Support tickets don't get answered for weeks, non-existent customer service, techs who can't speak proper English, constant downtimes, e-mail delivery problems. You name it! Interland's got it! You must be completely out of your mind to sign up with this host!

Hello... Anyone home? They are great at taking tickets but they never respond or even address the problem.  We have a dedicated server that was stable for two years with a company that Interland purchased.  Interland moved the machine to Atlanta with no notice and since the sites on the server do not respond during peak times.  It's not the downtime as much as the time wasted with the trouble ticket process with no response from Interland- At the very least, they could tell me to jump in a lake.

Since being with Interland less than a month, they have lost our billing information, and then frozen accounts because they didn't have that billing information.  When I called to say that I could not hit one of our accounts, I was told ONCE that the DNS servers were wrong, ONCE that the server was being rebuilt, ONCE that there was no problem, and FINALLY that there was a billing problem.  They then said that they were aware of the billing problems and had a ticket to turn the account back on, BUT THAT THE ADMINS MUST HAVE BEEN TOO BUSY TO GET TO IT YET! DO NOT HOST WITH THEM!!

We were orginally with HostPro and had no complaints. When Interland merged they grandfathered all Host Pro accounts. Now we can not add new software or do any updates to our server. We then inquired about moving to one of their packages but they would not offer what we currently had and told us we would just have to fit into one of their current plans. Makes you feel like a square peg being shoved into a round hole. We have not changed plans and are currently looking for new provider who will be more accommadating.
As for customer service if you use the ticket system you may hear back in 3 - 4 days. If you sit on hold for an hour and then beg and plead with a customer service representative(sometimes more than one call) you can get the problem fixed. Most frustrating part is that our service resides in Los Angeles and the customer service reps have no access to it.

Absolute disaster - Review by submitted on March 20, 2003
Customer's web site: www.iitours.com
Length of time hosted by this company: 1 month - 3 months
Date when last hosted by this company (as of March 20, 2003): 3 months - 1 year ago
Plan used: The basic Business plan (about $22 a month)

Technical quality rating: 1 out of 10

The big culprit of our domain name transfer disaster was Interland.
Basically, the problem emerged from Interland buying out the web-hosting
company "ICOM". ICOM originally had rights to host our website with our
domain name. Unfortunately, with ICOM being bought out by Interland, we were left with no one to speak to from ICOM that would have the authorization to hand over the domain name hosting rights to Interland (after all, Network
Solutions recognized ICOM and Interland as two separate legal companies).

On numerous occasions I would call the account managers and customer service people at Interland about our problems with trying to get a company that was literally no longer an operating business to transfer our domain rights of
"iitours.com" to the legal entity of Interland. Many of my voice mails were not returned. Though Interland bought out and was supposed to take over the
operations of ICOM, not one person I spoke with new what to do about
transferring the domain rights from ICOM to Interland nor followed through with the solutions they said they had to our problems. They were very uncooperative with our issues so we decided to cancel their service and look for a more helpful web-hosting company. Our repeated requests to cancel the web-hosting service was essentially denied. After several requests to cancel the service they continued charging us and were left with no IP address to work with to begin construction of our website. Our domain name was left blank for several weeks because of Interland's lack of cooperation and
concern which prevented us from developing our business marketing needs. I eventually had to come up with my own solution to solve this issue since Interland was not helpful at all.

I contacted Web Wizards, a smaller web-hosting company based in San Diego which I felt would be more helpful in solving our issue. I heard several good things about Web Wizards from other customers, so I decided to give them a try. On the very same day Web Wizards put in a request to transfer our domain name rights from Interland's server to Web Wizards' server. For some reason, Interland was able to quickly coordinate the transfer of the domain rights to the Web Wizards' server. However, our problems did not stop there. Interland continually charged monthly web-hosting fees to my client's credit card, even
knowing that my client and I wrote a request in writing to stop all services and fees.

I started with Hostpro and they had really good service, then Interland bought them out.  The service isn't as good as it was, but it's not bad.  I usually get a pretty prompt response to incidents, although sometimes you have to go through 2 or 3 people to get to someone who knows what's going on.

When my previous company got bought by Interland, I didn't jump ship. Prices got a little better, and they changed me from month to month.
However, there were lots of little obnoxiosities. Got to be regular-like that on Saturday morning I'd get a "New Application Failed" message instead of my site for at least twenty minutes.  Emails to tech support invariably got "well, it works for us!" THe WebTrends Stats -- can't do any filtering, and the "automatic reporting" featuer doesn't seem to work. There were other similar episodes but not enough to make it worth jumping ship... a fair amount of "server overload" error messages, FTP troubles whenever I did any bigger changes to assorted pages.
Then there was that Saturday of The WOrm.  My site down for a while -- their site much longer. When it came back -- an odd pop-up window talking about how *some sites* had trouble and these other people had problems, gosh golly, and those other people were doing their best (as if they'd not had any problems, ever).  It stank a whole lot like airlines and Enron executives and Boston clergy.
I started shopping. For less than half INterland's price, I could get all I need at Crystaltech-- and by the way, the features actually work, and there are lots of little features Interland doesn't have, for folks like me who actually like to work on their websites.
When I tried to cancel at Interland, though, I got "internal server errors." I did a tech support ticket for it, then (as the error page indicated) went back and it "worked." Or, at least well enough so taht I got emailed that my "tech support" problems had been "escalated" to a special group.
That was four days ago.  Looks like I"m going to have to notify my credit card, send them a certified letter, and the whole nine yards to get free...

The worst hosting ever - Review by submitted on February 5, 2003

I was a customer of Icom and had little trouble with that host, but the problems began as soon as Icom was bought up by Interand. My site went down for over a week with no explanation and no response to repeated emails (I was told I was not entitled to tech support by phone as an Icom customer). They NEVER responded to my initial emails, the site just was up one day. The one time I did get an answer to a request for tech support it took 4 days, even though they promise 24 hour turn around. They also reduced the amount of server space I was allowed and would never tell me what my new plan was, even after many, many email requests for information. Every time I would try to upload a new file, I got an error message that I had exceeded my server space (even if I deleted files to make space)... progressively reducing the amount of space I have to almost nothing and preventing me from uploading any new pages or graphics to my site. I can only replace existing pages and graphics with the same size or smaller. What a nightmare company! I'm finally switching today (To ICDSoft, by the way, based on the ratings on this web site).

Where to start with these guys! They have the worst technical support I have ever seen. They are totally understaffed and the people they have are poorly trained. Although we paid for daily backups to be made they never did it, but we only found that out after we wanted to restore some data from the tapes. All they said was, sorry.

They also kept shutting off ports that we needed to process credit cards. Their excuse was that they were understaffed and did not know whose servers were whose.

In addition to their awfull service, they are liars. We told them what our business model was before we signed up with them and they kicked us off AND kept a month that we had prepaid.

I was not aware of everyone else's problems with Interland until recently... but our problems had been cropping up since March of 2002, when our site was hacked and a spammer relayed their smut through our POP. Interland denied, denied, denied. 2 weeks later, it happened again. Now none of our Email seems to work reliably, including some domains that completely filter our domain! "registeredsite.com" handles Interland's mail... useless. The more I think about it, the lousier the Email service has been! Compared with what we are paying these guys, we are getting ripped off!

On the lighter side, our website has never shown any down time that I am aware of. The WebTrends report is pretty cool; the online support is typically useful. It's just the Email, and the phone techs inability to admit fault that gives this company a bad name... for us.

We do business with a dozen ISPs as a small web developer and Interland from the very beginning has been the very worst... by far.  First, something has gone wrong with our machine every month.  Processes mysteriously stop... logging stops... no one knows why.  The sales rep lied to our client several times then signed them up for a big plan they'd never use... pre-paid of course.

They moved our site from one machine to another without notice... completely failing to notice most of the site was being built form a mySQL database... which of course was not moved.  They nuked the original machine then had to recreate the data from their SINGLE backup... yup that's correct... one single backup that is 0-7 days old.  After logging stopped, they deleted the current logs before we grabbed them... when we asked for them to pull them from backups they said there were none.

I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

I would encourage everyone to stay away… and if you have sites there move them ASAP.  You can find much better, much cheaper hosting almost anywhere else.  Even if you haven’t had a problem yet it certainly isn’t worth the headache.

I was a happy VSERVERS customer and then a fairly happy Hostpro customer.  However, I am currently on hold with Interland "top level support" and have been for an hour.

They are "too busy" to talk to me.

I have opened numerous "tickets".  (They are closed, literally, in the middle of the night without being read).

No matter how much you plead, you will NOT be allowed to talk to a sysadmin.

I thought that it was just me, but every time I call anybody at Interland, I too am blamed for their server/email/ftp not working.

(When one of my servers goes down I take the blame and fix it.  Right now! I think that Interland should do the same.)

I think that Interland has missed the whole point of being a host. I only want to pay the bill.  In return for the money, I want them to make sure that it is working properly.

I think that it is time for me to set up a mail server because I have had enough.

I started off with off with HostAmerica who were evenutally bought out by Interland. I'm in the process of moving all 6 of my domains to another hosting service for several reasons:
1. Lack of willingness to support anything not covered in their FAQs
2. Slow to respond
3. Out of date software (PHP, MySQL)
4. Cost - you don't get what you pay for.
5. 98% of customer support simply do not care about you as a customer
6. Lack of a decent site control panel

New site hosted, with immediate prolonged outages--but Interland claimed (through infinite bureaucracy) they never happened.  Finally in despair I rehosted and gave up on getting a refund.  A year later, Interland billed me for a second year renewal (they hadn't had a hit in eleven months), and refused to cancel the second-year bill because I hadn't notified them in advance of non-renewal! After blistering threats, they relented and cancelled the second-year bill.  Then an Interland sales manager phoned to say that I was one of their most-valued customers, and would I like to extend my (now twice-cancelled!) hosting plan? Clueless doesn't begin to describe these folks.

Another formerly-happy Hostpro customer, once Interland took over their web division it's been a total disaster. (Hostpro actually bought Interland, if only they'd let Hostpro carry on the hosting)

As a small-time reseller with a dozen or so accounts, I administer most of them and have had nothing but bad experiences with Interland's tech support. They don't fix problems, they don't respond half the time, and they just don't seem to care. Sometimes they close tickets without even reading them (which is obvious from their non-answers.) My last support response even spelled my name wrong in the salutation! Not that that's a big deal, but ummm can we say Professionalism? sheesh.. call me "customer" or "hey you" or nothing at all, but make it LOOK like you give a damn at least.

Their tech support site is a sloooowww nightmare to negotiate and their phone lines aren't much better. It's a good thing I administer all my client sites because all of my personal info and client domain list is right there for all to see when logging in to the support maze.

My red-haired stepchild Hostpro "legacy" accounts still have a better admin area than Interland sites, so I've kept most on there, even though Interland spams me with endless UPGRADE pleas. I have one client - the only one who looks at their own stats etc. - who has one old Hostpro domain and two Interland domains that were activated post-merger. Admin areas are like night & day next to each other.. try to explain that to a paying customer :(

I'm actively seeking a new provider now, and will NEVER go back to Interland once I find one I can rely on to provide the service I pay for.

We were totally unable to receive email from pacbell.net.  After repeated calls in which they blamed pacbell, and that any email from blocked servers is put in a filtered mail folder, they admitted that they were blocking pacbell, but would fix it.  Now, supposedly fixed, we still can't receive email from pacbell.net, but they won't look at it until we get a "fresh" bounce message (3 more days of waiting).  Very frustrating.

At this site looking for alternatives now.

Want to talk to to an engineer or even a sysadmin? Forget it. You can not get through. DO NOT use Interland. My server has been down for 24 hours there. I don't blame them for occasional outages. I blame them for not trying. Not working to fix it. No one there is accountable. They won't put a sysadmin on the phone, just sales monkeys. Use a smaller ISP, where the admins actually pick up the phone. Like Kattare.com. (I host my PERSONAL site there, and am in the process of moving all my clients to Kattare... they are awesome.)

I was orginally with icom and then interland acquired them.  Icom wasn't the greatest by any stretch, but interland takes the cake.  I have repeatly not been able to send mail, and when i call them they tell me "Sorry I don't have access to your records" and give me the run around.  They said I was not entitled to phone support, which is fine, but I believe I should at least be able to have a working email account.

You can't really blame them for being one of the ones still standing.  I was formerly hosting a few sites with HostPro in Los Angeles.  When they got bought out by Interland, I was allowed to keep the sites on the HostPro equipment, which is nice, because everything is just fine there.  On my own volition, I moved one of my hosted sites over to the True Basic shared Linux product as a trial run.  As these sorts of things are prone to be, it was a major pain in the a**.  I can't really blame Interland entirely.  Once I got my main issue escalated past the typical zit faced peons on tier 1, tech support was reasonable.  They and I were never able to trace the lingering dns issue (name not resolving to ip address from west coast only) any more specifically than that it was most likely an internet router or server that was pointing wrong.  After about a week or two of constant dialog with them, spotty or non existant http access, and flakey domain email delivery, it sort of worked itself out.  Needless to say, I became gun shy about switching my other domains.  I also do not like the control panel layout and ease of use as much as the simpler Host Pro one (which was nothing to write home about).  I do like the web mail, although I have been looking around and other companies that I have been scoping seem to have equal functionality and slicker interfaces...

Interland bought out ATT Small business Hosting and moved our site.  Had unexplained email delivery problems with no solutions from Interland. Sales rep called and talked us into "trying" their upgrade and ecommerce offering.  He had the site moved, billed us for the upgrade at the wrong amount, and after 10 days when we decided not to go ahead with the upgrade and he told us to "call billing and work it out".  In the process of moving- anywhere!

Several years ago we started our site up at Interland…the readers digest version goes like this:

1.Our CGI scripts would stop running for no reason…told us it was our fault

2. Could not access our site for 3 days…told us it was our problem, as they could connect.

3. Went to a trade show…set up our booth the night before, came in the next morning turned on PC to find a welcome to Interland screen where our site was the night before. Told us it was our fault because we asked to be moved to a new server since the other one sucked…they did not tell anyone the switch was being made.

4. Billed many times twice for the same account.

5. Tech support really nonexistent

6. NO Email ever returned with an answer.

7. Had to have an attorney send a letter to get our money back from them.

If you even think about hosting at Interland you should be sent out of the country for a minimum of 3 years.

Here is the funniest one…went to several BBS and posted my story and I kept seeing a post from the same guy stating how great their service was etc…later to be found it was actually and employee posting on company time attempting to do damage control.

The site was down more than it was up.  The customer service reps were UNTRAINED folks reading off of cue cards.  They also will NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY AT ALL.  I had to threaten a LAWSUIT to get 1/2 back and the lady told me it was worth it just not to have to talk to me anymore.  How would you like that told to you.  Another time they had a CORE Internet router in their town that was dropping signal to their sites.  THEY WOULD NOT call the company IN their town to fix the problem, because it was being seen by the other area routers??

They will try to screw you.  Good hosting service.  Very bad customer service with different departments I have dealt with.  The poor customer service and bad internal communications far outway the benefit of the service itself.  I have chosen to go with modwest.com from the referal of a friend and thus far I have been very happy with the service and support I have received.

I am afraid to go into a big long drawn out story about how these idiots have screwed me over time and time again for fear that it is just going to make me mad again.

Simply put I was hosted on Vservers.com until they got bought by HostPro.  Then HostPro got bought by Interland.  That is when my life with them became a living hell.  I have never witnessed such incomptetance and disregard for customer satisfaction IN MY LIFE.

Basically they discontinued my "VServer Ultra" plan and told me to go find a new server.  I did at the cost of $3250.00 (I had over 100 domains with them.)

THEN they decide NOT to discontinue the plan after I spent an arm and a leg moving.  I still have one domain with them.  An NT box that I need to move somewhere else.  It goes down AT LEAST once a month (or more often) For $55.00 a month I should get more than what I do.

I went to register the name InterlandSucks.com and they beat me to it.  (Maybe it is because they know they suck!!)

Maybe I have been lucky, but they are a whole lot better than these "so called" hosting companies.  Some of these hosting companies are ran by one or two people and are claiming to have a technical staff. Yeah right! The only thing I hate about Interland is that they are a little pricey for what you get software wise, like PHP, mySQL or whatever.

We have hosted several of our sites with interland in the past.  The sites were down all the time.  The contents of several sites were lost in server crashes.  One day DNS on their end would be working fine.  Then the next day out domain names would be pointing at other websites that we don't even host.  This is the absolute worst company to offer hosting.  After speaking with several Atlantans, I have found that this is consistent behavior for interland.  They have the horrible customer service also.  Much time has been wasted dealing with them.  The staff is highly inadequate! Be warned!!!

I was an orignal customer of Vservers, which eventually after all the mergers became Interland.  Besides being lied to by the billing department, I never had any of my technical questions anwsered or responded to.  Customer service is poor, and I would highly recommend against them based on service and cost.

I had such a bad time with this host.  I spent more time on hold trying to get to tech support than I did developing my site.

Two years after I dropped them, they charged about $1,400.00 for a plan that I had canceled.  It took weeks to get it reversed.

I hosted with interland for 2 years and when my site was down for two weeks they could care less. (Jan 2001) I was given a different reason why it was down every time I called. For the price they charge there should be no down time. I get better service from a company that charges 1/5 their price.

I have been with Interland for almost 2 years.  I started with their shared hosting basic plan, moved up to a better shared hosting plan and then to a dedicated hosting plan.  I am back to their basic shared hosting plan and one foot is already out of the door.  Basically to sum it up in one word INCOMPETANCE! The people they hire make careless mistakes.  Below are were my issues.  I too have no finge nails anymore...

1) My site would go down regualary around noon time (an abuser on the shared server was spamming).  It took over a month to get them to find the person and I finally left that shared server to a dedicated server because they could not get this person off the server.  Why???

2) The dedicated server partitioning is terrible.  Not only did they set up my dedicated server that the whole world had access to it (and they didn't tell me this) but they limited my OS drive to barely enough to cover the operating system AND THEY SET THE LOGGING OF FILES TO THE OS DRIVE.  After a week my computer began to lose resources and it died.  This is just plain STUPID.

3) Someone in INTERLAND decided to remove my permissions to the SMTP service (for no reason at all).  I could not send out auto emails using their service.  AAAAGH!!!

4) Their billing department over charged me.  They claimed to give me a $1000 rebate for signing up to their dedicated servers.  They never did.

5) They have gotten a little better on answering their phones, however, try calling them Sunday morning.  You'll wait at least 1/2 hour before talking to a real person.

6) They turned off FTP on me.  I couldn't load new pages.  They claimed there server was cacheing the old pages.  Not so,

There have been many other issues, but I hope this helps.

I signed a two year contract with them, got a email one day stating that they were closing all co-located customers accounts and that I could (of course) move to a plan that was over four times the price per month. They then continued to bill my credit card monthly for three months past when they closed my account. My credit card company is still trying to get money back that they've charged me for. If you have a problem with them make sure you complain to the BBB.org website. Do a search on the internet to read what others say about them...  If your fighting with them about a contract you'd like to break be sure to tell them the contract has a "no consequential damages" clause so your not liable for any services you didn't get.  For instance you sign up for a one year agreement, find there services suck (and you will) you call and cancel, pay only the time you've used.  If they don't believe you tell them to speak with their in-house counsel (Mr. Johnatan Wilson)...  Hope this helps someone...

I was stupid enough to use Interland for the bulk of my hosting, and at one point hosted 35 sites with them for various clients.

Interland was easily the worst business decision I have ever made.

I have now moved all but 2 accounts away from them to other hosts after years of agony and broken promises.

If you don't mind spending 1-2 hours perday getting servers rebooted and speaking with idiotic tech support, go ahead and use them...

If you want a real host... heck... choose anyone else! Interland f#$%*ng sucks. Period!

We have been moved up the cost/plan ladder 3 times due to claims that we were overloading shared emvironments.  2 times we were shut down hard without warning.  The last move, they did an analysis and put us in an "ideal" plan "$600 / mo", that lasted one month and they are going to shut us down again unless we go with a $1,500/mo plan. Its' damn extorsion if you ask me.

Don't give them a credit card number. If you do you will billed every cycle without any notice. Then you can never get anyone to respond, no E-mail, no phone, nothing. Is there really a Interland? I had to have my CC company to do a charge back.
