I"ve been with PHP Webhosting for over a year now and I'm quite happy. Sure, there's downtime (maybe a day a month) but that's bearable with the deal you're getting. I would recommend this for someone to run a personal site, but definitely not a business site. Also, the servers are certainly fast enough.

I've been very pleased with PHPWebhosting for over a year now, but lately things are going severely downhill with their uptimes, revealing more underlying problems in the process. As others have mentioned, they do not offer a phone number for support -- just a web page. But if your site is down, so is the support webpage! E-mailing support just instructs you to use the support page, which is NOT the same page as www.phpwebhosting.com (which is up all the time for some reason and is not a good indicator of uptime for the provider in general!). They do offer quite a lot of services for the price, such as SSH access, PHP, MySQL databases, email, etc., but as far as I can tell, all of these services are run on ONE system, which means when it is down, so is your email. Via the support page, I've told them numerous times to get their support server off the customer server so we can log problem tickets, but they never listen. If you know of a hosting provider that offers the same services they do and at the same price (but better uptime), email me. PHPWebhosting is at least miles better than addr.com, I must say.

phpwebhosting offers a great deal for no money. I've been hosting 15 sites with them for some time now; and i never had any problems.

Except for the last months that is. The downtimes are just crazy; i'm runing a forum on one of the accounts; and that one is more down then up. Even our own companysite is constantly offline. I've ran Netmechanic tests that gave a "poor" result on the affected servers, but were questioned by phpwebhosting. But 100 users on a forum can't be wrong; and all week i've been running autorefresh pages that result in servererrorpages every other hour; so there's definitely something wrong. I hope they will be able to solve the downtimes asap; cuz it's getting extremely annoying...

In the past moth I'd say that my site hosted by them has been up 20-25% of the time. That includes email and control panel access. Requests emailed to "sales" or "support" always come back asking me to submit problems through the control panel. I always reply back that I would if it was accessible. After that, little to no communication.

They were really good until Dec of 2002, and then things started going downhill. I'm looking for a new host.

A shame, because when they were good, they were great. But not anymore.

I have used two hosting companys since 1999, and I have used PHPWebHosting for about 1.5 years. For PHP/MySQL hosting, it is awesome. I have control over databases, sub-domains, and emails. Tech support has always been fast (usually within 4 hours by trouble-ticket), and I've had to hardly use it. I can only think of one outage I had with my database, and the problem was quickly resolved.

The only reason I would ever leave PHPWebHosting would be if I decided to move to ASP or Coldfusion.

As I write this, our site is down and, for the first time, you get the phpwebhosting control panel when you try to access our site. We've been getting disk full errors for months off and on, with no resolution. We are on a 14G server with 217 other sites and PHPwebhosting promises 125Megs + more if you need it. Doing the math, that means we would have to be on a 27.25G server. The other problem is they are insistent that you only contact them via trouble tickets which you have to file via your control panel. But, if you site is down, so is your control panel, so you can't. Sending help requests to their "support" email brings curt "use your control panel to submit tickets." We were very happy with them until the first of the year when things slowly started going south. It's gotten much, much worse recently.

You are probably wondering why I'm up here if they were so great.. Well their plan requires that people not use any high-activity content on their site. I am making some tutorials for blender (great 3D app) and am actively looking around for a good host to serve up these tutorials because I know its going to suck down phpwebhosting's resources if I keep on with them.

I've been very satisfied with them, they offer a complete SSH/SFTP access to the account, they opensourced their site's hosting software (at least there is a "phpwebhosting" project on sourceforge), their php configuration is better than I can do on my home off-line apache/php setup (I have been experimenting with the flash content generating modules in PHP and their site is poperly configured for it).. They have full perl, they offer complete and easy to configure majordomo access (listervs are major easy), I tend not to use the email accounts but I think its unlimited.. ITs just a generally good place to put the mainsite..

I'm looking for the high-bandwidth site now..

(PHPwebshoting offers 5 GB per month, which may be adequate but I haven't been able ot obtain information on the bandwidth I'm using, its not that they don't offer it, I think I deleted the directory they setup for me that they save the stats pages in).

As for the bad ratings like the 8 I gave them for uptime, the best time to edit yoru website is late at night, SSH access during the day is rather slouchy, and ftp upload access tends to be a little slow, but last night for sometime it was uploading consistently for some time (I switched from DSL to a modem, I was getting a 4K per second upload and the SSH was better than usual, but usually during the day its a little choppy) experience over DSL was purportional to the modem ( I mean choppy during the day but quick at night))..

The host is decent and provides good service most of the time, but their servers frequently full up their disks, causing the server to crash. Additionally, the mail servers consistently crash, making everything unusable.

...but after a month with them, they disappear. I have had an SSL certificate registered and at first, things were good...then I needed to change my SSL cert....boom... everything secure died. They would not re-register the certificate, no response from their control panel. In fact, terrible service. Getting what you paid for...requires that it WORKS! It does as long as you don't need to adjust anything...their claim that you can easily is false.

I've hosted with phpwebhosting.com for 2 years. They're service used to be top notch, but since about 12/2002 it has become horrible.

It is with a heavy sigh that I see I am not the only one having trouble with these guys.

I first heard of phpwebhosting via some developer forums and they delivered spectacular results. Since Dec. 2002, things have taken a remarkable turn for the worse.

The domain I list here is for a non-profit org I'm associated with. The downtime has been unbelievably high the past couple months. Go ahead, try it... I give it a 50/50 chance you'll get the site.

What disappoints me most is the denial I get when they decide to respond to an inquiry. I sent them a msg via their front page and got a response from sales... the same person has responded to me as a support tech. They denied there was a problem and the sig suggested I use the control panel help desk link to post a ticket. Well when the server is not responding, you can't get to the control panel. They don't answer anymore anyway.

Also, I had the org prepay to get the billing off my credit card - I need to move the site and we still have 4 months paid. They won't reply to the most gently-worded request for support, I can't imagine I can get any money back.

The worst is that I have recommended them to several clients and even (foolishly) recently put up another non-profit domain.

Run. Run away. Keep looking for your ideal host and it seems to me that you do indeed get what you pay for.

Things were good until go.phpwebhosting.com lost two drives out of the three in its RAID array. They did get a replacement server up and restore basic access.

They are not answering tickets to setup SSH access and phpmyadmin does not show databases at all... I have all my data backed-up and have ftped it back on the server I just cannot use either commandline or web mysql access to get my databases setup again.

It has been two days and there have been no updates on the status of the old server and not a single ticket has been closed. I am seriously considering switching to pair for real hosting since this stopped a demo of a page for a client.

I would really have like them to a least continued to sent out status reports at least once a day...

I guess you really do get what you pay for!

This host is good. I really like the control panel and the servers are very fast, usually up all the time. You can't beat the price. Great service and they reply to my tech tickets right away. I use php/MySQL on all my websites and it works great. One thing is that they don't have phone support but thats ok.

I used to like them a lot. They had what I needed and it worked. Now, as someone else said, their uptime has dived, their mail has serious problems, their space keeps running out, and they don't answer their damn trouble tickets!! They must have gotten rid of their good techs.

My experiences have mirrored D Teed's earlier review. There were many problems in December with disk space.

I've had a web site for just over nine months at php webhosting and for the last two months, the reliability has been poor. Granted, they've been updating their software, but that doesn't account for all of the outages lately.

Customer support is pretty bad, too. Emails don't always get answered. In fact, my web site is down today, and I have no idea why. I sent email this morning, haven't received a response.

I'm now in the market for another webhost with comparable offerings.

When I started out with them they were great. I recommended them to several friends who all signed up. This week they decided to move my domain to a different server in the middle of the day. The new server rejected all email for my domain. I complained. They moved it back to the old server which now also rejected all email for my domain. For 2 days and counting I've not gotten a single email sent to my domain. They also have ignored my requests to fix this. Because of this I discovered they have no secondary MX hosts for hosted domains. If the server on which your email is hosted is down your mail is going to bounce becuase there is no back up. I'm currently looking for a new provider.

Phpwebhosting is just great. I've been hosted since august 2002 and I find it one of the best webhosts with the best packages I've ever come across. You have unmetered webspace and can ask for more whenever u need it. The plan says 200mb. but im currently using nearly 300 mb and will ask for more soon. Also, the support tickets are usually answered within an hour if i enter it at night. (GMT+8) This site gives me "unlimited" access, unlimited POP3 emails, unlimited subdomains and a useful control panel with php and mySQL support.
My site has never been down since it started and I'm pretty fortunate to find such a good webhost on the first try as this is the first time I've ever got my yourname.com

P.S.
as for the bad reviews u see, I'm sure the problems have been resolved as I currently do not have such problems on my server! However, I cannot say anything for other servers.

phpwebhosting.com has been a great place to host until recently. We had our site there and put two real estate listing sites on their servers. Currently, two servers (sprout and lion) are at 100% disk space used, and this is not changing. No one is monitoring the servers and no one is answering support tickets.

It smells like a company in disarray (typical of a company that has had layoffs or is in financial trouble).

My php and mysql based forums run beautifully. Even with heavy traffic and processor use, everything runs adequately. Very little downtime, but no notice is given first. Very quick customer service, though, if only through email.

I've hosted three sites here, two of them without a hitch.

However for the third site, problems with phpwebhosting's DNS and subdomain system caused our site to be down for five days, until we moved it to a different site.

I should say that we were using external IP's for some of the subdomains, and that we were trying to alias a second domain there (essentially an alernate spelling of our primary domain) as well.

Customer service was polite and professional, but varied in quality. Sometimes it seemed they weren't really reading our questions, and they definitely didn't live up to their promise to fiv the problems.

The subdomain system is brand new to phpwebhosting, and I expect that it will work well when they work out the kinks.

I think sometimes in their rush to include new features they haven't tested the systems completely.

Often links on the control panel won't work, but the next day they will.

If you're just going to host one site at their location, and you don't want to do DNS or anything fancy, I would still recommend them -- they are an excellent value for the core package that they offer.

I would reccomend phpwebhosting to anyone who wants a good deal, their customer service is good, but only to an extent because when i wanted help with something, they helped, but at the end i had to cancel because my webpage wasnt up yet, so i was paying for nothing, i was going to come back when my site was ready... i was with them for 8 months and a week..... and this is where things got bad.. they charged me for 9 months... when i was with them for 8 months and a week, i wanted a refund for one month, i didnt get it, i sent them several e-mails and i was ignored, but other than that their hosting, is good. really, it is.

I have had a significant number of problems with this host, as have my clients. They make numerous mistakes when managing and updating servers. They *DO NOT* respond promptly to any support inquiries. They don't ever check support inquiries on weekends. I cannot think of a worst hosting provider. I have given them a long time to mend their ways and it's only getting worse.

Well.. as far as speed goes... never had a better host! Freeservers! no way! got about half the speeds on fs as i do now on phpweb! its great! My friends love it, i have tons more space, my stuff works, and any help i need.. i can get! never been a client for a better company.. specialy for such a great price

I work at a multimedia design agency, where we work on large commercial sites hosted on top of the line servers that cost several times what phpwebhosting charges. While phpwebhosting does not accept phone calls or emails for support, I find that I get the same (sometimes better) service than our agency gets on the higher priced hosting companies.

Phpwebhosting offers mySQL and php, cgi, secure telnet and provides links so developers or hobbyists can learn. Email, database and other controls are handled through a web app. You also get great bandwidth, storage, and email. I'm not sure how this host would deal with extreme traffic, but for most sites, the performance is great.

What more could you really want. This company gives you exactly what you need, and charges you a fair price. They have always been incredibly fast at answering questions and dealing with requests. I host 2 sites with them and have never had an issue that wasnt resolved the same day. Highly recommended

Have not had any problems at all with these guys. Excellent value for the money.

You can get unlimited hard disk space, which is nice.

Only problem (a small one) - you canot have subdomains...

This is by far the best host ever. The service, and the quality is unparalleled in the hosting world. If you have a site that needs hosting, don't go anywhere else. I've been with them for a year, and I have yet to see downtime.

First the features that they provide are amazing. But what truly blows me away is the speed of their responses to customer support requests. They truly do a great job getting things done quickly. They have very clear succint answers. I typically don't like using online forms for support requests, because you can typically call and get answers quickly--but with these guys, I don't even think I could dial the number as quick as they get back to you on some responses.

Tremendous value and incredible service--don't be fooled by the price!

Since I transferred my website to this host I have been completely relaxed about it. I can expand it at will, upload and get info easily, and not sweat the bandwidth. Amazing speed when you get the support immediately. The offer is real: you pay only 9.95 and you get a lot of space, any number of databases you need and so on. Stats are Webalyzer. You can use ssh to access to your databases and ftp to upload your files. I setup a cron with them and you can ask for any special software you need to perform special tasks. ImageMagick is included in the server.

These folks are great. Prompt service, nice attitude and a personal touch. Highly recomended.

They may seem more expensive then the other cheap hosts (how is $9.95 expensive?) but the extra couple of bucks is worth it.

I used to own a domain, sunshinebutterfly.net, which I hosted with PHPwebhosting I must say they are fantastic! Great customer support & wonderful features. The only thing I was disappointed in was that you only get 1 ftp account. I've had my site as well as a clients' site hosted at phpwebhosting.com for about 8 months. In that time I've only had a small number of problems, all of which were fixed almost immediately. They do not resell accounts, this greatly improves the quality of their service.

These guys are the best. They know their stuff when you have a technical question (and I'm a sysadmin for a living!) and their servers are always up. My wife and I each have two sites each hosted with these guys; they are by far the best host I have ever used, and I've used a few. They're not a perfect 10 though: they don't offer anonymous FTP, though they did give me a CNAME pointer to another site for ftp.mydomain. Also pointed domains (which are free btw, no setup fee, no nada) can't receive email, but you can get another account if you need that. Until I have a t3 going into my house and can host my own sites I'm sticking with PHPWebhosting.
