I have been with Hostsave for far too long. ( Over a year of this stuff...why you may ask? - stupid I guess....also too busy running a business to deal with this until now. ) I have saved every e-mail with every issue I have had with them ranging from their control panel not working at all - which they have admitted to - but havn't fixed...the fact that my site is constantly missing and that since their latest addition of a whole new control panel I can't log in - FTP - or anything to one web address and the other site is not on line at all anymore and I can't access that either.

Of course all of these e-mails and the corresponding responses from Hostsave saved in the overweight folder do me no good.( usually I only receive form letters that make you feel like you are going crazy after you include all the details and get a "Thank you for choosing Hostsave...") Not to mention only 3% of the time should you expect an e-mail ( even form letter ) within 24 hours. NO phone number - nothing!

So now I can't cancel - get a response or a phone number or anything. I finally filed with the BBB and hope someone will actually call and help me escape.

Why do I get the feeling there is just one little creepy guy behind a web site here pulling levers and taking money and doing nothing with the e-mails pouring in. (OZ)

Here is the company's info at the better business bureau - take 5 minutes and file a complaint - this is so ridiculous and I think no service on line should be this negligent and get away with it;

I moved my site: videofreedom.tv to hostsave.com three weeks ago.  They faithfully DNS served and hosted for two weeks then no-longer DNS served the name.  I've been down two weeks, losing business and they will not respond to requests.  I have used them for two years in the past and found them to be great.  They have recently seemed to go to pieces.

I think HostSave has got to be one of the worst companies that I've ever dealt with in any business.  There service is horrible and their payment scenario is suspicious.

After registering a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, it gave me this information on the parent company of HostSave:

HostSave's mail server is repeatedly blacklisted by SpamCop because HostSave accounts are used to send spam and HostSave do not enforce their own acceptable usage policy by closing these accounts.

The mail server has been blacklisted 17 times in the last 10 weeks! For details go to www.SpamCop.net and look up HostSave's mail server address (207.150.192.13). As I use my HostSave account to send and forward email this is a MAJOR problem.  What's more, when you complain to HostSave that there's a problem with email forwarding etc they just suggest that your configuration is wrong.  It took me a long time to figure out what was really going on.

I am now in the process of moving my account somewhere else.  If you want useable email forwarding then don't touch HostSave with a barge pole.

I have been using HostSave for more than a year. Virtually no downtime. Fairly active site with several gigs of traffic per month.

In the 3 months I've used them they have charged my credit card for monthly services even though I paid for a *year* in advance. They have not responded to any of the 5 emails I've sent regarding this over the last three weeks. They claim to have 24/7 support and say they will respond to any message within 24 hours. Obviously not true.

Today my site is down along with the mail server. Of course there is no phone number to call and I only got an automated response to my email to tech support.

I don't expect a whole lot for $7.95 a month but I *do* expect Hostsave to provide what it said it would and not rip people off.

I'm considering taking legal action.


No phone number to call and only an automated response from the host.

If you use this host you are basically screwed and have no recourse.

Have had nothing but trouble. Site & e-mail been down for days, they have NO phone number, and if you send via response form (which they claim 24/7 suport HA), they don't respond in 24 hrs like they say--and when your running a business, 24 hrs is a LONG time anyways. I'm changing once I can get them to respond to my cancelation.

As documented in several e-mail exchanges with HostSave, the service has been unreliable.  Mail and FTP and HTTP servers just stop working occasionally.  The final straw was when your DNS was broken long enough that my domain seemed to disappear from the Internet for a day.  It was up to me to detect, diagnose and resolve the problem, which I did by switching providers.  E-mail support generally took several hours, and since no web or phone support was available during this last crisis, there was no status, ETA, apology or anything.

Needless to say, the fact that I'm posting the company's contact info says I think their customer service/billing practices are worthless.  While I, personally, have never had problems with the web site itself, the way they handle billing and their lack of response is pathetic.  Good luck accessing their control panel! If they do respond (they did twice),they completely ignore the problem reported and send a "form letter" which does not address the issue at all. If you are just playing, and looking to save a nickel, HostSave is just fine.  However, if your business depends on your website and/or email being up, don't bother with these guys.  While I have not had much trouble, when their DNS server went down on 4/25/02, they did not notify me of their diagnosis (either directly or by posting something on their website), or respond to my pleading emails for 24 hours.  I had no idea what was wrong, and there is no telephone number to call to find out.

This company has a lot of unexpected downtime. I am in the process of changing hosts, which is what brought me here. Today they were down for over 10 hours, which means my site and 2 client sites were both down, which includes email. On top of that, when it FINALLY came back up, all emails sent to me during the downtime were lost. They were all bounced back to the sender. I verified this by sending myself an email from another address. This downtime wasn't the only time in 3.5 months, but it was the worst. To make matters worse, they do not offer web-based email or ONE phone number for tech. support, sales, customer service, etc.

I used to own an ISP so I can tell you these guys are not worth doing business with.  No human contact, ok for $7 a month.  But I sent 4 emails and waited over 24 hours--still no response.  Password just quit working, did a reset--no help and no one to talk to.

I have had my site with them for over a year. 
Three months after I singed up with them, they
migrated their site to a larger server, dumping my website so
I had to totally redo it because it corrupted my site. No apologies,
and a lot of dollars for a web designer later...

Then last month, the final straw! Somehow, a charge card that I only had
registered with their server started to
be used for unauthorized purchases,(it is very possible
that the number was stolen another way beside from the
place it resided on Hostsave--I think they offer secure
service) so I closed the card--which of course they used to
pay my bill.  When the bill became due,
they pulled my account off line over the easter
weekend, never calling me in advance about the billing problem, leaving my
online resume business out of business for four
days before they had the courtesy to reconnect me-
after sending more than 6 frantic email.  No place to
call, no emails back.  These guys promised 24 hour
service when you send them an email.  Don't count on it. They
can't seem to count to 24 (more like 96 hours later)and they send you empty apologies with no recompensense.

I only hope the other stories about them being stinky on
switching domain names is not true.  I am so out of there--

Hostsave SUCKS!!!! I cannot stress enough that you should stay far, far away from them.  They started out ok, but have gotten progressively worse and their customer service is non-existant.  I wonder how many people work there? I am TRYING to leave them, but after numerous emails asking for cancellation (including all the required info for cancellation as indicated in their FAQ section) I have yet to hear from them.  Not even a stupid automated message.  I think my messages go straight to the garbage can. The only thing I can think of to do is to cancel my credit card.  If you sign up with Hostsave, you are an idiot.

Was given the runaround on a domain name issue for more than two weeks. Got fed up and tried to cancel--but can't seem to get anyone to answer my e-mails...four attempts so far this week. I am prepaid for the year, so this is the equivalent of being held hostage. BEWARE!

I have had a site on HostSave for 3 months now.  I had a horrible time getting my site uploaded, followed by a period of relative peace, until I went to do some extensive upgrades of my site.  The Front Page extensions apparently got corrupted (broken, according to their childish language).  I went to the control panel to try and reinstall, but the Remove Front Page Extensions button didn't work.  Neither did half the other links in that so-called Control Panel.  What a mess.  I emailed customer service and they emailed back and said that they sent a page to my site and everything was fine - unfortunately I still couldn't upload.  Maybe I could if I put the word "test" on a blank sheet and sent it up there like they did - who knows.  My site is a little more complex than that unfortunately.  Now I'm having trouble getting them to respond at all, and I'm positive I am going to have hell getting my domain name server password out of them.  Funny how they don't give you that up front.  Stay away from this one - cheaper is NOT always better!

When it was time for them to renew my domain name, they charged my credit card and never did it. After 10 days without support, I have renewed my name by myself. They still did not want to refund the money that they have charged. They claim that the registry should not have allowed me to renew my name.
Otherwise, when there are no problems, and when you don't need support, it works fine.
I came here to look for other hosting options.

Don't get me wrong, I like Hostsave, but ... The customer service thing irks me, and they don't always answer my questions.  They ARE a hell of a lot better than my old host, but I think I'm just outgrowing them.  Sad, really.  I like them.

Useless web-hosting company.  Transferred to them for 1 year already and there has not been a single week without any problems, especially with mails.  When contacted, they usually reply saying that they will check up and mail back.  Never received any reply as of today to over 30 mails sent over the past year.  Definitely not recommended.  $7.95 per month should be spent on more decent web hosting companies.

HostSave makes a number of claims about its responsiveness to its customers.  It used to be an excellent site.  Now, their support is virtually non-existant - problems go on for weeks without resolution, they make technical changes without testing them, and there are no means to escalate the problem to a resolution.  Here is an example of what they don't do -

Based on our 1 1/2 or so years with hostsave they've have been a very good host. We've used them as a front end to our ebay auctions. I have had far more bad experiences with ebay than Hostsave!

I've found hostsave's customer support quick to respond, but perhaps a little lacking when it comes to helping with issues outside of their scope. e.g. back when I was first learning about server side includes I asked their tech support how to get it working and got a basic "we can't help you with that" response with no pointers to other resources. This was quite a while ago so they may have improved since then.

The control panel is simple enough to use, but seems a little buggy. The glitches make me scratch my head in wonder rather than being annoying in any way. I seldom use the control panel, but from what I've seen of it I think the user interface could use some improvement.

All in all, this is a good cheap host to start out with for small to medium sized solutions. They seem to be focused on keeping their hardware & software up to date, which is a good thing. Their recent fee increase seemed more than fair for the customer (who received more monthly transfer and double the disk quota).

They're absolutely fine for someone who just wants basic FTP/HTML. However, if you want to start writing CGI scripts it pays to either know what you're doing beforehand or pay more elsewhere for a host that will go the extra mile & walk you through the tech-related questions.

The price is right. But, their tech support, a dufus named [snipped], ignored all logic in my repeated attempts to explain a problem I was having with test emails to the new email address I'd created bouncing back. In effect, his response was, "I'm not seeing the problem [with minimal testing], therefore your problem doesn't exist. Sorry for your interest in trouble-free email."

I eventually had to say to him, "I guess I'll just have to give up using this new email address." No reply.

Further, their billing office keeps telling me that I need to configure something or other in the control panel for a second account I've set up. However, the control panel won't let me log in, and billing keeps ignoring my responses telling them that.

I really should have rated them lower. I guess I'm optimistic that eventually I'll get some satisfaction.

Unbelievablly horrible experience. I wasted my time and money. Everything I tried did not work. I used cute_FTP, webmonkey, then at their suggestion purchase Microsoft FrontPage. and still nothing. The Access pages do notmake sense,and some of their instructions are base on antiquated data. Horrible, terrible,

I've used this host for more than one website, and referred over 10 people to them. Their control panel is very user friendly.  If I ever have had a customer service question, true, they do not have live representatives, but they do answer your queries within 24 hours.  I think a lot of you are expecting way too much.  The service is only $7.95 a month.  We get way more than what we pay for already.  I've never had downtime, I have never had a single problem, and I've had sites hosted with them since 1999.  Sure, if you were paying some $19.95 or more a month, you could get a live representative, but I don't see why any of that is necessary.  I have contacted support, and asked them the most irrelevant questions that had nothing to do with Hostsave, or what they can do for me, and they have directed me to the proper resources.  The company is as good as it gets for the price.  When my web needs change, and I need more space, or a different kind of service, then I'll move on, but for now, I think they provide a lot of service for the money.

Their up time seems to be pretty reliable, but several times they suspended our account (no access to our page) because our credit card had expired. No one told us until after the fact, so it took a week to get that straightened out.

I assumed they would renew our domain name, or at least remind me that it had to be done, but they didn't and now our account is suspended again. i don't trust their tech service.

We don't use their email services, so no comment on this.

I have had my site hosted by Hostsave for over 2 years and thought that they were adequate until now.  The billing department is so slow at responding to issues.  I do not like the fact that you cannot reach these guys via telephone.  I cannot find their phone number ANYWHERE! I do not even mind if it is not a TOLL FREE number, I will pay the long distance costs to talk to ANYONE.  But, NO CAN DO! If they would respond to my e-mails in the time that they promise (within 48 hours) that would be great - - but they do not.  I am very unhappy with their service, but I am stuck because I think that it would be a huge hassel to switch services.  Not even sure how to go about it :-(

I have had no problems with Hostsave - You get what you pay for. For 7 bucks I would not expect 24/7 live tech support. Its a service for someone who knows what they are doing. All I needed was space and a cgi directory and email - all work fine for me. They did have a DOS attack on 2/19/02 but that can happen to ANY webhost and it was fixed within hours.

At first, I thought this host was great.  My site was up and running very quickly.  My site is not critical, but I still would like it up and running.  Today has been awful.  Could not display or upload files to my site, emailed for Support...still waiting.  Now I can't even access www.hostsave.com! Don't do it believe me. They have absolutely no sure way of contacting them. All I wanted was for them to install FrontPage extensions on their server a 15 minute job max. After 36 hours still nothing. Numerous emails sent and no response. There Control Panel is not easy to navigate either. Do youe self a favor and pay a little more for your service. I'm totally disappointed. Luckily I only signed up for three months!

After over 2 years of hosting my website, they cancelled my website with NO EXPLANATION! They charged my credit card on 1/24/02 for their prepaid web hosting service for the next 3 months, taking me through 4/02, and then notified me on 2/4/02 (with a canned email) that they cancelled my account! I immediately wrote to them asking for an explanation, and, finally, after 5 days of having NO WEBSITE and LOSING BUSINESS,they respond with another canned email telling me that I have to pay a reactivation fee to get up and running again.  Still no explanation! Avoid these guys like the plaque.  The only way to get in touch with them is via email (no phone number listed)and then it takes them 5 days to respond!

All of the reviews I read are bad but I have not any problems with their server yet. If you want customer service you have to use their e-mail address billing@hostsave.com becuase they don't respond to their online support form. But they did respond to my e-mail in about two days. One more thing, they raised their price by $1.00 per month but they added 1 more gig of data transfer and also they are 60 megs of space now and not 30.

I had several domains hosted at Hostsave, and until I hosted my most recent domain there I had not had any problems. My site has been down for more than a week now and they have not responded to the support email form. I am now transferring all my domains to another hsoting company due to the general lack of enthusiasm for their customers and disregard for responsibility.

When you look at the price (we paid $6.95/mo) and look at the features, it looks like a great deal. In the beginning, server sesponse and speed were very good.

However, after some time, FTP time-outs were common, and mail retrieval was extermely slow - that is, if we could retrieve mail at all.

Slow response time, customer service that consists of "cut and paste" from their FAQ guide...only the most dedicated masochists should even consider these guys. I cannot emphasize what a mistake I made signing a one year contract with these guys (no refunds of course). Absolutely deplorable. Plus they are being snotty about domain transfers.

They claim to have 99.9% up-time and 24-hr support. Just pray that you never have any sort of problem, because their idea of support is telling you to fix it yourself. Their email server stopped sending my email. After a long exchange, I was told to do just that. It's been nothing but frustration.
