Since my first site, I've added half a dozen others to the same account, all on the same machine. The vast majority of outages have occurred in service windows of less than 30 minutes, including a major upgrade of the system board and a major upgrade of the hard drive.
A few times other users have abused resources and loads have risen into the 40s. The vast majority of the time the load is less than 0.5 I'm in the shell all the time. They have also been good about increasing allowances without changing rates.
The software environment is sane, patches are applied promptly, tools you expect to find are usually there. Other tools I've needed I was able to build myself.
I find the web interface clunky, but sufficient for the tasks I need to perform there. It would kill me not to have shell access. The web interface is no substitute for actually being there.
Tech support has usually been prompt enough (less than two days). Answers tend to be terse and not as informative as they could be if you don't have your bearings already.
Online documentation is somewhat thin and disorganized. It took me forever to figure out where they hid all the POP mailboxes that were part of my usage quota. I finally found them using the "find" program which I later discovered was a violation of my usage agreement (running find in directory trees not my own). Good thing they didn't rap me on my knuckles for that, I would have given them hell for not explaining the disk layout properly in the first place.
On several occasions I didn't find the documentation I needed on the pair site, but then later stumbled into it after trying to find external answers with Google. Their help index sucks.
Another issue not properly explained is how to chmod your directory tree to protect private files. I had some sensitive material in a directory protected by a .htaccess file only to discover that the other 400 users of the host machine could all read those contents locally (by default). This information should be presented more prominently within the tutorials section.
I give them an eight for service because I so rarely need it. The level of service they provide would be substandard if the system was flakey.
Bottom line: if you can work your way through a period of mild disorientation, the service is rock solid.
