I'm really very surprised to see a negative review of ThePrimeHost. This is the third or fourth hosting company I have dealt with, and of all of them, ThePrimeHost offers the best service (quick turnaround and very helpful) of all of them. After a 3 month initial trial, we now host over 30 domains with ThePrimeHost.
Even though I'm based in Australia and our timezones thus differ, I rarely have to wait more than 3-4 hours for a response, and often hear back within minutes. I've been kept waiting for days by other companies, if I've ever heard back at all.
To give some background to this, I have some 25 years of Unix admin experience (I teach it professionally) and consulting for larger companies; plus some experience in IT for small companies.
For small to medium companies I couldn't recommend ThePrimeHost highly enough,

Signed up with these guys because of the value of the package they offered me; multiple domain hosting, POP3 email, FTP, etc. Signed up the first domain and it was no problem. The second domain wasn't nearly as easy. I emailed Darrell Buckhaults 5 times and CALLED them only to NOT receive a reply. When I emailed them a final time through their website, I made a demand that they either provide me with the username and password or I would contest the monthly fee. Only then, did I receive three unbelievable emails from them cancelling my account. Never have I EVER been so poorly treated in my life; especially by someone in the same industry! SHAME ON THE PRIMEHOST! (Oh yaeh, and their site is CONTINOUSLY down... like right now!)

We have several hundred happy end users that were intelligent enough to figure out how to run the CPanel / WHM system. We made every attempt to assist you but in the end do to your treatment of the staff, your account was canceled and your money refunded. Please see our forums if you would like proof of our customer satisfaction.

Good, cheap host. They are still small but very professional. very responsive.
