It's not my style to just go with what everyone else says....unless it's actually true.

ADDR.COM is going to lose my business very soon because I'm in the process of looking for someone else.

They constantly go down. As of right now, I cannot access my site.

Their billing problems are horrendous. They won't even answer my emails asking them WHERE my bill is. They used to charge interest for a service that they weren't even putting on my bill. Now I don't even get a bill.

I asked them to upgrade their GD graphics library and they replied with "I
have informed our System Administrators regarding GD but I am unable to
confirm you when it will be updated to a newer version."

I Signed up and paid in full for one year--the support was horrible--my email was always down and the phone support was non-existent.  Finally I changed hosts and asked for a refund -- I was told they would send a refund right away-- then their accounting department started notifying me that my account was past due--I told them that they cashed my check back in November, gave them check # and everything--they started sending me weekly emails threatening to pull my account for non payment, they don't respond to emails, when you call them they refuse to let you speak to a manager--I was told the manager's name was Jeff and he was not around--and she didn't know when he would be around. They are totally incompetent and I agree with another reviewer who said they border on Slimy.  DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY--THEY ARE THE WORST.

We were with ADDR for a whole 5 days before we ran from them.

First, they had a server crash and stored all the content from that server on ours, so our 50MB available server space dropped to nothing.

Then, after 4 days of our domain not being available, we contacted them to find out how much longer it would be. Turns out, they hadn't registered it yet! And then they lied about it.

Finally, they said we had to pay by check or money order. No credit cards. (huh? what's that about). And to top it off, we signed up for the 'Get the first year free' offer. Then they said we still owed for the first year and they didn't know anything about the offer. We had to send them a link to their own page to show them!

We've sent 3 emails now telling the cancel the account and have received no confirmation yet. They can't get their act together!

Not to mention that in 2001 someone hacked into their database and stole names and credit card numbers for their customers! http://cert.uni-stuttgart.de/archive/isn/2001/04/msg00031.html

I rarely even download the email from my websites with this host because I get more trashy stuff...I just don't have time.  Their servers are usually operating, so that's good...and I do like the ability to have a majordomo mailing list set up to automatically have people sign up for email...but it's not worth it.

Email is continuously unrealiable.  They refuse to tell you who runs the company when you request the info.  They stopped my service after 9 months for non-payment even though I paid for 1 year in advance.  Very unreliable staff.  The service they offer is never provided in the manner they advise you.  You can find the CEO by looking up addr.com in the Colorado Business records online.  Please write and complain to the CEO.

I've read all your emails and I actually have an account with them. However I have spent the last 3 days emailing their sales dept. to ask questions about setting up another 2 accounts, because I felt that the hosting itself was alright. Hey they don't even answer when you want to give them money! And I know you guys are all correct when you say that tech support sucks.

ADDR is terrible. They don't have any tech support. They are slow to respond emails. They don't list their tech support number on their site, and they have recently taken out the Close Account page (thankfully I had it bookmarked so I was able to get to it and use it).

The management tool on their site is a joke. The interface is bad, the features don't work and nothing is ever clear whether you have exectued something or not.

If you ever have an issue regarding billing, good luck because you can't get in touch with them. They will just keep charging you until, by some miracle, you get someone to respond to you. I've switched to another service. AVOID ADDR AT ALL COST!

bordering on slimy - Review by Anonymous submitted on July 1, 2003

I hosted my website through ADDR for approximately six months before switching hosts.  I develop database-backed web applications, and was angered and dismayed at ADDR's spotty database access, and the fact that my site was constantly down because ADDR's MySQL server was mysteriously offline.  Responses to my emails would often take days.

I canceled my service with ADDR, at which point someone in their sales program offered me three free months if I would stay with them.  I ignored the offer, believing my wishes to not do business with ADDR were clear.  Six months later, I received a bill from them for $178, and just today, I received a late payment notice with a finance charge for said bill.  ADDR apparently has forgotten to close my account and now might damage my credit rating because of this oversight.  This behavior on ADDR's part is negligent bordering on criminal. I recommend ADDR if you enjoy paying for a website that's offline as often as online, truly heinous customer service, and billing that continues to harass you months after you've left for a superior provider.  As for myself, I only intend to do business with ADDR again through an attorney.

I liked the idea of getting my website activated immediate and low cost web hosting. For the first 3 months of free hosting, was awsome. Then after the 3 months the worst support, billing and email services ever.
My email never works, my autoresponders never worked. Took me about 25 emails to them to finally fix my autoresponders. Only to be told that if I need an autoresponder to email them to set them up for me. Apparently I cannot do this now.

They charged me for a whole month of sql database when I only had the database for 4 days. How pathetic.

My email always comes back to me as spam, says i'm spamming them when all i'm doing is sending an email to support.

My mailing lists never work. You should be able to send messages back and forth all day, all mine come back as spam.

This is the worst hosting I have ever come across in my life. I wouldn't recommnd to anyone.

I am looking for a new host as we speak. Should be switching in about 2 weeks.

I've used addr for several years and currently have about 4 sites hosted. Have not had many problems over the years. Recently, however, I had some interaction with sales and tech support(via email). I believe that they have hired some cheap H1-B's. It was ridiculous because I had a very simple issue with them but they didn't understand what I was saying. I had to repeat my correspondence five times before they got it.

Absolutely no support. No one ever answers the phone, and emails never get responded to. Email has gone down for a day or less a couple of times per year. On the plus side, the site is always up, so that's why I haven't dumped them.

Every few weeks I am unable to check my email because their servers have run out of disk space. Whenever I report this, it takes at least 24 hours to correct (in addition to the long hold times and ineffective offshore helpdesk people). I am only using 15 MB out of the 100 MB that I am promised, so it is ridiculous that the server could be out of space this often. I also reported them to the Denver BBB and am awaiting a reply.

I signed up with them when I first started out, and they were the cheapest deal. I knew nothing about web hosting so needed nothing. As my site grew, so did my needs. It's then I found that their pages - every single one on their entire site- take minutes to load, reload, and load. Just signing in, and going to the FAQ page takes 15 minutes.  They have an FTP Upload area that is useless because of this - every one thing you do reloads the entire page (jammed with ads and graphics).  Their tech support never answers the phone tho it is suposedly 24/7.  You get a recording telling you they're busy (at 3 am?) and after a 5 minute wait, are hung up on. ALWAYS. Ok, I thought, I can use an FTP program. No biggie. When I'd write for tech help, in 3-5-7 days I'd get some badly translated crap that didn't address my problem at all, and usually I was blamed for it.

I found out they got hacked in September and didn't tell anyone. During this time I couldn't get into my site, or mail or upload, being told my Password was wrong.  After a week, I finally got someone who said oh, your password's been changed and didn't even offer an apology. Since then I was buried in virus mails and spam, and I mean buried, daily. When I complained they told me to block the mails with my Eudora program - only you can't, so I had to make constant new email names to ditch the mail, but it'd find me.  When I complained about how slow their site was, after 3 weeks of stupid going-in-circles with them mail, they finally told me it was my ISP's fault. This was total bull .. I even sent them 9 different 'ping' reports from 9 people in the US who all showed how dismally slow they were.  When I did call my ISP out of desperation, it happened the tech guy ran a server site and told me addr ought to have controls on their servers to block all this virus mail, and they might even have one.  When I passed this on to addr they ignored me.  I finally canceled my account 2 months ago because of no tech support, not able to use the FTP, not able to get help, answers and being buried in mail which strangely has followed me to my personal email now, since I quit my account.  Addr takes your money, makes it impossible to use them and then keeps it when you are forced to leave.

One thing this company offers that I've never seen before: the ability to have an instantly activated accounted even though you've chosen your payment method to be by check.
This basically gives you a 60 day trial period for free.
You want to request telnet abilities and other stuff beforehand as it takes them a couple of days to respond.  their accounts usually don't come setup with the guestbook or other scripts that they say they do, but upon asking for them, they set it up quickly.  You will like your own scripts better so don't bother with theirs unless you are a beginner.
I would still use this company except I wanted a whole lot of free webmail, so I switched.

The only way I can describe my experience with this company is that it has been a nightmare.  Everything was going fine until I decided to cancel because of URL forwarding problems. Cancelling proved incredibly difficult.  I called many times, couldn't get anyone.  I emailed a cancellation notice, no response.  Finally, about a month later, I got an email acknowledging my cancellation.  But, they continued to bill my credit card! I couldn't get ahold of them to set them straight so I went to my credit card company which credited the monthly charges back to my account and sent a notice to addr.com.  They continued billing me!!! Finally I notified the credit card company again which is now issuing me a new credit card to cut off addr, and they are proceeding with a fraud investigation against addr. Hope they get nailed.

Tons of features for the money you pay. Got some minor problems with billing in the beginning when I set up my account 2 years ago. FAST, I'm going to say that again FAST response when using the on-line chat support. One of the times I did it 5AM (maybe that's why). Over the past 2 months via chat support I got my problem fixed twice for less than 10 min. - reseting my password and creating new MySQL database.

The longer I have my site at ADDR.Com the worse the service gets. In the last few months it's been down, managed badly from their side, argued with me when I told them it was their error to fix, went days without a site available for my 700 plus art students, who use my site for lessons. I can't even begin to think of putting a shopping cart on my site or listing on Ebay with the pictures hosted on my site because of the down time. The continual down time, long time in Customer Service getting back to me, the inability to get one person to stay with the problem, getting shifted from one person to another and having to repeat the problem over and over, has made me sign up with another web host. I can't transfer my site because internal links have "addr" embedded in my links which I would have to search out and remove manually. What a bother, waste of time and money. I've left husbands for less bother.

I'm divorcing myself from Addr.

worst company I have ever dealt with - Review by submitted on November 7, 2002
Customer's web site: vireoncorp.com
Length of time hosted by this company: 1 year - 3 years
Date when last hosted by this company (as of November 7, 2002): Current customer
Plan used: silver and gold
Customer service rating: 1 out of 10
Technical quality rating: 8 out of 10
Cost rating: 7 out of 10
Overall rating: 1 out of 10
There have been too many problems to list. Reaching anyone there is virtually impossible. Billing is the worst part. I spent many hours over several months trying to communicate with them. They sent many nasty automated e-mails about non-payment. Then they took down my site. I finally reached someone who figured out that they had been paid after spending about four hours redialing.

very poor support, old/troublesome servlet technology - Review by submitted on October 23, 2002

Technical quality rating: 2 out of 10
Cost rating: 5 out of 10

as long as you don't expect anything else but having static webpages displayed i guess they are alright.
now i wanted to add on more functionality by writing a servlet, seeing that addr.com supports it.
firstly, i was told i cannot get servlet support even though it is outlined in the account details. pointing that out to them suddenly i had servlet support.
next problem was making external connections from the servlet.
in numerous emails addr.com blamed my code or external MySQL server and then out of the blue an email saying, oh yes, btw, we block external connections. a question i had asked in my very first support request that was answered with 'No, we do not block anything'.
seeing that their servlet support is pretty bad anyway (no logs, no activate/deactivate of the context, no javamail api, old versions of java/tomcat and so on) i'm now moving to a different provider.

Their claims of tech and customer service are total BS -- u only get a recording that they have 'exceptionally high call volume' so e-mail in the complaint. Then an inept tech (a different one each time) responds with a half-fix. Absolutely pathetic!!!!

we used addr.com first because they were economical, but as time has passed, they are not the cheapest on the block anymore, and they were unreliable to say the least.  the straw that broke the camel was we were down for days, could not get a human on their phone line, that we paid for to hold for 30 minutes, and got no response from our e-mails using our aol account, since the addr.com was down.

we finally got an answer after it appeared to be resolved, a vague answer about switching servers, but as a programmer i knew at best, they were skirting the truth

we finally switched to our dsl provider, the reason we hadn't was the hassle, but we've had no problems since then.
Addr.com representative's Addr.com Rep response:

No more hassles at Addr. Our servers are now placed in a better network and the uptime is rock solid.

Like many others reported, the hosting is good as long as there are no issues of any kind.

Their customer service is very poor - and you don't always get a response from them.

I'm still struggling to resolve my billing issues with them - several months after cancelling my service!

Please keep away from this provider.

I used Addr for about 4 months. During that time, their MYSQL server was down almost daily. Email server went down on a regular basis. Call for support, no answer. Hold forever, only to be kicked out of the system dialing a long distance number. Email for support, receive an email a few days later that has nothing to do with the problem. Resend the email with more specifics, wait several days, maybe get an apology with some excuse of what was wrong. Email Billing for a credit for downtime, forget it. Best of all, cancel your service, and the company will continue to debit your credit card and then will ignore emails.

Beware: You get what you pay for. I was forced to move because their MySQL server would go down almost daily, and often not come up for many hours. This was especially disturbing because I depend on DB-back sites, and when I'd call there'd almost never be anyone to talk to, just an endless phone loop that said they were experiencing an "unusual amount" of calls. (Funny, this applied to tech AND sales AND billing departments.) I even tried to get through with an emergency fax once when the server was down, and they didn't get back to me for days! That was just too scary, and I decided to move right away.) If you need reliable DB connections, this host is definitely the wrong choice...One more thing--never, ever, ever let them register your domain. It will be very difficult to move if you ever need to.

MySQL Server consistently reported errors or was frequently down altogether.  HAd the account for 2 months and during that time had 10 days of down time.  All do to MySQL errors.  Phone Support forwarded you to email and email just took forever to get a response if any ever came.  Stay Away.

The site itself stays up almost 100% of the time, though I do have occasional e-mail problems. But I was double-billed at the end of June, and OH BOY! On hold for hours, then told "voice mailbox is full," hung up on me. On hold for hours, finally got through, told refund will be sent in two to three weeks. Nope! On hold for hours, "voice mailbox is full," hung up on me. On hold for hours, told "Oops! We'll send a refund today!" Still haven't seen it! Called BBB, two weeks later, they tell me ADDR.COM is unresponsive to them as well.

I have used both the Basic and Gold hosting plan with this company over a period of 7 months.  They are unable to keep the multi-domain functionality of their servers working properly.  My site is routinely unavailable and the support team that is definitely not 24/7 (more 5/5) does not answer phone calls.  Email support requires a day to get a response and usually the first response has nothing to do with my problem.

I'm on hold right now with their customer service department -- have been for TWO HOURS now.  Each time I called earlier, a message told me to email them for a responce, which I never got.  I'm calling because their billing department is attrocious.  They've emailed us FOUR times for new credit card information, which I've given them each time for a VALID AND BALANCE FREE card.  Each time I was able to contact them (on hold many times for at least over half an hour), they told me I would no longer be bothered for billing info.  Now they've emailed me AGAIN for the info, saying our website will disappear if we don't pay. I'm now seeking a new provider.

On top of all this, their "search engine submitter" simply doesn't work -- I had to add us myself.  Their control panel is painfully slow.  It goes on and on.

And yes, I'm still on hold right now.

Once you are set-up they don't have a problem ( except for their billing which happens whenever they feel like sometimes twice a month, sometimes not...very inconsistent)

Don't use this service if you are looking for timely customer support...takes forever if at all! I sat on the phone for 20 minutes ( not a toll free number )waiting to ask them about my billing issue - 3 charges in one month and they said I still owed ??? I didn't receive a response after 3 emails and 3 weeks later without an answer.  They never answered the phone!
The site runs well, but I need to know I can contact a company where there are people.
(Maybe they will contact me now with this "RAVE" review) ;)

Redundancy won't help this rating...but if you know your stuff, and don't require host support, you get allot for the money here. yes, some webmail problems, and an occasional "glitch" will NORMALLY not last long enough to grab a loaded gun over. I would not recommend addr.com to a starter, but if you know your stuff.....

I personally have had no problems with my website on Addr. Granted, I am not running an e-commerce site, so I don't need service.

As far as quality, for the price, the servers are fast, the 'control panel' is adequate. Overall, a bargain for the money...

Great host if you don't need service - Review by Mike Nasser submitted on July 6, 2002

Customer service rating: 2 out of 10
Technical quality rating: 9 out of 10

Overall rating: 7 out of 10
I've been hosting 2 sites with addr for a couple of years now. When the sites are up, they're great.  My download speeds reach up to 168KBS via my cable connections.  Also they offer a lot of features including cgi, ftp, telnet (on demand), auto responders, detailed site stats, lots of megs (I go over my limit and they never complain), unlimited forwarding, catch all email, customized 404 error page, FrontPage support, etc.  The price is low $9.99 per month (their $7 plan won't work for most people as it does not allow you a www.yourname.com).  So why don't I give them a 10? As I said they're great as long as you don't need service.  When my sites go down, which happened a few times in the past year, the only thing I could do is pray it will be fixed soon! I tried calling them several time, and each time I'm put on hold for almost 30 minutes (not an 800 # so I'm payin the for the call), and so far about 90 I hang up without being able to talk to anyone.  I also tried getting their support by email, and I always get a "canned" response that someone copies and pastes in a reply message.  The response is always polite but NEVER useful.  For example, last week I noticed we were LOSING EMAIL messages.  This is a BIG PROBLEM if you are a business as you could miss an order or piss off a customer.  ADDR never mentioned the problem, so I sent them a support request by email.  2 days later I get an answer "Yes we were having issues with one of our email server and they're fixed and everything is fine now".  What does that mean exactly! What "issues" and what happened to all that email that I never received! How do I get it back? Also, if my customers didn't tell me that they sent me email that I never received, I would have never known about these "issues".  How come no public announcement or apologies to customers regarding these "issues"? BTW I tried emailing ADDR back with these questions, and their "auto routing" email server refused to accept my email!!!
So my advice is this: If you want lots of feature, low price, and great download speed but don't need service and can live with occasional lost emails and occasional down-time, then addr is for you.  However, if you're like me own a business and can't afford "issues" like this, then you better look for something else.  This is what I'm doing by the way, and webhostingratings.com is helping me do it :)

No tech problems, but no customer service either - Review by submitted on July 3, 2002
Customer's web site: scramcat.com
Length of time hosted by this company: 1 year - 3 years
Date when last hosted by this company (as of July 3, 2002): 1 year - 3 years ago

Technical quality rating: 8 out of 10

Overall rating: 6 out of 10
Based on other review sites, my experiences with ADDR.com are typical: They were great 2 years ago but since relocating their business offices to Colorado, they have virtually no customer service. Fortunately I have never had any technical problems at all. But these days customer service simply doesn't exist. Their phone system is always "experiencing unusually high call volume" and will either hang up, or forward to a full voicemail box that won't record a message. Emails to Tech Support or Billing take 2 to 3 weeks for a reply, even to simple questions like "what is my annual biling date?" I cancelled a couple of smaller sites I had them host because companies won't change until they feel it in the bank account. But ADDR still hosts two sites for me, and I'd like to find a more responsive inexpenive host, but judging from the reviews pretty much every discount host stinks these days.
