Excellent uptime, TONS of options.  The tech support really cared, they spent hours helping me when I messed up the permissions on all of my files, restoring from backups and explaining stuff to me in human terms.  I've tried other hosts that were cheaper, but they are too impersonal and won't help you with little problems.

Uptime on LiquidWeb is horrible. It seems like every day my site is unavailable for a few minutes here and there. I've logged outages of over an hour as well. When my site is up, it is slow. Their pricing and features are ok, but if you have daily visitors to your site, don't rely on the shared hosting at LW. It's crap.

I first hosted with Liquid Web, 18 months ago and it was great.  Then when the first year was over, it all turned to hell. I agrred to have my site hosted by them again and they billed me for a domain name they said was FREE, when I called to complain they did not care.  Then at the end of the six months of hosting, I tried to cancel my account and they kept saying I had to do this and that... and then they billed my Credit card.  I called to complain and the guy acted like he did not care and when he said he would take off the charge, it was like he was doing me a favor.  HORRIBLE COMPANY.

At first glance Liquid Web seems like the ideal web host.  They have great prices, lots of features, and even the mandatory Flash intro.  They answered all my presales questions quickly, so I decided that I'd give them a shot.  That was my first mistake.

When I signed up with them, I opted for the free domain name.  That was my second mistake, because the domain was registered in Liquid Web's name and was not mine to keep.

At first, Liquid Web seemed great.  My site was reasonably fast, was up most of the time, and I generally had no complaints.  Then, one day, my site was suspended.  I quickly shot off an e-mail asking why it was suspended and that if it was some kind of mistake to put it back up.  I waited one day, no response.  Two days, no response.  Finally, on the third day I got a reply saying I was using too my of the system resources.  I was well under my bandwidth limit, but my simple HTML low-graphic website with 200 or so hits a day was taxing their server.

After several threatening e-mails, they finally let me have my site back.  A week later it was down again, but not because it was suspended.  It turned out that the server crashed because another client had been running an IRC script.

I could go on and on writing about other incidents like this one that happened to me during my stay with Liquid Web.  Don’t let this happen to you.  There are plenty of other hosts out there to choose from.  Make sure you do your homework.

Oh yeah, and about the domain name.  As soon as my contract with them ended I changed hosts.  However, they wouldn’t let me transfer it, claiming that it was “their property”.  I planned on waiting for it to expire, but they sold it to someone who has now registered it until 2011.

I see enough negative postings that I thought I should put in a good word for these guys. I ran into some minor problems with the headers their mail servers added to script-generated email causing legitimate email broadcasts to be treated like spam by aol and Hotmail. But it was nothing I couldn't work around. I've rarely needed their technical support, but I've found them helpful when I did.

I selected Liquid Web because their feature list looked good, they appear to be on the php/mysql bandwagon, and relative to most hosts, their site design is almost palatable (or at least it was until they added flash with looping music- lol - I think they are either very young or they're desparately aging). The few times I've contacted them, they've been polite and response time has been between 2-30 hours. I purchased an account for posting project sites and it was fine, the sporadic downtimes didn't really affect my projects and the sporadic mail service just meant that sometimes I had to wait for email, and the fact that a 11k page was slow to load didn't really matter either since it wasn't really a live page.

Then I actually had to post a working site for a friend who wanted to use whatever host I was using ... The account was not activated the first go 'round, so a month after the account had been ordered I checked in with LW and they activated it.  I then got the "welcome letter" giving me the IP to use while the dns was propogating.  The IP took me to www.tophide.com/~_domain with only "parent directory" and "cgi bin" links present, no login to the account.  Going to the parent directory of course dumped me into the directory structure for www.tophide.com (what the heck kind of name is that anyway, if not a p***n site?).  I emailed tech support and the response said that I needed to use the IP provided in the "welcome letter" (duh) and if I wanted a unique IP address I would have to upgrade to a pro account (huh?).  It was news to me that they're doing IP sharing, but that's a whole other issue (BTW NEVER buy hosting from company that does IP sharing. There is no reason for it, and the damage it can do your search engine rankings is difficult to recover from) however, discovering that the IP address was shared with another domain still did not explain to me how to access the account. Successive emails elicited the same circular response that I would have to upgrade to a pro account for a unique IP ...completely ignoring my issue -- that I was unable to access the account, even after I sent a screen shot. I figured I'd deal with the shared IP addessing another time.  I finally managed to get a login from www.tophide.com/~_domain when I clicked on the cgi_bin .... now what the heck is that all about? I got it to work, but I am moving my own account immediately.

Use this host if your site is static html and you don't care if the speed or uptime of your site is sporadic, ie. your site is personal or a hobby site

I do think the issue might have been more easily resolved if I had been communicating with the same person throughout... and maybe I was? the responder was billing@liquidweb... and some guy named Matt.  Previously, I'd corresponded with Zac and Ross, and found them both to be helpful.  If you're stuck with LW, try to work with Zac or Ross.

I have rated Liquid Web's value based on offerings and cost as 1 -worst because there is no value in shared IP addressing to me as a customer.  That only benefits the host by saving them a couple dollars per customer.

They lure you in with great prices, and good technical resources, then ZZZZZZZ, they go to sleep. Or more likely, they just ignore you completely. Here are a few things they have done to me: 1) delete log files at random times and dates without warning (because they felt like it), causing me to loose tracking between hits and $$$ radio spots during peak Christmas season, 2) Updated to lastest PHP version, without warning, before the version was stable - crashed the site, took days to patch, right before Christmas. 3) my site was hacked and all my clients' home addresses and phone numbers were stolen - liquidweb's response: So What? I was never able to track how the hacker got in. Liquidweb refused to share log files or help in any way. Even after I threaten to hold them liable for anything that happened to any of my clients.

Bottom line: if you are just playing around and technically savvy, liquidweb is okay. If you have a serious business application, stay clear!

Poor customer service - Review by Mikko T. submitted on October 18, 2002

Well I must agree on the customer service, it's non existent. I had a situation on my site, I exceeded my bandwith quite a lot. I noticed it only few days after it happened. I had no emails about it...I had to make ticket to them. That's ok by me, I can monitor the site myself too if needed.

It took almost a week to handle this simple thing, I wanted to know how much it's going to cost. It took several days before I got an answer how much I owe them and we both agreed on it (they emailed promptly back everyday just fine during the week). Ok, then came the weekend, I don't work on weekends and I don't read my emails during weekends (I used my work email, not home) so next monday I got an email waiting for me, saying I have to answer them within 48 hours or they they close the ticket. The mail that had the total cost I owed them came in the evening before the weekend, on friday, so I didn't see it untill monday. Anyway, I answered them that I agree and let's do that and charge me for the due I owed them and waited one day, nothing happened. I emailed them again (I used the address in the support ticket and it was recorded in the ticket itself so it coulnd't been lost anywhere, it's still there) and I was now getting frustrated because no one has yet replied. Nothing happens, I wait another day and make another support ticked asking what's taking so long (foolish, I know, I was angry at that time). Still no answer. I was replied everyday before and now suddenly no answer. Did they all go on vacation or what has happened. Or is this the "silence treatment" troublesome customers get?

I still want to pay them what I owe. But I guess I'm not so important customer to them so I can be treated like this with no worries. And maybe the bad reputation don't mind them either, they have other customers.

Bigger companies can afford loss of one customer, in the long term bad reputation can hurt them more. I think this behaviour is quite childlish. Oh, wait a minite, maybe I'm now behaving likewise, childlish by writing this comment? If they are in customer service they should treat their customer equally, I work myself in one of the largest firms in the world and this kind of customer support has never been allowed within the company.

Other than above "problem" with them all has worked quite good with them. I only have problems now and maybe this only an isolated "problem"...Still waiting for resolution in my case...

Slow connections for mail/FTP, frequent downtime, and rampant rude bastardism by terminating accounts for using NetPBM/ImageMagick (followed by "we just wanted to get your attention" explanations) -- I've experienced it all. I'm glad to have moved to a new host.

I have been with LiquidWeb for almost a year and I know that I will not be going back.  They have, without a doubt, the worst customer service I have ever encountered.  For example, one time I opened up a support ticket with them and immediately got a response that they were working on my problem.  I waited a few days, added another message to the ticket, and nothing.  I had to wait another week before I got a response, much less a solution to the problem.  Another thing, if you use MySQL or PHPNuke or any spin-offs, don't use LiquidWeb.  They simply don't go together.

Now here's the worst thing yet.  LiquidWeb claims that NetPBM uses up too much of the system resources, and can't be used.  They don't even give you a way to monitor the amount of the system resources you are using.  NetPBM is very popular, and is used by Gallery, which most PHPNuke users are familiar with.  I can hardly imagine it using up any noticable amount of a web server.  LiquidWeb must have some pathetic machines.

My site has been down at least a few times a month the entire time I have been with them.  It is usually shorter then an hour, but it happens CONSTANTLY.  If you have any respect for yourself, go to another host.  There are cheaper better ones out there.

I moved one of my sites to LiquidWeb after having a lot of downtime and poor support from another host.

At first everything went okay.  When I had trouble I would submit a ticket and would get a reply the next day.  The first response generally didn't solve the problem.

Then I had trouble accessing my site for a couple of weeks.  It was not constant, but I could not view it for a couple hours, then it would work again.  Tech support would write back (the next day) to say it was working.

I tried several days to reach them via a toll-free number.  I always got a recording no tech was available.

One of the main reasons I chose LiquidWeb was the phone support.

Since it didn't work, I've moved.

I would not rate them as terrible.  But I think I can get at least as good a service from other servers at a lower price.  I did call their number BEFORE I signed up and was able to reach a support person quickly.

I don't know what changed.

Avoid this host.  After having months of random performance problems and no site stats for 3 months I requested they look into it.  They rebooted the web server in the middle of the day and gave some excuse designed to fend off the average web user.  The site was still taking up to half a minute to render a simple page using PHP and Perl so I looked into it myself with my shell account and noticed that there was no load on the server at all and httpd and mysql were never exceeding 2-3%.  I contacted them again and thier response was that they limited the cpu time httpd and mysql (the webserver and database) could use because of process abuse preventing the web stats from running.  I complained that it was taking 20 times longer to render regualar perl scripts and php scripts and they have gone way too far.  They didnt respond.  After 1 week they closed the problem as fixed.  I looked around and found another provider and ordered the service and moved my site over.  The site was again processing pages fast on the new server but a new problem crept up.  The domain name registrar will not allow me nor my new ISP to update the DNS entry for my domain name.  Well, LiquidWeb 2 weeks later still hasnt repsonded to this.  The registrar has forbidden my name transfer to a competitior and will not provide an explanation even though I authorized it.  In the end I am sure I will get my domain name transfered and in the mean time I have just used redirectors to get most of the site working.  I recommend you look elsewhere for your hosting needs.

I generally have had an okay experience with Liquid Web.  I usually get a response within 24 hours of an email and honestly, I feel a 24-hour turn around time is fine.  I had several complex technical questions answered in a professional manner.
I did have one experience where the answer was sort of a "well, it is your fault you don't know SQL well enough." That is true.  It is NOT the responsibility of a web host to teach you how to program or implement a website.
My biggest complaint is that they advertised that 2 months were free with a one year contract.  This is TRUE, because there is a discount for an annual contract, but I thought you got the discount AND two months free.  My mistake.
Other than that, I like them for their great features.  Two shopping carts? Free scripts? What else can I say, but "Great"!

These guys are LYING when they say they've revamped their customer service dept. and their equipment. What a joke! This company has the feel and M.O. of a couple of guys in a dorm room somewhere, who MIGHT help you out if you're lucky enough to get ahold of them. Half the time I have a problem, they don't fix it until I've called several times. Seriously, the customer service, essentially, DOES NOT EXIST. They say their "customer service center" (ie dorm room) is open during certain hours. Call 'em sometime and find out for yourself. THEY ARE NEVER THERE! And even when you do manage to get through, they usually don't do what they say anyway. On a technical note, YOU WILL HAVE TO CALL LIQUID WEB EACH AND EVERY TIME YOU WANT YOUR SITE STATS UPDATED! This is a rather recent phenomenon, and unbelievably frustrating. Even more frustrating is when you do call in and beg them to update your stats, sometimes (IF they actually do it, which is about half the time) it takes 10 minutes and sometimes it takes hours. Liquid Web offers a lot for the money, but as this site says "IF IT LOOKS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS." Liquid Web is all promises and doubletalk with ZERO delivery. I'll be taking my business elsewhere, even if it costs more money.

In most regards LiquidWeb provides a good service/product. My dissatisfaction is in the problem resolution area. For some reason, their documentation states that stats will be run every other day, but for the past couple of months I have had to submit a support ticket to get stats run on my site. The response usually says 'your stats have been updated', but somehow stats do not get back into the schedule of programs to be run routinely. The last episode was on 7/5, and stats have not been run yet as of 7/21. There have been other support items that have been handled very well.

Lots of downtime, and server Nazi's - Review by submitted on July 15, 2002

I've been with LW for a while, and have two major complaints:

One is the uptime...or lack thereof. My site is down all the time. It's not bad or long...but happens All the time. Sometimes for 10 - 15min sometimes HOURS. This is unacceptable.

My other complaint is customer service. LW is basically run by just a few guys. Every time I called about billing I got someone (the same guy) friendly on the phone. Every time I called for tech support I got some rude idiot.

On top of dodgy customer relations, their control panel and help desk software doesn't work correctly. A friend of mine is also hosted there and every time he logs in it tells him he has a different amount of disk space. His account was also shut off because some server Nazi thought a small program was killing the box. Thing is…if the servers are not overloaded and configured correctly nothing should "kill" the server.

Do yourself a favor and go with someone else. I chose LW because they are based in Michigan and I wanted to support a local company. I also chose them because they have very good features for little money. Lately the downtime and poor management of the servers have me looking for another host.
Liquid Web representative's response:

I apologize for the downtime you experienced. We have hired more respresentatives, and more server management technicians. We have eliminated the major problems/bugs within the help desk system and within the Cpanel. Again, I apologize for the service you received and can assure you we have taken care of the matters at hand.

Well my sites down again and has been for over 12 hours.  And Liquids own site is down. Called phone support, they aren't sure what's wrong will check into it. This is the 5th time in 45 days they've been down. They also had a security breach that had me down for 2 days a few months ago.  They changed the email client without telling me dumping and losing all my email a few months back, then after I got the new mail setup they changed back to the old mail server.  I'm shopping around for a new host and dumping them after July.  They stuff too many sites on one server.
Liquid Web representative's response:

We now have a new security system implemented, which to date has stopped any and all potential hacks/backdoors/etc.. from entering, or being used on the servers. The mail system has been overhauled along with the rest of our software, and hardware.

They have false advertising on their control panel that SSH/Telnet access is provided for each userid>, they then took 2 days when querried to say 'oh, whoops, sorry, that's a syntax mistake', they have a looong Technical Support wait time and it seems that they're run by one person.  In short, run fast, far and away.
Liquid Web representative's response:

Liquid Web provides hosting for those technofiles who know what they need from a host.  I can't justify spending $100/month with another provider to get the features that LW provides.  My sites require the high transfer/storage rates that LW has.  Unless you truly know your stuff I wouldn't recommend paying for a site. go somewhere free first, learn your stuff, then pay for it.  Anyone who truly needs help with the LW system should seek professional help from a brain doctor.
Liquid Web representative's response:

We have revived and revised our Customer Support Manual at 'http://manual.liquidweb.com'. Our technical support team now includes more representatives that have the time and knowledge to assist with problems of any nature.

I send them an email explaining my exact problem and what I've dont to correct it and they tell me to do the same thing I just did. This happened over and over. They only read the first sentence or two of your email. Good luck with phone support.

I have been hosting with liquidweb for the last 1 1/2 yrs.  They offer the most features, and their control panel is better than any control panel on the market.  There support is excellent and is "almost" always answered in a decent amount of time, less than 24 hrs.  What more could you ask for from a 14.95-24.95 account? Features? Got it. Toll FREE phone support? Got it. Help Desk and email support? They've got that covered too.  I also hear they just recently upgraded their network to an OC3 connection.  Gotta love these guys.

Everything works great most of the time. That’s the problem most of the time... if for any reason something is not working or you need help setting something up, it is a pain to get help/support.

24/7 monitored Help Desk, is B***S****. Basically you can submit your question 24/7, but expect to get a response in 7-24 hours, YES 24 hours later. Responses are not very detailed. One-liners and they do not answer all your questions. As someone said, you are better off searching google for the answers.

Phone support only during business hours M-F. I usually can get a hold of someone, but PRAY to god you get one of the good tech supports (only 2 exist). Some of the time they will tell you they’ve fixed it or will be fixed in XX amount of time just so that you will leave them alone. They tend to throw wild explanations and reasoning at you to shut you up. To bad it didn’t work for me.

If you don’t need tech support, maybe they are a perfect match for you.

Liquid Web representative's response:

We have extended our monitoring to 24 hour, and our technicians as well. I apologize for the previous lack in service.

I was lured by the large amount of bandwidth.
But this company has a horrible support staff that just don't care.
If you like one line (rude, cold) answers to your problems this is it. I was given a defective control panel from the start, even after numerous request it was never
fixed. The servers are SlOOOOOOOOOW.
and the billing system is nebulous at best.
Give yourself a break don't choose these guys.

Liquid Web representative's response:

We have upgraded our network to include two DS3's and an additional OC3 connection. An additional DS3 and OC3 are on the way within the next month.

I was looking for a host with a plan that offered a large amount of disk space, transfers and front page support. Liquid Web filled the bill.  Had to deal with tech support once, guy was knowledgeable but not overly friendly. I would agree that this is a host for someone in the know, not a newbie.  All the tools have worked fine.  I had ValueWeb and while their service level is better, their value can't compare.  To get a similar package I would have to pay double the price.  For the money, I have no complaints so far.

Tech support is horrible. Short, one line answers to questions. Ask a multiple question on one help ticket get 50% answered, then have to ask again and sometimes again. Refuse to give tech support for any "extra" features included with plan that you're paying for, such as pre-configured scripts, etc. If you are a newbie this host is NOT for you. You will get an a user name/password to your online control panel and you're on your own. Any questions you have, you're better off using Google.
Stats log CONSTANTLY screwed up or totally down ,literally every 2weeks. Impossible to show advertisers your traffic to sell ad space. Go with a 3rd party traffic analyzer-or better yet-another host. Very poor communication with the customer. You better have a site monitoring service, cuz when your box goes down, you won't know about it from them. Once they even completely disabled my site w/o ANY notification because of a resource problem with one of my scripts. Was down for HOURS before I happened to notice and called THEM. Servers must be packed full of sites, since many images don't load and I get 503 errors on WAY to many pages.
Not worth the $24.95/mo....more like $6.95
Liquid Web representative's response:

Within the last month, we have upgraded the hardware in the servers to handle more than the capacity needed. We have updated the Cpanel software and are working with Cpanel programmers to eliminate any bugs that arise.

Poor tech support.  Called tech support everyday for 3 1/2 weeks and they never got Front Page Extensions to work email forms.  Tech support say email is fixed, never ever was fixed.  If you call after 8 PM M-F you will never get anyone and their hours fluctuated on weekends may be able to reach someone up to 3 PM.
Liquid Web representative's response:

We have extended our number of technicians, and extended our weekend phone support hours to 6PM (E.S.T).

I have had my site hosted for about 3 months now. Not only is the support the WORST I have ever experienced (I get faster replies with more detail in them from uber-dodgy shell companies).

I'm looking for a new host at the moment, and would NOT recommend these guys to anyone. Been around for ages, but there support is HORRIBLE, I get 1 or 2 sentance replies to my long and detailed emails outlining my problem, I have to keep resending emails as they never answer all my questions in the first place.

They say 99.9% uptime, but this is only on 'Network Connectivity' which means as long as the network cables still work, who cares if the box is down. Servers seem sluggish and slow and overloaded with too many accounts.

I'm very very unhappy with the service. I pay $24.95 US which translates to about $50 AU dollars, which is very expensive, but I was happy to pay for GOOD fast hosting with lots of features.

Great features, but horrible support. If anyone has a better host email me at the listed address, I'm just sorry I cant give out my emails on the domain, the box is down too much for me to use thos e as reliable email addresses.
Liquid Web representative's response:

Due to the number of complaints, we have overhauled our support center, in an effort to achieve and maintain the best level of customer support possible.

I've been with them for 3 months and I had no big problems so far.  The server quality and uptime seem good BUT they are slow to respond to email support questions.  Unlike many others they do have an 800 phone number for support though.  I did some research before signing up with them and it looks like they've been around for quite a while too.

I have hosted my site which runs on mysql is very slow, overloaded with hundreds of sites though they charge $ 25.00, the quality is worst than 7.95 host, even plain html pages take long time to load. support never responds to you on time.
Liquid Web representative's response:

We have upgraded our server hardware along with MySql. We have implemented a new system which regulates user's with 'out of control', or poorly written databases, thus resulting in a stable load average on the server.

okay, plain vanilla provider. MySQL databases seem to struggle noticeably with response time (overloaded servers?). No zend output compression either. Neither pleased nor displeased with this webhosting company.
Liquid Web representative's response:

We have implemented a new system for MySql which allows the load average to stay stable by monitoring out of control databases. We have also introduced Zend optimization.
