I've been with Dot5 for a year now, and agree that lately things have been a little up and down, however not tragically so, and certainly nowhere near people giving it a rating such as 1/10 or something silly like that.

I'll give them a 7/10, and for $6.99 I'm happy enough to stay.  Sure, if I want better uptime, or whatever, I can get it - but it'll cost me.  So for $7 a month I've got a pretty good host, to be honest.

Come on, you all know there's much worse out there for $7/month.  Much, much worse.  True, there may be better @$7/month, but that's like finding a needle in a haystack.

What I find particularly decent about Dot5:

1. Support.  It's good, and it's fast.  24 e-mail support, and soon 24 phone support.  Try it.  Just mail support@dot5hosting.com with some fictional query and see for yourself.

2. Bandwidth and storage.  Pretty decent for $7.

3. Personal service.  You can contact the CEO yourself if you feel like it.

4. Speed.  It's not the fastest, that's for sure, but it's decent for the price.

5. Openness - forums.dot5hosting.com - they never had to put this up, but they do, and that's pretty cool.  Come on, not every host does that.

The downsides of Dot5:

1. Occasional downtime - half an hour here, or there, usually at most.  Yes, there might be an extreme occasion here or there, but it's pretty rare.  I have three sites on three boxes, and sometimes I have had a problem with one of their servers, and I've asked to move to another one, with no problems at all.  They've even let me keep the existing stuff on the original server until Google had found the new name server.  BEAT THAT.

2. Things happen without being told, such as stats programs changing, or whatever.  They could simply keep the customers informed a little better.  But it's not a major problem - it's usually upgrades they don't tell you about.


Anyway, the reason I posted here was that we all received a message from Dot5 this week about upcoming developments, so I thought I'd post it, so you can at least all see the personal nature of going with Dot5.

REAL BAD! I lost my domain because they had not renewed it on time. They lied about it and eventually stopped answering ma emails. Someone else had backordered my domain. Nice experience, isn’t it?

The basic documentation provided by Dot5Hosting is inaccurate. User support is unresponsive. When I asked to exercise the 30 day money back offer they tried to force me to talk to a sales person to "resolve the issues." Only when I told them that they need to refund my money by a given date or I would take the matter up with my credit card company did they respond by refunding my money.

My sites are down regularly.  In May, my site was down for over a week, and I didn't even know about it until friends emailed me telling me my site wasn't working. 
Problems can take weeks to resolve, and are no sooner solved, when new issues pop up.  Whenever their servers have problems, my sites get messed up and I have to contact them.... and it usually takes weeks for problems to be resolved. 
They don't seem to know what they're doing (technically) as the sites are often configured wrong.
Also- no point in having 2 DNS, as they're hosted from the same server.  If that server goes down, so does your site.
I get randomly locked out of my FTP space (which has to be reset) and my email is down frequently.  Then they make me delete my email account and create a new one in Outlook.
The prices seem good, but this is hosting at it's worst.  We got EXCELLENT and fast customer service the first month we were with Dot5.  Then, they stopped responding, and their listed AOL IM screen name is never on.  Live chat is NEVER attended by a live person.  Don't bother calling the US phone # either.  It's never answered by a person, and messages left are NEVER resolved... you just have to email and continue to pester them until they acknowledge you.
NOT WORTH THE HASSLE! I would rather pay more for quality hosting.

I LOVE THEIR MOTTO - "WE TAKE CARE OF OUR CUSTOMERS, OR SOMEONE ELSE WILL" Darn straight! Someone else will be taking care of us as soon as our year contract runs out!

I am a reseller.  I went with Dot5Hosting becuase when I chatted with the sales person, they talked of being the best around...and seemed to have all the answers to my questions.  The price was right and my original hosting company was terrible...so went with Dot5.  The service started out GREAT....any problem they were there to help.

Last night....server went down...4th time this week.  Called...voicemail box is full.  Chatted with Tech.....got it will beup in a fe wminutes.  It is not 15 hours later and they are predicting 30 more hours of downtime on the server with not explanation or reason.

Dot5hosting used to be very service oriented, and responsive.  Now, they don't seem to care at all.  For the second time now, they've blocked my IP address using their internal firewall.

The first time the problem occurred, it took 8 days and a lot of my time to get them to remove a simple filter (that they installed!).  This time, despite repeated promises from a useless support person, and many attempts to contact them on my part, they are just ignoring the issue.

Although they are based in the UK, they seem to have a business address also in Texas, I am contacting the state authorities as well as the better business bureau to file complaints, perhaps even file a small claims suit against them.

Stay Away!!! And by no means pay for a full year, or kiss you $$$ goodbye.

I was hoping to find a good, reliable, honest web host, after problems with my previous one. However, I made the grave mistake of choosing Dot5Hosting.

To sum up the problems, the server which my site was hosted on was unreliable. It went down every other day. Services such as ASP and JSP regularly failed, as well as MySQL. Web based email was incredibly slow, and the overall speed of the server was poor.

To top it off, customer support lied about the problems they had with the servers, and their only solution to a problem was to ignore the customer, and just reboot the server.

Not reliable, not honest, not trustworthy. Stay well clear.

They don't respond when I have questions about their service... unless I threatened to switch out.  They had faulty MB usuage reports and they kept on "updating" software without telling me... making my scripts fail without notice!

My client hosted with this company for 3 months. Through all my staff's investigation, this so called "entity" that pretends to be a business that must be run by a group of kids, students, or a group of friends.

Running the service must be a part time activity or hobby and their lack of attention and exhibited lack of technical knowledge results in a waste of time and money.

Servers are down frequently. Servers are not configured properly for HTTP 1.1 and therefore, the customer web site code will not function properly nor will the programs and utilities supplied by dot5hosting. Their Apache configuration on many of their servers may have been applicable to HTTP 1.0, but not 1.1 and are not "browser cache aware".

Weeks will transpire if you actually do get a response to any e-mail.

They make written promises that they never keep.

They do not answer any telephone calls as their UK # and US # are voice mail. You will never talk to a human being.

They are NOT based in Texas and simply use a mail drop and a voice mail number. They are located in England.

We've filed a comlaint with the Texas Attorney General and are pursuing Federal inquiry.

They wanted ME to provide proof to THEM that I paid.  I did, and have heard nothing back from them.  It's now been two days.

*A while back I was implementing new features on my site, and wanted to see my bandwidth to ensure that I didn't go over.  Theres NO WAY to check your bandwidth.  Dot5 continually sent me notices saying I was going over, but provided no means for me to figure it out.  After deleting almost every media file, I mysteriously continued to accrue GIGS of traffic according to their messages.  I kept on telling them I couldn't verify my traffic and they responded with this:

*Today, they suspended my account. I have no way to access my email or ftp, and visitors to my site see the admin welcome screen.  As I type this email, I am calling the number listed on the dot5hosting.com page (713-782-7184) and it has seriously been ringing for about 15 minutes.  (it's 4:30 central time).  I have all day to let this damn phone ring, and I just might.

I am disgusted with their service, and want to provide anyone considering their service with my experiences.

Pros are *incredible* speed for uploads and downloads and cheap storage.

... about the needs of their customers. The speed is good, the prices are OK, but customer service is absolutely appalling. Even if they actually do answer the phone, they make it seem like everything is OK or will be so in a couple of minutes - in reality things are rarely so! If you want QUALITY webhosting, dot5hosting is definitely not for you. If you can afford to be (sometimes shortly, sometimes many hours) offline 3 times a week, go for it and swear yourself.

I signed up for dot5hosting in late August 2002 and was delighted.  I experienced some bad downtime in early November, but aside from this I was very pleased.  Most certainly a great price for some great servers.

Support has never been fantastic when something has gone wrong, but when signing up or asking general questions, it has been excellent.

But - in the past few days my site has been down.  It has been now over 80 hours since the server has functioned correctly.  The support has been very poor - it wouldn't take a few minutes to post updates on their forums, but these have been few and far between.

They've promised to restore everything, but the longer it takes, the longer I have to browse this excellent site looking for a better deal.

The prices do offer a good deal, but if you are after reliability, I don't think this is a good choice.  They have been brilliant for the past six months, but recent events have really spoiled my viewpoint.

You get what you pay for - cheap host, acceptable bandwidth and uptime.  Tech support not always great and sometimes slow to respond.  My impression is too many customers and websites, and too few techs.

Be careful with this host. Do NOT pay annually, unlike other hosts, they refuse to refund the unused portion.

I would stay far away from Dot5Hosting for this reason alone.

Also, they don't offer any useful spam filtering tools like hosts that use the CPanel admin tools.

Sites are always down, connection is slow, support can't help with more complex questions and so on. Servers are junk (Celeron 1.3, 512 ram), very slow processing...

I had a number of large problems in starting out my web site and 5 of my 7 emails (you can't every talk to a real person) went unresponded to.  After weeks, I finally had to call 4 times just to cancel.

After I signed up for their service, I had to wait almost a week, for my domain to be live; it only took 2 days with my existing host. Emails took an extraordinary long time to be delivered to my inbox and uptime was questionable.

When I finally decided to cancel my account (2 weeks after signing up) I realised that the 30 Day money back guarantee is the worst BS i've seen. I've sent repeated emails and have yet to receive a single dime.
You essentially pay for what you get. There are trade offs in everying!

I might add that the hosting speed is suprisingly good!

I would recommend that if you choose to go with DOT5, go on a monthly plan.

This hosting provider is run by a very unethical group of people.
Their servers are constantly down and they do not provide information to their customers until well after the issue is resolved, and then the problem usually comes right back.

They edit, alter and fabricate posts in their forums, and ban those who do not submit to mode of thinking.

Avoid at all costs!!!!

Initially the service was very good - steady and always up.  Recently however is has gotten subtantially worse.  Mail goes down very frequently lately.  Suppport with the exception of automated messages is almost non existant. "LIVE HELP" is almost never online and the AOL IM that they used to use is never online anymore.....

I signed up and paid an extra $99 for a SSL certificate along with $200 for 1 year of service. I waited and waited but they NEVER installed my certificate, I filed 5 trouble tickets all of which gave me the run around and one even lied telling me they could not create the ssl until I transferred my domain which is totally untrue. Finally after over 2 weeks I had enough and told them to just refund my money for the ssl and I would still try the hosting services, I can get my own SSL. They IGNORED my request and never responded to the trouble ticket, after 3 days of their tactics I signed up with another company and told dot5 to cancel my account and refund my money since I was still in the 30 day refund period, they again IGNORED my request. I had to mass mail them to even get a response which told me to wait until Wednesday(almost a week) when their refund person would be in. Wendsday came and went and there was no refund. They are clearly delaying me until I am out of the 30 day period so they can claim I did not reques any refund and keep my money, there is no other reason for them to keep delaying. Also my websites were down for 2 days and they NEVER bothered to respond to the trouble ticket to fix their server problem, when they did respond all they could say was 'what websites?' they clearly did not read the trouble tickets that were STILL OPEN. I am now going to file a fraud claim with my credit card company and the Texas Atty General about their dishonest tactics.

Dot5 has been hosting my website now for about 3 months and they are excellent! I have not experienced any down time, during this time.  My site loads very quickly and smoothly. 
The annual rate is the most economical and for the low price, I get quality service.

During one sixteen day period, my site went down daily. One day alone, my site was down for a over 17 hours. I repeatedly attempted to contact support via email and telephone, but I recieved no reply as to what was causing the problem.

This host has no idea how to run their equipment, maintain users or provide reliable service.
They have substantial downtime, loss of database information, and very slow connections. Once they fix one problem on a server another comes up on another serv er, then problems come back to the original server. They are sometimes down hours at a time without any explanation. This isn't once every month, we're talking about a couple times a week. Their server stats are inaccurate and provide false information (I was down for 4 hours once and the server stats showed there were no problems).
I strongly suggest if you need a reliable host that you look elsewhere. Their forums are consistently filled with complaints about downtime. I give them a -10 out of 10!

I thought 30Gigs of transfer per month would be enough.  My bad... I thought wrong.  I monitored and immediately caught that I had went over by a little, so I pulled the website.  To my shock, bandwidth continued to be recorded, edging me more and more past the quota.  According to the "live help" person, they stated it was the 404 page on the server that continued to make the bandwidth rack-up.  Next strategy was to point my domain's nameserver elsewhere.  You guessed it... didn't work! Bandwidth use continued to spike -- based on what? I have no clue.  The server is unused... the domain has moved... yet I am going to pay a nice hefty overage bill.  And this was all going on while I was waiting for the account to be cancelled.  Which brings me to point number two: Why the heck is it taking so long to cancel the account? I'm trying to do this within the 30-day money-back guarantee window but they are taking FOREVER.

I cannot recommend Dot5.  Sure, there are some positive reviews here.  But I simply cannot get past the bandwidth issue and the slow response to account cancellation.  There is something horribly wrong here and I am not pleased.

dot5hosting has always been up.  The problem is that there are always problems with the servers.  Sometimes, the mysql dies.  Other times, certain pages are inaccessible.  And their support is slow.  My site was disabled for a few days everytime.  The only reason they got a 3 rating is because if you host static pages, they are always up.  I am pretty frustrated with this host already and may leave soon.  They are really cheap and I guess you get what you pay for.

The service from dot5hosting was pretty good.  The servers were up reliably, I never had a problem with email.  On Monday of this week the email server went down without prior notice.  I emailed support, well i emailed john@dot5hosting.com who has been my contact, and received a response indicating they were having a trouble with spam being sent using their smtp server so they had to take our server down.  I worked in network administration for a few years so I know that downtime is just a part of networking.  It's Friday now and my stmp server still isn't up and that email on Monday was the last correspendence I received from anyone at dot5hosting.  I've sent them numerous emails still with absolutely no response.  I signed up with another web hosting company on Monday and sent an email to domains@dot5hosting.com to have them change my nameservers to my new company because I bout my domain from dot5hosting, no response.  I emailed domains@dot5hosting.com again asking for verification that the change had been made since it was over 12 hours since my first email which is the time span they say they make dns changes in.  I finally sent them an email informing them that if I did not receive some response from them and get a full refund that I would file complaints with the BBB and consumer affairs and I still received no response.  So I've my email has been down for the last week and I've been forced to use yahoo mail.  Oh yeah, I'm not able to receive mail either.  To sum it up, I can't beleive the horrible service I've received.  If you're looking for web hosting go anywhere but dot5hosting.  There is absolutely no excuse for this.

This host is very cheap and it has fairly good customer service.  People get back to me within 1 and 24 hours. However, I've only been with this host for a few days and my mysql server is already down and its' been down for at least an hour.  I hope this is just a fluke and not of things to come.

I was very surprised to find such poor customer service after reading the great reviews on DOT5. It seems to take at least 24 hours to get a response and from the response that I received it was apparent that they did not even bother to read my problem description. I have only been with Dot5 for a few days. I have asked to cancel my service and receive a refund. I hope they honour their guarantee.

This service, allthough very fast and has good up time, has mediocre tech support.  The MAIN problem I had was that even though they clearly offer on their site (dot 1 account) to host 2 (thats two) domains, they resort to what in my opinion is trickery.  The second domain is actually a sub-domain placed on your primary and they simply set up another domain pointer to direct visitors into it.  Because of that, the offer of "unlimited subdomains" only holds true for the first domain.  When I got ready to develp my second site, I was told I couldn't have sub-domains on it.  Formatulate your own opinion, but mine is that this is false advertising.  Unless your only conserned about 1 domain, my suggestion would be to find another.

My site has been hosted at dot5hosting for about six months, and overall I've been very satisfied. Not only is the price right, but there has been very little downtime. I have received very good customer support. Files transfer quickly to and from the site. I feel like I'm dealing with real human beings who have a stake in the company.

The control panel is a bit slow, but it is easy to navigate and it provides all the necessary functions. If all goes as it has, I'll renew. Good job, folks at Dot5. Keep it up.

I just started using Dot 5 (11/27/02) because of the reviews I have been reading here. However, it does appear there are some problems Dot 5 is experiencing with their NS 17 server.

NS 17 does not seem to be an ideal place to have your site parked at.
The first time I noticed a problem was when I was saving changes to my site and got caught in a hang up because the server went down in the middle of the save. Needless to say I was not too happy.

Customer service was quick to respond via their online chat through their main website (Coincidently, not on NS 17). The tech (Tony - I think) mentioned that NS 17 was having problems becasue of a spammer.

This was troubling to hear that there was (or is) a spammer residing on the same server my site is hosted on. This is becasue a server can get black listed for spamming, and then everyone's email who resides on that server will also be blocked.

NS 17 also seems to be very sluggish and slow at times. The site I have is a personal site and is not loaded with graphics, or anything else that would slow it down.

I see that Web Hosting Rating's only has one site they are monitoring on Dot 5. So I have submitted my site for monitoring as well. Hopefully, having any additional sites listed for monitoring will give everyone a better picture of what is occuring at Dot 5.

While my review may sound a bit negative on Dot 5, I feel I should give them a chance to work out some glitches they acknowledged in a previous review. They do have a responsive customer service team, and seeing they offer a 30 day money back guarantee I am willing to give them a shot in resolving their issues. However, I will be looking to move the site over to iPower Web (where my other site is hosted) if the problems are not worked out soon.

i did a lot of comparisons. this is my first host and i am completely satisfied.

server speed is extremely fast good for downloading and uploads are always at my upload cap of 30k. speedy. also, customer service is the best. questions are answered in 2 or 3 hours and if their online support guy is on u can talk to him too. downtime has never really been a problem. if u need a host gte this one- don't let the cheap prices fool u, u get more than wat u pay for.

We had excellent service for two months; in the past several weeks a series of short downtimes have occurred nearly every day. Then yesterday, we had a 2 hour outage. Today we've been down for 4 hours. No response from Support. If you check their support forums, you'll see many other posts discussing the same problem. We will probably switch.

I got problems for uploading and configuring the Server at the beginning. But many thanks to TONY KAMMERER tony@domineaux.net Administrator for Dot5Hosting my problems was fixed in less than 24 hours. I have a Reseller account for 10 Domains and they charge me only 24.99 US-Dollar per month with 500MB Webspace, unlimited mail account und unlimited subdomains.

I can highly recommend Dot5Hosting und recommend for everybody to ask for TONY that he manage the account.

I am since more than 10 years in Computer business but I found less than 5 men like TONY.
