I used to recommend this host highly and have referred many people there.

Then, out of the blue, while my site was running along at a pace consistent with how it had been running continuously for two months without complaint from VO, the account was suspended WITHOUT notice.  My users were cut off ("all" 200 of them) knowingly by VO without giving me any opportunity to prevent it before the fact.

I was and had always been well within all resource limits for my shared account.  The reasons given were entirely based on "hits" (without any demonstrated knowledge that this is an unfair and less than accurate way to measure resource usage).  Even "hits" were not out of the realm of reason (they were working out to about 1 million per month, not a lot considering, even if you assume the count is accurate, every single image and other item on a page counts as a hit).

My site was turned back on and no apology has been offered by VO.

It is obvious from their actions (and follow-up correspondence) that their strategy is to continue to enjoy the revenue from shared accounts but for any site with even a reasonable amount of traffic to use coercion tactics to force them into a VPS account (5 times as expensive) that they just don't need.

They have become like a bank.  They like the revenue from smaller accounts, but they don't mind treating such individual customers like dirt.
