high school computer class.

2. Old software.  Why are they using a 2+ year old version of PHPMyAdmin, a free piece of software that takes less than 5 minutes to upgrade? Who knows?!

Summary

Avoid Avidhosting like the plague.  They are unprofessional, disorganized, and unreliable.  I have no idea what the inside of their operation looks like, but I shudder to image it.  Putting our website in their hands was the worst business mistake we’ve ever made.

Avid Hosting representative's response:

Azureash's claims are way out order, and not true. Without knowing Azureash's actual name, or the domain name, I can not look for records to see details about his claims.

But, I assure you that:
Callbacks are always done promptly, whenever the client requests it.
Email is always answered within 24 hours, with 90%+ being answered between few minutes and 3 hours.
We are not "stupid" or rude, we pride ourselves on quality customer service.
Billing problem - the only thing I can think of is Credit Card being declined, or not mailing in a payment.
Our Control Panel is state of the art, and I assure you that all features work, otherwise, why would we keep them there?

As mentioned before, I don't know who this person is, so I can't look his claims up in our email system. If you would like to provide the domain name or email address you used with AvidHosting, we'll be happy to address these issues in more depth.

The Control Panel makes it very easy to manage, and their Tech Support is amazing - very quick and responses, and very precise in their answers.  The site is always up.
