I've hosted about a dozen sites with 2MHost.com over the past year. I do volunteer web development for several non-profit groups that have no technology budgets, so when I discovered 2M's $1.50/month hosting plans, I figured it couldn't hurt to give them a try for some of these sites.

When I found them, I thought 2M's list of features were impressive and the add-ons reasonably priced. CPanel and your own SMTP server are some of the features I liked, though nowadays, pretty much everybody offers those and more. Unfortunately, 2M's servers have been and continue to be unnreasonably flakey and are down far too often. Their service is mediocre at best. CPanel has never seemed to work quite right. Mail servers are down constantly, and you're lucky if you can download all your mail on the first try on any given morning. I recently found that several mail servers block mail sent from my SMTP server at 2MHost, as 2M mail servers have been blacklisted for rampant spamming. My sites seem to go down a least a couple times a month, and those are just the times I look at them, which isn't often. Just today, I found my FTP and CPanel access had been blocked. When I wrote to customer service (they only offer email support), they asked for my username and password--twice. They're the ones that assigned both, so I don't understand why they don't have them on file, or why they stopped working at all. My trouble ticket was closed without a response. Almost a full day later, I still can't get in, and to make matters worse, my access to their trouble-ticket system just got blocked too. With each experience, they seem to get more and more hopeless.

To their credit, they do seem to genuinely want to help, and they've always been courteous. They've helped me out with some issues that I didn't expect help with on such cheap hosting accounts. But they must be massively understaffed and highly disorganized, or something like that. You can't beat the price. But for me, it's not been worth the price for this amount of frustration.

2M, please get your act together. I wouldn't mind paying four times as much if only I could get service I could rely on. But in the meantime, I'm taking my business elsewhere.
