Well almost an independent viewpoint. I have just decided to reject hostcolor as my provider for me and my clients. Their services are reasonably priced for their offerings and customer support responds quickly, but I have found little support or answers for slow and intermittent problems. They also try to blame 'my ISP' for their internal problems. A good host for the hobbiest or developer to test designs, but choose somewhere else to host live business sites.

Hostcolor is one of two hosts that i have sites with, And i must say that while they have had a few issues in the past, i would have to rate them higher.
Support responses from Hostcolor always come back within 5 minutes to 3 hours, no matter what time of night or day - a really good thing, especially when the low cost is factored into this!!
There were a few issues with every file being owned by root recently, but a quick email to support and the files were changed back to their original permissions.
Thumbs up to HostColor - Excellent customer service, extremely generous bandwidth caps & disk quota.

When I first signed up to hostcolor everything was great, they were everything thing I wanted to host my forum site, then came the downtime, lots of it, it appeared that they had a valid reason for it so I let it go, things improved again until parts of my forum stopped working, I found out they wre running the server in safe mode, this stopped the majority of my site working, I asked them to restore the server to it original state but I was told this wasnt possible as it was a security risk, since then I have felt I have not been recieving the service I originally signed up for, then today I find my site has been down all day, due to another problem, and now my site wont load my .php files, c'mon hostcolor, your making your company look very amateur, I for one am currently looking for a new webhost as all I seem to have learnt is how your support system works, and even then that can be very slow.

We've had our site hosted by HostColor and it can be a roller coaster ride. Sometimes our site goes down for a few hours at a time. Sometimes our mail goes down for a few hours at a time. If it's planned downtime, it happens with no warning and no explanation - before or after. If it's unplanned downtime, again it happens with no warning and no explanation afterward. Service and support can take as much as 24 hours to respond. By then, the problem has gone away, so the resolution is that your site is currently up and the investigation goes no further. Still, it's pretty good for the price. If you cannot have downtime - especially unplanned downtime - this is probably not the best service for you.

For a small site without much traffic, this package is perfect in size and price. I haven't had any technical problems with Host Color. Both times I sent questions by e-mail, they sent back helpful answers within minutes (literally!). Compared to a more expensive host I tried, the only difference is that Host Color's support is much faster and friendlier. Recommended!

They have a good staff, tech support takes 12-24 hours to resolve usually, not the fastest, but accepatable by my standards. In my 4 months with them I had maybe 3 days of downtime due to a kernal error. A pretty good host overall although the kernal error dropped my rating from 9 to 7.

I have been happy with the service up until the past couple months. The service was down for a couple days. When service was restored my site accounts where gone. I baically had to setup the site from scratch. I am now unable to login using SSH and the support has been unable to help me. Be aware that you cannot use telnet and SSH does not seem to work anymore. The plans seem to indicate that they offer SSH and telnet which is not true. They also seem to have alot of problems with security.

I submitted a review a few days ago complaining about the service, well I take it back, the service now is extra quick, just after a big server breakdown wich had 4 of my sites down for 2 days the time in customer service has decreased significantly. the only things they could add would be a bigger FAQ, like addr.com or tierranet.com and maybe preinstalled CGI`s... maybe in a perfec world

From time to time the site disappears, also the webmail has a lot of problems, support is not the best I've experienced. It's cheap but service is also cheap.
I will not be renewing or adding accounts. so far I have about 6 accounts with them

I have been hosting 2 sites with this company for several months now. Based on the reviews I read on read here it looked like the best deal for me and my business. In October, after a redesign of the site and during a very important business event, the site was down due to server problems. "We apologize." Because they back up the data only once a week, when the site was restored I had the old data. I had to upload the new files all over again and then constantly email them to change settings for permissions of files. Service was decent from then to now (there were still times where I could not get into the site, but not overly extended amounts of time). Right now the site has been down for several days with the excuse of "security problems". This does not resolve my problem off a loss of business from their servers going down. I will not be renewing my service there and I am seriously considering leaving them before my account expires and moving to another domain. Considering the fact that I paid for their most expensive accounts, I expected better service. Their site always seems to be running fine, so just the customers have to suffer from the downtime I guess. I cannot recommend this host to anyone serious about running a business.

Atleast once a week I have to report to this company regarding downtime on my site or an inability to access email. Their customer service is non-existant and their service level is near pitiful. I caution anyone considering using this service to look elsewhere. Clearly, they do not know how to run a hosting company and should not be in business.

The server your site is hosted on did have certain problems but we have always solved those as soon and professionally as possible. Regarding your on going issue with checking your e-mail we cannot directly analyse the problem as you never offered enough details of it. At the times you complain of it all the deamons are functional and there is available bandwidth. Hoping to be able to change your negative impression in the future. this has been my first host, since i've been using angelfire for my personal sites. but so far, hostcolor's really shaping up to be a good host. they're friendly (good tech support) and the mini pack was JUST what i needed -- 20 megs fr 35$ is much much much better than 100 for more. it would be wasted space :). if you're getting your first domain, i think hostcolor would be perfect for that.

They sometimes have some technical difficulties with their servers, but their tech support is truly excellent, and prices are great. So, if you don't mind your site being down for an hour once in a few months - hostcolor is a great choice.

However we were working round the clock to solve the problem and now it has been fixed. For the last months we have been haveing 100% uptime on all servers weeks on end.

Every once in a while I can not check my emails becuase of too much load on the server! I guess they use one server to host tens of domains! once or twice (and sometimes more) a week I have to open a ticket and notify them that I can not access my mails!

The problem with connection refusal has also been solved. It was caused by a fault in the kernel we use but now we are running a much improved and more reliable version. Now the POP3 deamon responds OK to all request.

We quickly and efficently brought up a basic site with mail forwarding within hours of signing up. Perhaps it is our inexperience building a site, but the on-line helps wern't useful for tasks like manafing users, setting up subdomains, setting up FTP access, and getting email. However their technical support by email is fast, cheerful, and useful. All in all Host Color is a bargain!

Host Color is a great hosting company. We have the basic hosting plan with a domain name for only $35.00 Great tech support, fast and reliable. Verry helpful when it comes to setting up your site. The main factors in my decision are the following; 20 MB web space 2 GB monthly transfer MySQL Database / phpMyAdmin 24/7 Tech support for only $35.00 per year.
Thats only $2.92 a Month... how can you beat that Tripod wants $4.95 a month for less than what HostColor offers.
I am Verry Pleased with my choice.

this hosting is simply great its awesome and its a great price for what you get. I haven't had a simgnle problem and they setup things within like 20 minutes after purchasing and the domain took only 2. For a beginner in buying hosting this place is for you.

I just setup a site using this service. Setup time was very fast. Host Color answered all my questions very quickly. Lot of features with service and eggcellent price. Cpanel quite impressive (maybe a tad slow but I don't spend 24 hrs in there either). Much betterthan previous services I have been with. So this is new site and review is based on short-term. I will be back when site is complete to give update.

You can't beat the price for what you get.. Just try to match it somewhere else! They would be absolutly perfect except for 2 problems. 1)when adding new customers they reboot the servers.. causing 10 seconds to a minute or so lost service.. not drastic but still annoying.. 2)control panel can crawl at times. I personally don't mind since I don't need to use it that often..
If those 2 bugs were fixed.. I would rate this Hostcolor #1..

I use a monitoring service. I receive an email about every other day informing me of outages. The outages range from a few minutes to a few hours. The level of down time is utterly unacceptable, no matter how cheap the price. The only reason I keep the service is that I have a noncommercial site that does not get a lot of traffic.

We host our site with this company and I think it's very good one. Their services are cheap, set up time is 6 hours and I don't have to wait when I need support. Every time I contact Host Color support these guys answer in time. I'm also satisfied of speed and uptime. It's very important I think that when they register Domain all contacts are in the clients' name. That means I keep control of all my Domains and I can move my sites elsewhere anytime I want.

Since I posted my first review, I have experienced absolutely no problems with any aspect of Host Color's service. Downloads of my web pages are very fast. Apparently the down time problem I described in my first post was isolated to a ca. 10 day period.
