The worst service in the business - Review by submitted on August 20, 2003

I've been hosting with M6 as a reseller for over a year. The worst problem with them is that their service is email/ticket only, and it is a 24-hour turnaround with the best case scenario. Here's some of the worst problems I've had with these guys.

Intermittent Email for MONTHS
They used athe IMail server, which they claim was causing all sorts of problems and explained the long episodes of downtime and inability to send email. I've got another account with CI Host (I've been with them for 2 years for another domain) and they've been using IMail without any problems at all!

Suspended Service!
Now that I've waited 3 months for them to switch from IMail to SmarterMail Pro and everything SHOULD be working, I woke up this morning to find that they've suspended my account for reasons unknown. No warning, no contact, just a firewall error when you try to hit my sites. Of course, I have to enter a ticket and wait 24-hours to see what they have to say about it!

Bottom line, if you're planning on reselling, do yourself a favor and skip the shared plans like M6 and go with a dedicated solution like rackshack.net or someone that will at least pick up a phone when you call!

don't waste the time - Review by Anonymous submitted on August 20, 2003

I originally went with this company to save a few bucks. It turned out to be a years worth of pain. First, they took 2 weeks to set up my account fully. When I gave up on them in week two and told them I wanted my money back since it took so long and was uncertain how long it would take to get service in the future. There response was no money back guarantee! To I told them to cancel my service and I would chock it up to a learning experience. I would not have hard feelings towards them if they didn’t continue charging my credit card. I reported them to my credit card company each month and got the money back b/c of their billing mistakes and lack of response to the card company. However, they kept charging my card. I tried everything I sent over a hundred emails to the “billing dept” and got only one response 5 months later. The guy I spoke to was very apologetic but in my opinion it was a little late for that. Since then I have had to cancel my credit card due the continued charging. Then once they couldn’t charge me anymore they threatened to report my billing problems onto my credit report and put my account into collections agency. Once again I tried and tried to contact them after receiving this letter. And again it took another week. They did get it straightened out that time, but it has been almost a year and I am still wondering if they will try to do anything.

What have I learned from this… don’t use a company that I can’t find any reviews on…

One more thing for anyone still considering m6.net as a possible host. They are not in Alabama. The NOC is in Alabama. Anyone that you need to talk to or discuss anything with is in Australia (hello time difference). Which means response times stinks. They take at least one day to get back to you. And that wonderful 888 number is just a voicemail number it means you leave a message and they might get back to you. Trust me I have left plenty of messages.

Overcharged credit card, told me it would be reversed 4 times, never did - had to get my bank to stop them from charging.

Support e-mails go un-replied.

All my inbound e-mail has been getting lost for 3 days - so any e-mail my clients are sending me is lost.

They make fake reasons for problems if you ever do get a response.

I have hosted with about 8 different hosts, and they are far and away the worst.

Had to change hosts in order to get any inbound e-mail since they were unable to resolve after 72 hours of downtime.

I have had my email down now for 2 days, and the e-mail that was sent, is being lost - my clients are frustrated, and I'm fed up.

Steer clear.

This is a warning to all who would be wise to heed it, DO NOT HOST WITH M6.NET! After signing up with them for a week the site was down for 7 hours straight. I contacted them repeatedly as to the reason the site was down and never gota response to this day. In fact when I went in to view the query that I had opened with them they had marked it complete without any response.

To be fair they did get back to me very fast on setting up various features on my website.

But don't be fooled. This company touts 254/7 support but they are in australia which means that when it is 4 pm in the eastern us it is 7 am at their office in Australia.

Try calling them on the 800 number and all you get is a generic answering machine asking you to leave a message. Noone ever called me back or even sent me an email concering the reasons I called.

When I tried to cancel my account after only 1 week of service they dragged their feet claiming that the mail server was down, however they got all my other emails but not the ones to billing, that is suspect.

Please I beg you for your own sake do not host with this company, they are suspect and not worth the aggravation.

Could not get their File Manager to work, web site down frequently. Many hours, between submitting a request and hearing an answer - no way is this a 24/7 operation.  I still have queries that were never answered.  FrontPage extensions never worked.

I signed up and hated it right away... the fun part was trying to cancel billing. They completely ignore any emails that ask for the service to be canceled. I sent five. Left plenty of phone messages. Started emailing the support email and the sales email - no response. Then called MasterCard and changed my card number - M6 got the new one and started charging again. I am right now in the process of working with MasterCard to do a charge back for months and months of billing for a service I never used.

Don't believe me? Just try to get somebody to answer the 800 number on their website. Leave a message and see if somebody calls you back. Pretend to be a customer and ask for your service to be cancelled - you'll find out what would happen if you ever tried for real. Don't take my word for it.

If anybody from M6 sees this and wants to talk to me... PLEASE DO! I've been trying to reach you guys for months! I've published my email address so feel free... is there a number in Australia where I can reach you? That's where they're located...

Or better just rag on me like you did some of the other posters... I'm okay with that - just let people know what kind of company they would have to deal with if they signed up!

By the way I'm with Alentus now and they are solid and very nice to *TALK* to. I have no affiliation with Alentus, I'm just really, really mad at these M6 people. I'm sure there are plenty on hosting companies besides Alentus that don't suck.  End of story.

I had an account with them and their service was terrible. I cancelled the accounbt and they dragged their feet.

Finally they cancelled the site but kept on billing me.

I stopped their right to charge my credit card and they stopped charging me.

Three months later they were charging me again.

I would reccommend that Advameg, Inc take this host off of their web site as these people seem only to be in business to steal people's money.

goddamn, people don't know what their on about, I had, @ one stage 8 sites with M6.net, and they provided nothing but quality service. There plans are fairly cheap, DEFINATELY AFFORDABLE, and they support just about everything, PHP CGI SQL ODBC and a live stats thing.

Although why I am writing this, is because of their support, I had my site with them for 3 years, and it was only down twice. TWICE, (how many times have these other people's hosts had their site down?), and when it was down, i'd send support an email, and within 1 hour, I would have a detailed, practical, and easy to understand answer. They would call if it was too technical aswell.

if you want good advice, then TAKE IT. Use M6.net, and don't listen to cheap people who pay peanuts, and get monkeys!

Wow, so many problems, so many e-mails, so much down time - M6.net was truly the worst hosting provider I have ever experienced.

I opened my account in July, 2002 and every since the beginning have had problems: after creating my account I could not log into my MS SQL database even though I had set it up online. Evidently, a technical support person does this for you - it is not automated. On July 25, 2002, my database was down for an entire day - the unprofessional staff at M6.net didn't even bother to send a curtsey e-mail informing clients the problem and an estimate of when it would be back up. I lost an entire day of traffic because of this (about 2500 unique visitors). Then, on July 27, 2002, ASP was extremely slow - the support staff actually admitted to running their own ASP scripts to check for certain performance characteristics which in return caused the slowing of the site!!! Can you believe that?? They caused my anger and my site to run extremely slow! Between that day and the middle of August, 2002 my site was down periodically on and off (for about 1/2 - 1 hour every other day).

On August 20 the entire server on which my site was hosted went down completely! They responded by saying the problem was most likely a reboot - can you believe this - they actually restarted the server without notifying any paying clients! Thieves! Criminals they are! Then, on August 29, again - MS SQL Server database was doewn. Then, on September 6 my stats were not working - they claimed it was due to high CPU utilization caused by site - even though my sites traffic had not increased to exagerated levels - my stats did NOT work again untill weeks later.

And on and on I could go on! I defenitely DO NOT recommend m6.net if you want a production site up and running - I will create a webiste dedicated and promoted to teach the truth to Internet users about M6.net!

I am now singed up with Superb.net - much better!

I am here researching hosting svcs in order to replace M6.net. Problems - wow, where to begin... It takes numerous emails to explain the simplest problem. There were times when I escalated to the Parent Company, GloPro, just to get someone to pay attention. Wonderful self-help control panel - but when parts don't work and you need a human - forget it. Extremely common to have email fail. Almost impossible to do FTP of large files. In conclusion, this service looks great on paper - and if the up-time was there, then a pro who can handle all aspects thru the control panel would love it. But no joy. It is just a poor service, no matter how great the features and prices look. I'm OUTTA here!

I signed up to be billed by the year, and they charged me the "Yearly" fee, and then began charging me the monthly fee as well! After six emails to billing and two weeks, I finally got a response.  Their phone listed on the website is disconnected...  Downtime wasn't bad when I first started, but its beginning to become a daily thing now.  Also, mail servers have been very unresponsive lately.  If they want to contact me, do so at the hotmail address I have provided.

The setup process on the web did not work. I could not access the admin page of my site.

I emailed them to cancel my account and return all my money and they said they do not show where I cancelled my account. I could not cancel on the web because my site never got setup.

They even charged me for a month of service when the account didn't work. I emailed and even called them to return my money and they said they would. This has been over a month now and still nothing. Everytime I talk to them they say they will return the money but still nothing is returned.

They are very unprofessional. They say they do not return the setup fees. How can you deny returning the setup fees when the setup didn't work in the first place.

Signed up due to thier attractive web host packages, Actually was quite well at first. But for whatever reason, reliability has taken a downslide with email and ftp (serious) issues cropping up. Been my luck of course these always happen in the most important times of when I keep updating...makes me wonder how often more troubles go sight unseen!
M6.net representative's response:

Dear Richard,

I have gone through your support queries. From what I read, the only email problems you had was the fact that you lost all your passwords. You then wanted our support to change your passwords and they did so.

The one and only ftp problem you had was due to the fact that we ran out of space. The log files on the server was taking up too much space. This problem was fixed by our support staff straight away.

I think it is unfair that you actually mentioned that you had email problems. You forgot your passwords and our support staff then changed them for you.

very unreliable host. had FTP problems often, but support team
did not solve the problem. my site was often down even though I did not change its contents.
M6.net representative's Sanjay response:

Dear whoever you are,

Its hard to respond to your post because I am not sure who you are and cannot check any details. You mentioned that you have been with us for more then 3 months and there must be a good reason that you stayed that long with us. Also you were with us at least 1 year before... and reviewing us now? You know 1 year is long-enough period for a company to develop, improve… and your current review, on a basis of past experience long ago, sounds unfair (to me at least as a normal person). Specially putting review without any identity. Hope you don’t have any personal intentions against us :)

All the best.

I was unable to get them to register my domain name, and I was unable to upload any files into a directory where I they could be viewed by the public.  Furthermore, since I have misplaced the little 4 digit Customer ID they give you, I am unable to cancel my service with them. :(
M6.net representative's response:

Please contact sales@m6.net and you will be able to get your customer ID. I am sorry but we cannot cancel an account on anyone’s request without any validation.

We offer domain registration service at cost-to-cost basis as an added service to our customers. That’s why the registration service is restricted to our existing customers. We register these domains from third party and domain registration is as simple as filling a form. I asked our domain registration department to inform me if they faced any problem with particular domain name and we faced trouble with clients who asked us to register a domain name which were already registered and recently expired and / or were under some kind of disputes.

The problem regarding uploading files… I can’t trust that our support team failed to offer you support for the problem you have mentioned. I am in support and even I can help you out with this problem. Anyone in our company can give you the solution to this problem… because this is not a problem but a feature we use to keep our clients data/file safe and helps us to offer multiple websites hosting under same account.

Finally you should pos this type of review publicly and not as an anonymous post. And you should have contacted us via email or fax before coming to these types of review boards. Anyway contact me and get your ID and we will cancel the account, no problem with that.
