I've been hosting sites online since 1998, and have been with a few different hosts over that time.

I signed up with Zoom hosting in January 2003 with a reseller account because my previous reseller hosting company couldn't provide certain perl modules that I needed.  Zoom hosting listed the fact they had the main ones I needed on their FAQ page, and their pricing for a reseller account was reasonable for the amount of disk space and bandwidth they gave.

For two months things were OK.  I did notice that if I emailed them with a support query it usually took more than 24 hours to get a reply, but the support issues I logged weren't big things so I figured they treated them as low priority and could understand that.

Then March 9th they had some downtime for a day or so.  They finally got back to me about it 2 days later and said it was a denial of service attack.  Well that happens, so I accepted it.

March 22nd, down again.  This time for most of a weekend.  Again, they were real slow to respond to the emails about this.

April 28th - Down again, this time it was totally down for 36 - 48 hours, and when it did come back up, all the virtual directory names had changed so none of the scripts worked.  They didn't tell me ANYTHING.  I found out myself after running perldiver on all my sites.

So I changed all my scripts to reflect this and after about 4 days had most of my sites working again - although I still had heard nothing from zoom.

But... Some sites I could not get working because a lot of perl modules were now missing.  I emailed them and they reinstalled some of them, but 3 weeks later, LWP still had not been reinstalled and they had quit replying to any of my emails.

So I began moving my sites to another host.  By this time as a reseller I was losing business.

So I cancelled my subscription, but was paid up until the end of May.

Then May 21st, while moving some files about (and I still had one site hosted with them), they closed my account and sent me a stroppy email telling me "get off our servers".

I pointed out I was paid up until the end of the month.  They didn't reply.

So I am now filing complaints with PayPal (who i paid through) and the BBB.

When I emailed Zoom with my complaint BEFORE moving my sites and told them I was unhappy and planned to move my sites, I expected maybe an apology, possibly some compensation (free hosting to make up for downtime, etc).  Instead I got an email that said "So be it."

Zoom took all their phone numbers off their support page and out of their domain record.  The only way to contact them is by email, and they usually take a LONG time to reply... that is IF they reply.

I've had bad experiences with hosting companies before, but all them at least tried to make things right.  Zoom just don't care.  If you're not happy and you tell them - they just react as if its all your fault and not theirs.
