At first glance Liquid Web seems like the ideal web host.  They have great prices, lots of features, and even the mandatory Flash intro.  They answered all my presales questions quickly, so I decided that I'd give them a shot.  That was my first mistake.

When I signed up with them, I opted for the free domain name.  That was my second mistake, because the domain was registered in Liquid Web's name and was not mine to keep.

At first, Liquid Web seemed great.  My site was reasonably fast, was up most of the time, and I generally had no complaints.  Then, one day, my site was suspended.  I quickly shot off an e-mail asking why it was suspended and that if it was some kind of mistake to put it back up.  I waited one day, no response.  Two days, no response.  Finally, on the third day I got a reply saying I was using too my of the system resources.  I was well under my bandwidth limit, but my simple HTML low-graphic website with 200 or so hits a day was taxing their server.

After several threatening e-mails, they finally let me have my site back.  A week later it was down again, but not because it was suspended.  It turned out that the server crashed because another client had been running an IRC script.

I could go on and on writing about other incidents like this one that happened to me during my stay with Liquid Web.  Don’t let this happen to you.  There are plenty of other hosts out there to choose from.  Make sure you do your homework.

Oh yeah, and about the domain name.  As soon as my contract with them ended I changed hosts.  However, they wouldn’t let me transfer it, claiming that it was “their property”.  I planned on waiting for it to expire, but they sold it to someone who has now registered it until 2011.
