After reading all the horror stories of webhosting, I was very cautious with my first purchase.  After lots of research, I decided to go with Lunarpages.  I am extremely happy with them! I have experienced VERY little down time, and their customer support seems pretty good (though I haven't had 1st hand experience).  Their price is outrageously low for the amount of bandwidth and space you get- they even upped it for no additional charge in the middle of my plan! If I need another plan, I'll definitely get it with Lunarpages!

I've been with lunarpages for almost a year now, and have never had a problem. As a newbie to setting up websites, I found their instructions very clear and straightforward. And talk about a deal! Overall I can't imagine what else someone could want in a hosting company. Thanks Lunarpages!

Excllent host, customer support is exceptional, although a bit slow but they did get the job done.  In my opinon best host for the money.  Only thing I would recommend to Lunarpages is that they increase thier bandwidth, site has been a bit slower lately, but not enough to become a problem

I just signed up yesterday so my name servers aren't even set up yet. However i still have access to all the features..... Lunar is the BEST hosting company i have delt with so far. I was just looking around the night before i joined up and happen to write lunar for info. It wasn't 2 mins before i had a reply! And then wrote back and forth with the staff member for 30 mins! I couldn't believe they would spend that much time with someone just shopping around. The staff member is Amy Armitage. Very very nice. She even wrote me back and told me goodnite when i said i was going to sleep!!! That has to be a first :wink:
As far as the features lunar has. Awsum! The only thing i am having just a little trouble with is getting used to the control panel and file manager. Not that anything at all is wrong with them. It is just that i am not used to something being so easy! I am used to having to do everything with an ftp program. Heck,, you don't even need an ftp program with lunars file manager. You can do just about anything with it. Even edit files or change permissions. I think i am here to stay along with my other 2 domains that i will be moving over here soon.

It seems like they are hosting more than 1000 sites per server. Also you can notice slower response some times. If your site uses little more resouce, they will suspend it immediately. Then you will not get proper response from support. You need to cry to up your site. It's very bad experiance.

You are going to get your money's worth. They really do have a speedy customer service. I do wish they had more hosting options. (the plans seem to jump from 7.95 to 22.95...)

The site has been a bit slow for the past 2 days (temporary?). Not sure why.  I will probably stay with them for the year-- they are easy to get along with. Their forums are a great way to get help.

Not recommended if you are not familiar with Chilisoft ASP.

I chose LunarPages because of this ratings site. I wanted a cheap host, that offered good support and was impressed by how fast the sites loaded, whose links I found in the reviews. I also checked the DNS entries and most reviewers were still with LP after several months.

My experience in moving my sites from my brother-in-law's server was pretty frustrating for the few days. Whether I called or e-mailed support, all I got was wasted time, it seemed like no one really read my problem description. Without going into lots of excrutiating detail (i.e. ranting), I'll summarize. Note that my site is dynamic, using php/mySQL, but though I'm a programmer/IT pro, I only know enough php & mySQL to do what the basic things I need my site to do.

Biggest problem I faced, was that LP upgraded their ControlPanel, but it doesn't work with phpMyAdmin, so I couldn't use phpMyAdmin to troubleshoot why none of my php/mySQL worked after the move.

I had to solve most of the problems myself, and did so after stumbling on these solutions:
1) don't open the Control panel using their links. You have to manually enter the URL and add a nonstandard port command, to use port 2082 (e.g servername.lunarpages.com:2082). Alternatively, you can have them set your ControlPanel to the "X" theme. If you don't do this, phpMySQL may or may not load, and if it does, no part of it will work.

2) Even then, only part of phpMySQL works. You can't run any maual queries. However, if you open the phpMySQL "in a new window" and get it out of the ControlPanel frames, it works fine. The "X" theme solves this issue also.

3) I didn't know how to best transfer the files from the old host. After several phone calls and e-mails, I finally got someone who knew anything about phpMySQL and even then I got the information I needed when something he said led me to the truth. I had only had experience uploading data from .csv files, and had never downloaded data. Turns out that the .sql files that you can export, are contrary to intuition, not binaries, but are text files, and they contain SQL statements to rebuild a database and INSERT the data. So uploading is just a matter of telling phpMySQL to run the queries found in the exported .sql file.

4) But my php/mySQL still wouldn't work. After two days, I finally was able to get phpMySQL to run, so I started debugging. I got lucky and stumbled on the solution in a clue left by a user comment in the php documentation online. Turns out when I downloaded the files to my Windows station and then uploaded them to LP, using wsFTP client, that the Unix line endings (n) were replaced with Windows line endings CR>LF>. php doesn't like code with Windows line endings and acts erratically, in this case, the queries don't work.

5) The other major problem was caused by not knowing how the mechanics of the add-on domains worked until after I used the feature. (For $2.50/mo/domain, you can ?two? additional websites with their own domain names, from the one LP account). When you activate this feature using the ControlPanel, the script creates folders/directories in the public-html directory, named the same as the domain names you specify. Unfortunately, I had already uploaded my files from the other site, which happened to include directories with these same names, and in the same place, *BUT* the case was different, so geek-brained Linux created a separate set of directories. However, my ftp client would only see the ones that I uploaded, and the server wouldn't let my ftp client delete those, confusing them with the system directories for the add-on domains. Only took a day to get support to clue me in to a FileManager function on the ControlPanel that did allow me to see both sets and to delete the ones I uploaded.

6) I also thought that my mail() function in the php code wasn't working, but my first test was flawed.

Despite these frustrations, I intend to stick out the first three months. Support is no worse than the average tech company (in other words, usually an exercise in futility: still waiting for cBeyond and Cingular to explain why voice calls to Finland and AT&T cell phones don't handshake, neither side can hear the other, even though the call goes through). Here is how to get the best results:

Use all three options: 1)call, 2)start a ticket in the online support, and 3) post to the forums. When calling, if you don't get a tech who is helpful, hang up and call back. When calling, response time has varied from about 12 min. to 0 min. Online support and forums can be anything from half an hour to all day or none at all. Expect the tech to not listen carefully, and to give you any answer that they think will get rid of you. For example, when I complained that the phpMyAdmin pages were opening so slowly that the browser timed out, but that the plain HTML files in my account loaded very quickly, I got "we had network problems earilier, but they are fixed now" and "run a tracert to your server or domain" (I hadn't changed the DNS settings yet, so the domain tracert wouldn't have worked). After I discovered that the problem was their ControlPanel, then all the techs that were still talking to me suddenly knew all about the javascript bugs in the new ControlPanel. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk that up to the fact that they had just discovered it at the end of my problem resolution. It would be interesting to call in and see if the front line techs would handle the same problem correctly this time.

We've gone through five hosting companies in the past 3 years and always ended up frustrated (red flags: ADDR and FeaturePrice - site always down, no customer service). Finally we found Lunarpages, although I was still skeptical. Results: Our site has never been down. When we call, we immediately speak to a real human being who is extremely helpful. When we email questions, we receive a response within the hour. Free customer support is unfortunately rare, but Lunar Pages does it and does it well. Lots of space for a great price. I was very jaded about hosting companies, but I am happy to say that Lunarpages really is a solid service. Now we use them for our other sites and client sites, and they all run just as smoothly.

Having been with Feature Price for about a year, I decided it was time for a change. I chose Lunarpages and have totally happy with their services. The people at LunarPages were very helpful when I called to ask them about their company, what servers they use, and plan details.  Response was fast during signup and setup.  They have added 3 additional servers since I joined them which shows that they don't run their servers to their limit.

I started off with LunarPages as a backup for our main company web site. It went well, so I set up a non-profit org web site I maintain there. That went very well too. So I just moved my personal web site to Lunar Pages.

Support has been very fast, coopertive, responsive and effective. Answers are clear and to the point. At our request, they set up an "A" record for an off-site sub-domain and again they changed it for us when our ISP changed the IP address--just an example of how they are helpful and responsive to our individual needs. I haven't had any complaints with the service.

The control panel is downright fun to use. There are gee-whiz features, like forums, that you can set up effortlessly. And to top it all off, they increased the disk space on our plan for free.

After 6 months, I'm doing ok so far.

I've been with them for almost a year now, and will certainly renew. Compared to some other hosts for a similar price, they seemed to have good ratings, and I needed a host that did ASP, CGI, and MySQL.  Never been down that I've noticed, and seems to load pages pretty darn fast.  Lots of room for files.

Only two minor, minor irritations, that were probably just mis-communications.  First was getting ASP enabled.  I wasn't aware that I needed to have ASP enabled (I thought it was just part of the plan).  So I had it enabled, but then didn't use it for a long time, so never checked to see if it really was enabled; when I went to use it, it wasn't enabled.  However, their website is quite clear now about it costing an extra $1.00 per month.  What I'm guessing happened was that they noticed I wasn't using it, and that they hadn't charged me for it, so they just disabled it again rather than try to charge me.  Which seems pretty reasonable of them, if a bit confusing to me.  Second confusion was over having access to a shell; there was an SSH client on the control panel, but it didn't work.  When I called, they said no shell for security reasons, which again makes sense, but might have been less confusing to me if they didn't have a feature that appeared to be available but wasn't.

Well, that sounds more negative than I meant it to be -- on the plus side customer service on the phone has been great, and I've hardly needed it (only needed it for stuff that might have been due to my confusion above re: ASP and a shell).  Email support has been fast as well -- they got back to me in less than 1/2 hour!

Random exclamation points would end up in my PHP output, making my pages completely worthless (the code works fine on other servers).  Email support completely ignored my inquiries regarding this, so I canceled.  There is much hype about this company and their support.  I found it to be somewhat good when my questions were simple and straightforward, but when it really counts, they drop the ball.  Completely ignoring certain inquiries is a really bad business practice.

We do not drop the ball on our customers. More advanced programming questions are escalated. They will be answered. Even though they might require additional time to answer.

We use PHP 4.3.1 you getting random exclamation points is highly unlikely. Are you sure your script did no require a special php module? Our php is not different from other webhosting companies. In fact we offer less restrictive access to our php than many other hosts.

Having read the three negative reports (And I notice its ONLY 3 out of over 40)I was truly surprised there were even that many. Every aspect of Lunarpages service has been for me exceptional. Great customer relations. Speedy service. Any questions I've had have been answered promptly. They even have a Great Forum!! I dont know what planet the anonymous complaints came from but it wasn't in my opinion the same crew I am with !!!! Im guessing they must have come from the planet between Saturn and Neptune !!

I typically wouldn't post a review of a hosting company, but my experience was so bad that I felt the need to let others know.

Similar to what antoher review posted a few months ago, Lunarpages suspended my account without any warning because my site was using too much cpu. I understand that they need to protect the stability of their shared servers, but I got absolutely no warning from them about the suspension. How about a phone call or email asking me to fix things? Nothing. Not even an email saying: "We just took your site down, please call us to resolve the issue."

Instead I get angry emails from my customers telling me my site is down. Then when I call lunarpages, they are *very* unprofessional and basically treat me like craap. I stay calm during the conversation, even in light of getting *severe* attitude from the customer support representative. Then I propose, "How about if I take my site down, but just keep my email service (which wasn't creating any cpu problems)?" Their response was a curt: "We are permanently suspending your account. Your webpage files will be emailed to you." uuhhh...goodbye, I guess.

My advice to Lunarpages: instead of trolling messageboards like this and providing excuses for each negative review that is posted, put that energy instead into your customer service. Instead of spending the 5 minutes to respond to this post, spend that time instead on calling the next person whose account you are about to suspend, so a compromise can be worked out. They will apprecieate it. I hope you can raise your customer support standards at your company to the point where you feel that a call to a customer to work out an issue is preffered over an outright account suspension.

Before we suspend anyone, we will issue a number of warnings to the user. Unless the situation is severe.

Imagine yourself, if your website was down because of someone elses, would you not be complaining then? You would... There are hundreds of websites sharing the same server as yourself.

Our goal is to have maximum uptime for all of our clients. To have that we have to suspend access to users like yourself that abuse our service.

We only suspend websites for one reason only. If they abuse the resources on a machine. And donīt get me wrong, we are talking about users that uses an extremely large portion of the total resources on a server (90% or more of the total resources) at all times.

About one user out of a thousand abuse our service, and we deal with them in a prompt manner. To minimize their abusive impact on the server they are on we will be forced to temporarily suspend them.

If you are asked to leave our service because of the abuse. We will give you a refund.

Tell me about another company that has that policy.

The majority of the web hosting companies out there, do not even allow you to use 5% of the total server resources. And will suspend you immediately without giving you a refund.

We let you use 90% before we suspend you. That is 90% of a $10 000 server.

My point is about this whole reply is, the only reason we ever suspend an account is if it has been extremely abused. Most of the times it is because of spamming, nothing else.

Changed to them from Bizland and found them helpful on setup and have not needed them since as so far things are going as planned

I've had such a bad experience with 2 hosts. The last one is One2Host.com - please stay AWAY from them and e-mail me if you need more info on them (downtime was 12 days out of 30 and customer service response average - 3 days).

Anyway, after getting burned and loosing my money, I've decided to do a very thorow search. I was in need in nice space and bandwidth, but a budget plan. Unfortunately, after working on this matter for 2 day, I found out that it is practically impossible - most of the budget hosting services are really not that good. I narrowed down my search to 2 hosting services and picked LunarPages and so far I think I was right.

Next day right after I signed up I got a call from company confirming my purchase. I think it is a nice feature! After changing DNS, it only took 1 day (3 days before) and I was ready to go. I went on their control panel, and saw that I was missing out a lot of nice features. Their control panel looks great, very convinient with many features. I've changed setting to accept MS FrontPage and in 1 second I was able to download my whole site onto their server.

What I've noticed also, it took me much less time to download my site onto server and it looks like my site shows up much faster on the web (before it was pretty slow because of many pictures I have).

So far so good. I hope it will continue. Before choosing this host, I've check ALL the reviews. What I really liked about this hosting, that their customer service always responded to the negative comments or problems.

I am very disappointed with this service.  First of all, they changed my IP twice (which results in my site going to) without notifying me (even though I paid extra for a static ip).  Secondly, there tech support is sub par.  Last, their servers go down all the time.  I have my email on there and about 5% of the time I can't even connect to read my email.

I set up a non-profit organization web site on LunarPages. I figured I'd do all the heavy lifting administrating the site, but to my surprise the org staff jumped right in and started using the control panel all by themselves.

I was impressed.

Support has been very responsive (fast) and helpful. I thought the phpBB forums were neat (and easy to set up).

Different web hosting companies have various feature packages. I think that the LunarPages Standard package provides an ideal mix for a non-profit organization.

I could rave about the great packages and prices they offer but they are not all that unique. An exception may be the amount of bandwidth and storage they give you for a basic package.
Rather, the best thing I can say about LunarPages is their support. On staff they have people who can hold their own against any techno-weenie such as myself. In fact, it has been a humbling experience. People who know more than me and are willing to share this knowledge :+>>

Seriously though, there has been very little about Lunarpages I do not like and would recommend this company to anyone. My only problem has been with Resin. They have had a bit of downtime when I first joined. Seems that has been mostly been resolved. Well, at least to my satisfaction.

Price is very affordable. Customer service is great. I got real help every time I called. Unfortunately, I had problem with my site using JSP time to time. The JSP server was quite unstable. They could not figure out why. Just restart the server for me each time I called.

I am so fed up with FeaturePrice Webhosting that I packed my bags and found Lunarpages.  So far I have been greatly impressed with their customer service.  Within 5 minutes of signing up, a customer service was calling me on the phone to verify the transaction.  15 minutes after signing up, everything was up and running.  Within 30 minutes of signing up, I had email accounts established and now I'm just waiting on DNS changes to propagate.  Hopefully this is a good sign from Lunarpages.  I will update again soon.

I have been with them for over a month.  Fast set up.  Quick reply's for help.  Some times the tech support gets a little confused, but I think it on my end because of the way I put it into words. 

But the speed and price, plus amout of space you get, you can't go wrong.  As long as things don't slow down, I'm not going any where.

After having lived through several other lesser hosts, I have to say that this is a truly terrific service. Customer service is incredible--they actually pick up the phone and talk to you intelligently. Tech specs are outstanding. PHP, MySQL and a variety of other options (ASP, JSP(I think?)) are really quite rare in a host in this price range. Minimal down time. Very happy with this host.

Simply Put: I've been using the $7.95/month LunarPages plan since October 2002 and I've never been aware of any glitches/downtime. The control panel is easy enough for a bumpkin like me to use, but I can also use a simple FTP Agent to move files if I like. When I had a question for Customer Support, I called LunarPages toll-free number and immediately got a real-live human. So far... 100% satisfaction.

I host 2 sites on Lunarpages.  One under the standard plan and one under the premium plan.  Overall, Lunarpages has been a great host.  When the occasional problem comes up, their web based support is answered reasonably quick.  I do get the feeling that they actually care about their customers - this was something new for me after being hosted on infinology.

They offer all the latest bells and whistles.  Lunarpages has also been quick to upgrade their servers as needed.

Lunarpages is about as good as it gets for the services and reliability offered by a webhost in the budget price range.

Lunarpages used to be one of the best hosting companies for the money.  However, recently, things have changed for the worse.  Their servers will slow down for no reason, and other times I couldn't even access my email.  I've moved on to another hosting company and my life is much simpler.  I think the problem might be that they've accepted more customers than their equipment can handle.  Until they get their act together, I would STAY FAR AWAY from lunarpages!!!

They suddenly cut off their service with our previous bandwidth provider.

Since then, we have switched bandwidth provider. We are now multihomed with several bandwidth carriers to ensure network stability.

I have never used any web host service before, but Lunar Pages have supplied me with everything I need and expected. Been using these guys since 10/02.

Their setup was quick and easy. (within 24 hours)
There is a full array of the typical tools to use.
Price is reasonable.
Bandwidth speed is excellent.
Their setup appears well organized.
I have not noticed any downtime yet.

They would rather protect their pride than actually give the customer what he/she needs.  All I wanted was them to phone me.  I couldn't contact them for over a week because all lines were busy at all times (I should've known something was up when they couldn't work their phones).  They kept sending me e-mails that would contradict a previous e-mail.  They then suspended my account because I insulted tech support.
SUMMARY: I was originally excited about this company because they were excellent to talk to before I became a customer.  I signed up, but then when I requested help, they refused to give it to me, and then they refused my business.  If you enjoy being treated like sheep being herded, then these guys are right for you.

This is a very good host.  I only had one problem and it was resolved pretty quickly.  $7.95/month for 300 MB space and 20 GB transfer is definitely a good deal.

They shut down our site without any warnings because somebody thought that it was taking a little more cpu time. I lost clients, time, and credibility.
In an emergency situation don't expect any response between 6pm to 9am PST.

Since signing with this gem of a company, I have been absolutely delighted with the service. They're very cheap, incredibly efficient and offer a range of services - the amount of bandwidth they offer is unbelievable. Just what we needed. I can't speak highly enough of Lunarpages.

The customer service is exceptional. Unlike many web companies, they actually respond immediately to phone calls and emails! Having said that, I haven't had a single problem with the service, but it's good to know they're a stand-up team. Any correspondence has been questions I've wanted answered.

Excellent across the board. One of those rare occasions where you get an amazing service without having to break the bank. And no pesky small print to worry about :)

This would have been the best host available, if there was not for a serious limitation of the size of e-mails that can be sent or received. They limit the attachement size to 2MB or less. I work in engineering and have to send/receive drawings that are anywere between 1 to 3MB, so because of this, this site is useless, no matter how good they are at everything else. I have called them, and tryied to convince them to upgrade the service, but they did not help. I offered to pay more money monthly, but nothing convinced them, so I have to take my business somewere else.
Wake up guys! We are on the fast internet, and even jokes that I get have sound and pictures, and are larger than 2MB...

Obviously you convinced us to upgrade the attachement limit. Wich will be 10MB.

Please have in mind that most email services out there will not accept such large attachements. As the default limit range only between a couple of megabytes.

I signed up with Lunarpages after a particularly bad experience with our previous hosts. This time I did a little research and found Lunarpages via the positive word of mouth. I'm glad I did!

Most hosts are masters of the small print, but Lunarpages are totally legit. What they offer is what you get. And they offer an amazing deal. Lots of space, tons of cool features and impressive amounts of bandwidth. Everything is quick.

Plus, they actually excel at customer service. I haven't had any problems at all with the service, but when we were moving the site to Lunar, they provided detailed instructions and actually called to make sure everything was ok. That affability is always a nice touch.

Our previous hosts, with whom we were paying WAY over the odds, were supposedly "24/7". They hardly ever answered the phone and their email responses were days late and completely robotic.

With Lunar, you know you're actually dealing with people - not a delayed autoresponder! The service is top-notch, incredibly cheap and problem-free. I'd recommend it to anyone seeking a strong, reliable service.

In the month or so I have used Lunarpages, on multiple occasions they were doing "maintenance" during normal business hours. On at least two occassions during the normal work day our website and e-mail were unavailable for more than an hour. Our site also seems to run very slow at times. Hostsave sucked for various reasons, but right now they seemed to have had a better up time and a faster connection.

I had our company transfer our domain to Lunarpages based on the reviews here, and I have been very disappointed in the short time (5 days) since we joined. I hope this is just a bad week.

First off, as I write in the middle of a Wednesday afternoon, Lunarpages' host server has been down for at least 2 hours and still counting. Not only is our website itself down, but email is down too. Not even the control panel is up.

We have also had problems with clueless support. When trying to setup our site before transferring the domain, we got no help at all from their tech support. Tech support would ask if I installed Frontpage extenstions immediately after I had stated that I had done so. After several e-mails of me re-stating myself several times, they said I had to upload the site to our domain : www.moldlab.com - even though I had stated several times I had not yet transfered my domain from my old hosting company. We wanted the site up at the old host and the new host simultaneously to prevent downtime as the DNS changes propagated. Eventually I gave up on tech support and had to just use brute force to ftp my entire Frontpage web directory (tech support never mentioned ftp at all.)

If things don't get better fast, it looks like I will be going thru the hassle of tranfsering my domain again.

Unfortunately FrontPage is very limited. We could however have installed a lunarpages subdomain for you temporarily so you could upload your website with FrontPage without moving your domain name.

The issues with the mars server have been resolved. It should be very stable at this time with no reported downtime.

This is by far the best support team I've ever interacted with.  Extremely quick turnaround time to any questions or problems you may have.  Not to mention a very flexible Control Panel which allows you to setup mailboxes/forwarders/auto responders/mailing lists/webmail/custom Error pages/cron jobs/mime types/Apache handlers/Frontpage extensions/mySQL databases/Hot links protection/shopping cart/forum/Chat/and so much more.  Highly recommended.
