I've been using digihosters now for several months to host my domain and have been quite pleased with their service. I pay $9.95 a month and get 1 GB of disk space, 10 GB of network traffic a month, and SSH access to a machine where I can do essentially whatever I want in a sandboxed execution environment. Their support staff is friendly and responsive to email, even at ungodly hours of the night. The only two issues I've had are (1) that the sandboxed environment is very limited (i.e., only a very limited set of tools are available) and (2) that usernames have @ characters in them which require that you hack scp and recompile it to prevent scp from getting confused into thinking that part of the username is the host you're trying to connect to. One way they could improve on (1) might be to use sandboxed environments based on vservers and use their primitive "copy-on-write" mechanism. This would allow users to have access to a wide range of tools while at the same time not wasting disk space since the majority of the files being shared will be binaries that typically are not modified.
