I must say I had a site with these folks for almost a year.  It began well, then they changed stuff.  They didn't notify you of maitenance, instead claiming the customer was responsible to check the your-site forum for outage info.  They claim emailing customers to notify them of problems was too much of a hassle.  I admit the price was good, but the service really sucked! When I would complain on the member's forum, I would get ridicule and condemnation not only from the other users, but from the your-site stall as well.  When everything came to a head several months ago, several customers voiced their displeasure, including myself, and were banned from using the forums! Upon termination of my account, I was guaranteed I would get a pro-rated refund for my remaining time, and I have yet to get anything, and your-site ignores my emails to them about it.  Their customer support sucks.. it can take days to get a simple response, and usually it isn't what you asked about in the first place.  They say their up-time is at 99%, but this isn't true.. during my stint I am lucky if my site was totally available for 80%... when they had their problems, if they had simply communicated with their customers they would have gone a long way in keeping them.. but they ignore them, berate them and treat them poorly... which is why I left.  I would not refer anyone to this web host! STAY AWAY.

One day in June 2003, I found that my web site hosted by Your-Site was not working, neither was I getting any email. I run a small business and rely on email to get client work orders that have to be filled in two days. Since the problems with web hosting have occurred consistently (e.g. 2 days ago, the Frontpage extensions were not working), I considered this normal and gave them a few hours to fix the problem.

After a few hours, the matter had not been resolved so I sent them an email. Sure enough after an hour I heard back from them and the email said, “Your account has been terminated”. I was shocked since there was no communication to me either by email or phone before my account was terminated. I called their support number and got hold of Mr. Derek who (seemingly proudly) announced that it was he who had terminated my account. I asked him the reason why this was done. He mentioned that I had charged back the renewal fees. I told him it was a mistake and there had been no chargeback authorized by me to my credit card company. He mentioned that was between me and my credit card company and therefore it was my problem.

I called the credit card company and they informed me that there was not even a charge appearing on my statement (for the past 6 months) so obviously there could be no charge back. I later found out that Your-site has the billing done by another company. Given them the benefit of doubt I called them back asking them to reactivate my account. They said they can’t do it till I pay them. I agreed to do so. They demanded the renewal charge, $25 chargeback fee, and $25 for re-activation fee (now remember, none of this was my fault). I was willing to pay them to get my web site back up and my email restored since I was losing business.

Guess what? They informed me that I would have to build the site from scratch since they don’t restore information for disabled accounts (I spoke to Shawn this time). This means my entire website was gone!!! (I did have an old backup kept locally in case of unforeseen circumstances such as this) but more importantly since all my email was kept on the server, I LOST ALL EMAIL OF THE PAST 6 MONTHS (Yes, I am such a dummy – I should have backed up my email also!

Their support site is filled with responses that be-little beginning users, the help staff is awful because the attitude of the staff is “you don’t know crap”

Please do yourself a favor and learn from MY mistakes. Avoid YOUR-Site at ALL COSTS. They appear to be amateurs at this. Take your business elsewhere.

The price is really good, but they have this bad habit of performing unannounced maintenance. They will mention it on the company's UBB, but why should I have to contact them to find out what's wrong, when they could simply drop me an email saying "POP servers will be out of service from..."?

Luckily I'm not a kind of person in need of a working customer support thus I can't rate it.  Now the facts I've experienced: They switched off my POP3 catch-all account when they did some kind of software change and I had to noticed it a few weeks later by wondering about not getting mail to some of my adresses. C'mon, it can't be that difficult to write a script that properly migrates ALL settings. And today their mailserver had a few hours outage again (mail outages happen occasionally). Their most slable technical asset seems to be their webserver. I reached my website whenever I tried. From a geek's point of view I can say just: there are more stable alternatives for the same amount of bucks.

Got this site for a friend who is technically impaired - everything went well; I needed to be away for a month - in that time, they changed all email passwords; and the procedure they give you to access your account does not work.  Customer support was automated for the first 18 emails I sent them, when a human finally contacted me, the procedure they gave me did not work.  I will be talking to my friend about switching hosting; as this is unacceptable.

A year ago your-site was decent - actually pretty good for $5/month.

Today the website is very slow and often unavailable, as is the E-mail.  It is to the point that I am embarrassed about my website's unreliability.

Also, they have their SSH configured improperly, denying the use of cron jobs for which they advertise.

Current customer, but not for long.  Website uptime is excellent but e-mail servers are horrible.  Intermittent e-mail downtime and often several hours delay in receiving mail.  Tech support by e-mail often misses the point of your inquiry, and is exasperating enough to necessitate calling long distance just to avoid the hassle.

This is truly the worst experience I have ever had with a web hosting company. From day one I had e-mail problems with them. It was slow getting mail, sometimes taking two minutes. When they finally announced that they were upgrading the mail server, they decided to change everyones password! They claimed that they sent out an e-mail to everyone giving them their new passwords, but I never received it. I wrote many e-mails to tech support but only received automated responses. They also took their phone off the hook. I was never able to get through. Finally Someone from the company read a post I made on their help message board and e-mail was restored. I have no Idea how many e-mails were lost during that two week period. Last Month, they upgraded the mail software and without warning, they turned off my catch-all feature. Again they claimed that they sent me an email about it. For three weeks, No one was able to send me email and I had no idea! I can't stress enough...STAY AWAY!!!! This "company" has gone from bad to worse in the year that I have spent with them. Tommorow, I am switching and can't wait. You get what you pay for. STAY AWAY

Out of 3 hosting services I've dealt with, this one has been the worst. I had problems from the very beginning with them. I signed up with them in May of 2002, and am now trying to end my account with them.
First was that it took about a week longer than they said it would to set up my account. Then I realized that their customer service pretty much was completely automated. I think I got one email back from an actual human, out of the many I sent them. Then my email with them almost never worked, and I gave up on that "feature" pretty quickly, because I was mainly concerned with my site.
After a few months, FTP stopped working well. It would log me in, but not list my files. It would also just kick me off in the middle of uploading. I know this wasn't a problem on my end, since I used FTP with a different site that wasn't hosted by them, and it worked perfectly. Since about a month or so ago, FTP stopped working completely. It just logs me in, and never lists the files.
Another thing that bothered me is that there was no control pannel what-so-ever. I went to their forum and asked once if there was one anywhere, and they pretty much thought I was silly for asking for one... very strange.
And the last annoyance from them is that they seem to have recently disabled my posting privlages to their forum. I had been able to post a few months ago, but when I tried to just today, it said I wasn't allowed to, and that the admin may have disabled that part of the site from me. I don't know an exact reason for this, except maybe that I posted on my site that I moved my site to somewhere else because I was "not happy with my current hosting service" (exact words). I didn't say anything about who they are or why I was unhappy, so there was no personal attack on them. I don't know if this was the reason for them disabling my posting, but the two events seem to have happened too close together for that to be just a coincidence. And if what I said happens to be the reason for me not being able to post to their forums, I personally feel that that's very rude of them to do. They should care about fixing problems rather than just hiding them.
Those are all of the major problems I had with them. There were also a few minor ones, but I don't think I need to go into those.

The only good thing about Your-Site was their uptime. I never noticed my actual site being down, just the FTP. I was pleased with this, but all of their problems really overshadowed this one good thing about them.

Overall, you do get what you pay for with them. I did expect them to be much more better than this, but it is cheap hosting. And while reading other reviews, I found that one of the owners of the company passed away, so it seems understandable for them to have problems. I just wish that they would either close the company or give it to someone else if they are unable to handle it.

I have seen these admins make the most brain-dead decisions.  For example, in Jan 03 they decided to turn off catch-all email aliases.  Not _disable_ catch-all, the feature is still available, but go through all the existing accounts and TURN CATCH-ALL OFF! One, this forced me to go in and manually turn catch-all back on, despite the fact that I'd been using it for 6 months.  Secondly, I lost five days of email because your-site DIDN'T TELL ANYONE THEY WERE MAKING THIS CHANGE! They claim to have sent emails about the change, but I never got one.

This type of idiotic move is indicative of a complete lack of respect for customers.  There's absolutely NO GOOD REASON to mess with your existing customer's settings, especially when it will cause them to LOSE MAIL.  I can't believe how incompetent the staff has become.  BTW, I've used a fake name/domain for fear of retribution.  Rest assured I am switching hosts ASAP.

I had all kinds of trouble with the billing end of things with YS.  The double billed me and then billed me for renewel but never processed it so my site was down for a full week trying to get it straightend out.

The only reason for not displaying my name/site, is because these are truly immature and vindictive people who can make my "web" life difficult until the "pre-paid agreement" runs out. This company was really going places they consistenly received high ratings on the boards. Tragically, the owner of the company died unexpectedly, and those left behind have dropped the ball.  I cannot state whether their problems are due to the fact that they colocated their sites somehwere else, and have no real control over the servers - or- they are simply overwhelmed.  But the simple fact of the matter is that in the 7 months that they've hosted my site, there hasn't been one single month that was problem free.  Within one month of signing up, they changed their email.  That service fails regularly at least once a week.  They changed their ftp process and servers.  That's been fraught with problems for over two months.  The mailing lists have never worked. There is no control panel.  And worst of all- their technical support, both on the boards and by phone, are hostile, combative, defensive. and poor at solving problems. Their incecsent "tweaking" of the systems results in major inconveniences.  If you're simply hosting a personal site and one mail address - and if it doesn't matter that their system isn't undergoing still another "upgrade" when you have time to work, then your-site.com will do.  But, if you're looking for reliablilty, keep looking. A good deal is only good if it works!

I had a site with your-site.com for about a year and a half.  Two major problems.

1 - The email would often go down.  Sometimes this would be announced before hand and sometimes it wouldnt.  Sometimes they would say the system is going down due to upgrades, but the customers never benefitted from these upgrades, nor did their price go down or were the costumers compensated in any other way for the system outtages.

2 - the Second major problem I had with them was they did not/would not inform me via email about my website account.  I wanted the bill sent to my webmaster email account and they wouldnt do it. 

The result of this was my site went down for a few days because I didnt know the payment was due.  I ended up losing about $2400 in business generated from my site.  In the end I dropped them and went with a more reliable company.

Customer service was poor and difficult to reach.

The company I went with was the over priced hostway.com.

The owner died, then the whole service went to hell. If you want some reasonable approximation of the Your-Site experience, just stay at home and pull your eye out with a fork. My email would go out for weeks at a time, and support would never respond. But DON'T BELEIVE ME! Just go to their site, and TRY to contact support at the phone number - you'll get the answering machine in the studio apartment that this outfit runs out of.

I'm sorry, but they do not provide high uptimes, unless you consider not being able to get to your E-mail at least twice a week acceptable.

The uptime is actually pretty good.
But if it goes down, don't expect a response from support@..
But this part really sucks: my car was stolen, with credit cards in it.
I cancelled all cards, forgot to tell these guys. They pulled my site for non payment, never tried to contact me. Now I can't even change my DNS, because the e-mail on this domain is my ID at Verisign, and of course this e-mail is down. If they did that on purpose that's pretty nasty.

When I started with Your-Site I was thrilled – they were speedy, cheap, everything worked well, and their support was second to none.  Then the owner died unexpectedly, and everything went downhill very rapidly.  I waited for things to level out, and they did somewhat, but the performance and support are still not acceptable.  Mailing lists that once work broke badly, and it took them nearly a month to get them back up and running again.  They still don’t work correctly. 

I had recommended them to several friends shortly after I signed up with them.  Now I’m here looking for a different place to host my sites.

Well, now. There have been problems--as you read in the other reviews. I signed up around April (I believe)and I stumbled right into their server problems. BUT: All the bugs were fixed, my e-mail is fast, and I haven't had a single problem for the last three months. I'm based in Germany and when I forward something from a Yahoo account to my Y-S e-mail address, it's in my inbox within 60 seconds. My Web site is always up. They're good. And they should be applauded for their service.

E-mail is always a problem. Often have to check several times just to get through. Also ISP has a spam problem, often get blocked by spam-cop because of someone else on server

Ok, I see that lots of people got PO'ed at your-site after the owner died suddenly. In all fairness, it was impossible to get ahold of them at that time, their email service croaked (why were they running DMail anyhow?), in short the caca hit the fan.  But I just had a problem with connecting to them today, so I went to their homepage, got the number, called, got a live (helpful) person immediately. In short, some things just can't be helped... some can. After what they've gone through I think they're on the rebound.

Those who read my review, mind one thing, I work for a web hosting company and host my web site at Your-site.com . It is far better for the money, which I pay. Obviously you cannot expect customer service to come behind your back once you have some problem. But I get responses, where other hosting services never bother to respond. There was no downtime of my server. Sometimes E-mail may go slow or MySQL, but its ultimately fast after maintanance. To an extent I can say "IT IS WHAT YOU PAY THAT BOTHERS YOU EXCELLENT SERVICE. FOR THE MONEY YOU PAY TO YOUR-SITE, THEY GIVE THE SERVICE YOU DESERVER", else all bad reviews are BULL-SHIT.

Customer service was horrible; they kept me waiting long distance twice (no 800 number) until I finally had to hang up.  Am now being harrassed with "thank you for your order" emails after going around in circles cancelling the account. I should never have filled out their order cancellation form.

They seem to be ok now. Before and after the death of the owner, I never had problems. During that time I contemplated moving on. Glad I didn't. Everything as good as before.

I've been with your-site a couple years. My experiences have been positive.

As stated previously, Your-Site's owner died and there was a period there where there was no phone contact and the email servers took way too long to download emails. They had serious problems for about 3 months there.

HOWEVER, it appears they have things in order with a new email server and I've contacted them by phone for questions a few times over the last few months since they put up the new phone number. I pretty much always get through to them and they've always been very helpful. My prior experiences with a previous company was much worse than the 3 month ordeal that went on with your-site after their owner died. Some people could cut the company a break on that aspect. Sounds like most just cut and run without inquiring what was at the root of the problem.

Your-Site is one of the best value hosts around.  You get a wealth of features for only $5 per month that include MySQL and PHP.  They also provide a members forum as a place to ask for (or offer) help.

It is next to impossible to get a response from these people; customer support is practically non-existent! The owner recently died, so some disruption is expected, but this company is not recovering! Customers like me are literally on their own---and I need help!

They suck! They have virtually no tech support and my site loads extremely slow. I'm going to cancel ASAP and if I forgoe the annual fee so be it - it's not worth losing sales. Stay away from these guys.

One thing that should be stated here is that the founder of your-site recently died. This has left his wife with quite a lot to handle. I think this unexpected event is the reason for the spotty service that others are reporting.

I have never had any problems with this host. I hardly ever have had the need for support, but they were quite helpful when I set up the account.

I just got an e-mail from them stating that they will be switching over their mail server to a new, more powerful software called Postfix, which will supposedly resolve the e-mail problems.

My one criticism is that they charge almost $4 extra for one MySQL database, which I feel is a bit pricey these days.

I ended up being rejected from using their service because I didn't update my credit card expiration date.  Instead of contacting me they ended up deleting all of my content and banning me from using their service.

When I first activated my account with Your-Site in October 2001, the tech support was of no use, but the hosting was GREAT. Very fast, very reliable, solid.

Since then, however, their email is HORRIBLE...1-3 mins just to authenticate to see if you have new email -- this is if you don't receive an error too many users. FTP server drops CONSTANTLY during transfers, and pages are very slow...just surf to their website and watch how slowly it comes up. That will tell all.

Furthermore, their customer "service" is a total joke. They seem to have 2 people, who couldn't care any less about the problems. They say they are working on rolling out resolution to the mail problem, but cannot say when they expect it to be ready.

STAY AWAY - you have been warned!! I have 5 mos left of hosting on my 1-year pre-paid service, and I am searching for a new provider. I will throw away the $ I am going to lose...its just too horrible of service.

Used to be AWESOME service...couldnt have been happier.

However, over the past 2 mos, the service has become horrible. Simply surf to www.your-site.com and watch how long it takes for THEIR site to load. Their mailservers have become overloaded, and are badly in need of an upgrade. Word fromt heir support department is no sooner than 3 mos, likely longer. Authentication on their mailservers currently takes approximately 90 seconds!!! Outlook Express times out before it authenticates, and the same occurs when telnetting in and manually retrieving email.

My annual pre-paid plan ends in about 3-4 mos and I am moving at that time, and may throw away money to move before (which is why I am here - to look at other options).

They failed to record my payment on my site.  They stopped hosting my site, deleted my files and gave me a site to go to manage my site (presumably with a new host) and the password they gave me will not work.  Customer service lists a phone number that is ALWAYS busy.  I have in over 50 attempts not gotten a ring even after hours.  They have no response even when I email them proof that they cashed my check.

Your-site is a good place to park your stuff if you're relying static pages with nothing fancy going on. Their customer support is limited to e-mail, and don't expect to get anything more than the pithy 1 or 2-lines reponses. If you don't get that most of the time you'll get some sort of generic copy-and-paste response from them that has nothing to do with your question! And they don't have a phone number that works, apparently (at least not one that they're brave enough to put in their .sig file or Web site).

It's cheap and a good deal for the money, but don't expect anything more than what I outlined above.

For small to medium sized HTML & PHP websites, your-site.com provides a lot of service for $5/month.  I moved to your-site.com from prohosting.com, to save money.  I am thrilled that I have telnet access for debugging CGIs. That is a real plus for me.  I haven't had problems with the service, but I don't require much customer support.

We've had our site hosted with these folks for nearly a year now, and for the first several months they were excellent all around.

However, earlier this year FTP access and web serving became spotty (e.g. a page will be displayed correctly on one visit, and fail to include a few graphics the next; FTP server giving 'too many users' errors at login).  These were not significant until late February, and still are not terrible, but appear to be a trend.

Last month we attempted to open a second account with them; their registration CGI failed repeatedly over the course of several days.  The receptionist on the phone sounded nervous and was evasive; noone was available to help us set up a new account.  Days later the call was returned.

Needless to say, the new account was not placed with them and when the prepaid year is up on the existing account, it too will be off to a new host.

I like this host: very good speed and uptime.  When I needed support they were nice and fixed my problems.  I'd go with them for my new site too but they only have a single small plan.

Your-site.com does have very good servers and access.  My only technical problem started today when there seems to be some problems with their email server for my domain (err: Sorry, only 235 channels available, try again).

However, their customer service leaves a lot to be wishing for.  They boost an "unbelievable support", well, it is poor to say the least.

Their phone support/sales line is either busy or you get kicked into an answering service that tells you flat out, we don't take messages. 

If you are looking for fast servers, you may want to consider these guys.  If you are looking for someone that values your business and is there when you need them, just look elsewhere.
