Ive used this site for over three months without any problems at all. Yes, you do have to figure a few things out on your own, but Im kind of a novice and I thought everthing was pretty self explanitory. I think most of these ratings were made by competitors.

About a year ago, I requested a total transfer to a new web provider. FreeHostingWeb took it upon themselves to make a partial transfer, retaining control over the DNS settings. Recently, they told me that I had to pay their annual $35 fee or I would lose my domain name rights. Keep in mind that they go through dotregistrar.com, which charges individuals $15 annually. What FreeHostingWeb wanted the extra $20 for, I have no idea - seeing as how I haven't been using their server for over a year. I received no response to my request to change DNS. So, I sent another one, two days later, completely detailing my situation in a novelesque manner. Two days later, I received a reply, "Please send me your exatly request." Not only did they not have the time to read about my problem, they didn't even have the time to correctly spell their reply to me. Again, I detailed the problem out to them. Then, I received another response, again two days later, "What is your problem?" I outlined the problem to dotregistrar.com and they, being a good customer service organization, gave me control over my domain. Now, I don't have to deal with FreeHostingWeb again. Even though they changed their name to AAA-WebHost, they're still at the bottom of my list for providers. Trust me, stay clear of them. You'll be doing yourself a big favor.

Does anyone know how we can get our money back from FreeHostingWeb? I got an email from "Bill" that said I was going to get a refund, but it's been over 2 months now and I still haven't gotten anything back from him.

Is there a report we can formally file or does anyone know of what we can do to get our money back?

If so, please post a reply or send me an email at florencefchan@hotmail.com

Thanks.

I signed up and paid. When I needed to recover my password after a computer crash I tried their website and searched high and low for their telephone number. The links on the webhosts own site are broken for days (all but 'Sales'.) I did get an email address (via my credit card company). This was just more wasted energy. There was no response. However, the email did not bounce. Write them an email at
bill@freehostingweb.net
You may want to sent a few dozen...
I will report them because I want to use my domain name elsewhere. DO NOT USE THIS HOST. YOU ARE BETTER OFF THROWING YOUR MONEY AWAY (less frustation).

freehostingweb used to be an excellent hosting company. After being sold recently, service has gone downhill drasticaly. It took 3 days to setup a help desk acount before I could even submit a helpdesk ticket and it has been over 2 weeks with no responce to my security concern. My control panel only works now and then, my e-mail accounts work less often then they work, and their own helpdesk is down and has not worked in several days.
Stay away or get away from them ASAP!

There have been too many problems to list, but here is the latest and most troubling.

I registered two domain names with them in January of this year.  Immediately I realized something was wrong and initiated transfer proceedings, instructing them to transfer the names to my new host (affordablehost.com) as soon as the mandatory 60-day waiting period was up.

It is now mid-May, and they have not responded to either my or Affordablehost's requests to transfer.  Furthermore, my name has mysteriously disappeared off the registration of one of the domain names, though Whosis lookup still lists it as being registered.

I have proof of the registrations, but no idea what to do with it.  If anyone has any legal experience with forcing a domain transfer of an owned name, I'd appreciate your help.

The worst customer service. The worst uptime. This is the leisure-suited used car dealer of the information superhighway, period!

I got my domain name back, though. Screw these shysters selling your domain name! Here is how I did it:

Contact DotRegistrar and let them know you are filing a complaint and want your domain back. THEY CAN INITIATE TRANSFER! Freehostingweb is a reseller for DotRegistrar, and the registrar can step in, but you have to ask!

The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, people. DotRegistrar is made up of a bunch of sorry rat bastards too! They had me pay $20 for registration/transfer, but I wanted my domain and $20 is chump change if you’ve been promoting your URL and would have to replace all your letterhead and such for much more.

I had to call DotRegistrar (305-971-3440, which is voicemail, not a phone; no live pickup on calls, no matter what time, and never a callback) and email CONSTANTLY so my transfer wouldn’t fall through the cracks. After about a week, it was done.

After it is done, DO NOT FORGET TO FILE YOUR COMPLAINT! Freehostingweb and DotRegistrar aren’t fit to sell cow manure, let alone technology services. To their credit, DotRegistrar actually answers email, but that's about all. Ripping people off for another $20 for failures of resellers they do business with really burned their bridge with me. Freehostingweb is below contempt, and I’d gladly jump on board any class-action lawsuit. I agree with one of the other posters about C-net, which ought to be re-named C-nothing. I don’t think they’ve picked a good host in years... yes, YEARS... but they definitely picked a gem with freehostingweb.

PC Doctor LLC has been with freehostingweb.com for almost a year.  My company has put 3 web sites on their server since mine went up.  It started out great but started having problems.  My web site was hacked into and the hacker changed the name.  It took about 2 weeks to get back up.  I went in and was finally able to reinstall (upload) the pages.  Ok, not to bad.  But then, two more of my customer’s sites they we developed have gone down.  One has been down for almost 2 months now.  The other web site is on its second time being down and is on its third week. Both companies rely on their web sites for their business.  I finally got an email back only after I sent a nasty email with the subject line: ONE PI@@ED OFF CUSTOMER! But that did not help me any.  Their phones are a joke and trying to email a help ticket is too.  You can not even key in to send a help ticket.  How ever, the email they did send me stated that I needed to go through the help desk and summit a ticket.  HaHa.  Can not do that. I did send an email to NBC investigation to see if they could investigate.  Have not heard from them as of yet.  I like how freehostingweb has at the bottom of their site (under new management) and (We have recently installed a new support center).  I wonder if the new support center was just out of high school and under new management and they have all these problems going on.  Time to call the old management back in to get it back up and running.  Needless to say, I still have unhappy customers they would like to move their site to another host, but this is also impossible to do. Something has really gone wrong with this company and there is NO way to find out what we can do.  Businesses are being hurt and this is their biggest season of the year.  This web site host does not have good customer service by any means! I would like to see a public response from freehostingweb.com

I was happy with the service for about 6 months, until the management apparently changed.  I was also affected by the hax0rs lab hack. When my site went down, there was no response to help desk submissions, and e-mails bounced back.  Now my site apparently has mixed up dns addresses, so when you type in my domain name, who knows what site will show up from day to day.  Repeated attempts to contact garnered NO response.  Nothing.  Since my domain name is registered with them, I registered a new one with another company (ICDSoft) to spare myself the headache and frustration of trying to get them to release it (which I'm assuming they won't).  I feel really bad for all the folks whose businesses depend on their web address.

FreeHostingWeb took my $50 and then sent me one (and only one) e-mail containing nothing but a bunch of FAQs, one of which mentioned a "welcome e-mail" I was supposed to have received that contained specific instructions about transferring my domain name. When I tried to get another "copy" of this welcome e-mail, all I got was another copy of the same FAQs.  Tried e-mailing tech support, tried calling, even tried e-mailing and calling the person who received my PayPal payment for this service, all with NO response whatsoever. The only thing I got from FreeHostingWeb was a $50 debit to my checking account!

They do not provide notifications of preventable downtime (like exceeding your bandwith or matters like that).  They just let you figure it out eventually.

They are down often and don't email explanations.

They were just hit by hackers, I've called the number, emailed them, called the NEW number after the old one dissapeared but the new number doesn't actually exist.

I'm very worried that I won't be able to get my domain back from them!

This hosting service is the worst ive seen. number 1 my site has only been up for less than a month. its now been 2 weeks and my site still isnt up. number 2 when i did have it up i keep getting people hacking into my site. as a webmaster i have to say this is more than likely a fraud. reasons being 1 location, 2 no response from e-mail or help desk tickets. what i thought was a good deal ended up being the worst. i guess the saying is true, you get what you pay for.

Everything was fine for about a month. Then, my site would go down for a few hours at a time. No problem, you get what you pay for, right? Then, hours turned into days. Then, I noticed some German anti-war group had hacked my page. It happened twice in the course of a week and a half. They changed my password so I couldn't even make changes to my site. After not hearing anything from technical support *ever* - I decided to give up.

So far as I can tell, a guy named "Bill" who sounds like a Texan and lives in Costa Rica is the only employee of this company.  I moved my site to the freehostingweb server in february of this year after reading a glowing review on c|net.
What a disaster it has turned into.  First, I was double billed, which was only resolved after a threatened charge-back.  Then my site went down about a week ago, only to be replaced by a hacker with some garbage which I was able to remove just in time to see the server crash completely.  That was last thursday.
After dozens of ignored e-mails and trouble tickets, I finally got in touch with "Bill" in Costa Rica who told me that they were the victim of a crafty hacker who had also targeted companies like Microsoft, etc. and that my site would be up in four hours.  Four days later, no website, and I called their temporary 800 assistance number for people who had been hosted on their tropicaldns server.
What do you know? It was "Bill" again, with more lies and B.S.  How these people are still legally accepting money from people, I don't know.  It's the worst experience I've ever had online since I built my first website in 1996.  The pits.

Mysteriously, c|net no longer seems to have any record of their glowing review of this host.

I'm just praying at this point that my being the administrator of my domain will allow me to get out, since these people will do nothing for you at all except lie.

Obviously, there's a problem here.  I think we [all] need to develop a Class-Action against this so-called "company".  Same story as most of these reviews.  These guys are slick.  Totally customer oriented until they get your money! I too was positively referred by a review from CNet (must of received some nice kickbacks).  My site was only operating half the time in about 3 months.  Then hacked (probably "internal", if you ask me).  Then disappeared off the planet.  CPanel interface has a security problem after research.  So, I would probably avoid the CPanel offering as well with other hosts.  I'm in the process of changing domains and I hope I get the name back.  DON'T BE LURED by these guys, plain & simple! Please, by all means, contact me if you know of a "solution" to this problem.  Something needs to be done!

When I first went to their site, it looked great. I couldn't believe all that was offered for 60 bucks a month.
Since day one, it NEVER worked 100 percent correctly. First it was the CPanel. Then it was Frontpage extensions, then email problems, then downtime..anywhere from 5 minutes to 36 hours! My site was hacked not once but twice! They almost NEVER respond to emails. The ONLY time I got a quick response was when I asked them to cancel my service, they did it instantly!! Figures. Don't waste your time and money, these people don't give a @$#! about you after they have your check.

It appeared at first to be terriffic.  Good price a lot of features albeit you had to figure things out on your own. But then the site was hacked into. Now my site is dead.  Each time I or anyone tries to access it something else comes up. The DO NOT RESPOND to help desk requests or emails.  My site is just gone.  I have lost business, been embarrassed and suspected of illegal activities as a result of the random sites that pop up when my email address is put in.

I have been with them for about a year. Previous to this month I have had no real problems. (I have a client who I also put on freehostingweb.net, they have had intermittent problems and I have since moved them.)

They were hacked earlier this month and blew out my MySQL db in order to quickly move my site from the hacked server to the one they just pulled up clean. Since then my DNS records regularly disappear with either misconfiguration or the DNS servers being unavailable.

AVOID!!!!

The word ‘unprofessional’ just doesn’t do this justice - Review by Anonymous submitted on March 20, 2003

Words can’t express just how robbed I feel. C|Net has a track record of choosing horrible hosts in its ratings and did so again in listing this one with an above-average grade. I got suckered by C|Net’s listing and placed an order for domain hosting.

Perhaps it was a sign of things to come when I placed my order and never heard back from this host. No confirmation, no nothing. It wasn’t until I went to their payment provider (who threatened freehostingweb to remit my payment and remove them from service) that I got an email confirmation and reply. Mailing lists didn’t work, although they worked after 3-4 emails to tech support.

Service for awhile was ok. In early March, the site was taken down by hackers and stayed down for nearly two weeks. Now my website URL points to a completely unrelated site. I have called, emailed, etc. Nothing. No reply. No answer on the phone. Attempts to transfer to another host have proven fruitless. Still no action when I request a DNS change.

ICANN lists a dispute resolution policy at http://www.icann.org/dndr/udrp/policy.htm -- those interested in trying to get back their domain names and having no luck should pursue complaints. Whois lists dotregistrar.com as a related party. Anyone with info?

They took my $50. Never set up the site. Never sent a welcome letter. Never responded to my e-mail. Just recently they ignored a transfer of another domain name I had registered with them. Since it was down to the wire this may lead to my loss of the name. I think this hosting service is run by a get rich quick bunch. If you have trouble with them abandon all hope.

I have hosted two sites with this company. Email never worked properly with the first account, and my requests for help were ignored. Then the site went down for two days. I stopped payment through my credit card company and never did hear from freehostingweb. Now, my second site - a client's site - has been hacked by hax0rs lab. So have MOST of the sites on FreeHostingWeb. These sites have been down for almost a week, yet mail sent to FreeHostingWeb -bounces- because the mailbox is full! Stay away from these people. They will take your money and give you nothing in return!

Bait and switch Scam. - Review by Anonymous submitted on January 22, 2003

Transferred my personal homepage domain name to them in October 2002 for hosting, and got mediocre service from them at that point but eventually it went through.  I just figured it was complications due to my domain name being near expiration, so I gave them another chance with a new business venture website.

I signed up for hosting under the .com name, and just registered the .net and .org names to point to the .com webspace.  The domain registration of the .net/.org went through, though their receipt makes no mention of the actual domain name, which makes me worried and suspicious.  As for the main .com name, they charged my credit card and then NOTHING happened.  After a week they hadn't even registered the domain name.  Their phone support line only resulted in a busy signal.

I immediately went to another webhosting/registration site and registered the .com domain name, and then initiated transfer procedures for the other three names I have with them.  I only hope that I manage to retreive my domain property from them.  Getting my money back as per their so-called "10-day money-back guaranttee" would just be an extra bonus.

Do NOT use this service.  From what I've read they used to be good, but changed owners and the new owner has for some strange reason opted to run the business into the ground for a quick buck.  (Though I fail to see how they're possibly making a quick buck by ruining a formerly well-reputed web hosting service.)

Getting back your domain name: HOW TO- a) submit transfer request to webhost + new registrar & wait 10 days; b)search whois to identify current registrar, send email re: efforts to transfer domain name, request transfer, & notify of intent to file formal complaint; c) when current registrar changes admn contact, then submit tranfer request to new registrar

Freehostingweb has all the earmarks of a company that is about to go out of business.  Zero customer support.  They no longer have a toll-free support line -- you have to make a toll call to Costa Rica.  They do not respond to help desk requests.  I was locked out of my control panel three times.  I was unable to configure FTP access.  E-mails to my address were inexplicably blocked.

The host is unprofessional.  It has no customer service dept.  The welcome emails are either not sent or misdelivered to strangers.  There have also been service interruptions.  To make matters worse, the owner is an alleged criminal.  I have a domain hosted here but I doubt I will get it back.  What to do now?

This is fraud.  We should all join a class action law suit against this company.  It's a real shame because they used to be good, but the new owner just quit responding to help questions.  My site is completely down.  I've lost 700 hits a day.

Just like many of the other reviewers, I had money taken from me and have never gotten anything from them.  I have since found that the phone number they have posted on their web site has been suspended.  To make things worse, the web site they use to collect money from you also has an inoperable phone number.  I am not sure of anything with this company other than to feel I have been fraudalently TAKEN.

My domain is down several times a week. About a month ago I opened a new account with a different host and asked them to uddate the nameserver to point to my new host. I've sent several emails support, new accounts, their help desk, and any other email address of theirs that I could find. I have had no absolutely response from them. It's like they don't exist. My advice would be to stay well away of this company.

In July, I paid the $49 for their hosting service and to have my domain name registered. They quickly sent me a confirmation with my ID and password but have yet to register or activate my domain name. I'm able to access my control panel and upload files using their IP address, but not via my domain name. Upon checking, my domain still shows as being available to be registered. I have filled out countless helpdesk tickets on their website with no response. My emails are answered by an autoresponder and their only phone number instructs you to use their online website. It's apparent that this company doesn't have any "real people" and are now laughing all the way to the bank. Looks to me to be an obvious SCAM!

I have changed my hosting because this host cannot provide adequate service. Everyday I had trouble accessing my sites control panel or e-mail. Most times I would get a DNS error page or a technical difficulty page. sometimes I would have to wait til the next day to get important e-mail because my e-mail client "couldn't find the server"

They have a help desk and you submit a ticket to them but there are only several Items on the list, none for site down. They never acknowledge that they recieved your mail or that they fixed the problem or that there is even a problem.
