I've hosted this site with Powweb for over a year now, and I've noticed significant increases in down time over the last three months. As of this writing, my primary site has been down for 20 hours, and although DNS and FTP access were restored 15 hours ago, my web site files have completely disappeared. My root directory is completely empty. I am not amused, nor are the clients whose portfolios I host.
I got a message from their customer support around 5 hours into this outage that "there was a problem with your DNS," that they'd corrected it and I'd be back within 6 hours. Wrong! And what they don't realize, apparently, is that I administer my own DNS records. I've sent three messages now asking that my files be restored, and have yet to receive a response to any of them (except the form "message received" response).
Although the form messages promises a reply within 24 hours, I've frequently had to wait longer than that. Unfortunately, this is becoming a more and more frequent occurrence. I probably won't be with them much longer, and I'll probably take my other site, www.flashquake.org with me when I go.
I feel badly now, because I've recommended them to other people (and not for the referral bonus), and so far one of them has complained to me. It's only a matter of time before the other ones do too.
